In that regard, the iPhone would be the best, due to it being the simplest and most fun current phone on the market, followed by BlackBerry, then Palm.

You most likely wan’t a smartphone that is easy to use without a major learning curve, and is a system that is fun to use and not very annoying. Definitely find some live demo units (or find someone whose device you can borrow to check out). Don't rely on your "30-day trial period" to do all of your testing.
Windows Mobile definitely has both pros and cons. Just as with any smartphone, it's like buying a car--find the model that's most comfortable for you to "drive"... which may or may not be the same as for someone else.

Heather,

Definitely find some live demo units (or find someone whose device you can borrow to check out). I'm not up on these soft keyboard apps. I will definitely check out what they can do, especially if it would open my options up a bit.
My current quest is to examine the difference in the operating systems. This is the 1st time I've looked into a smart phone, and I've heard quite a few negatives about Windows Mobile.
I want to thank everyone for their help. I have a lot more options to think about!!!

Hi Dan,

I’m not up on these soft keyboard apps. If you're interested in the Touch, oops, excuse me, the 6900 and think a keyboard would be nice, you might want to look into some of the "soft" keyboard apps available. (caveat: I have no idea what type of "keyboard" already comes with the Touch)
Two that seem to be popular are the Cootek TouchPal (http://www.cootek.com/) and the PocketCM Keyboard (http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard.php).

I have to say that I have been pretty happy with the customer service I have received from Verizon. The Samsung Glyde that Marko mentioned looks like a very cool phone. I'll have to wait and see what develops over the next couple of months.
Q - I haven't heard about LTE, but I will look into it.

Thanks for all the info!!!

I have to say that I have been pretty happy with the customer service I have received from Verizon. It'll take them a few years, though it looks like they're gradually switching over. How this will interact with their new "open handset" option isn't yet clear.
And Heather, it also depends on what area you're in. If AT&T has good coverage there, it may make sense to look at GSM phones. (I'm on AT&T and am torn between an unlocked Centro, preferably in the blue that's been seen online and recently came out in Mexico, and the Samsung i800 that's supposed to launch this summer, and will be the first phone running ALP from ACCESS, which you may have read a bit about here too. Wish I had some scoop on that phone--right now it's still "wait and see"...).

Verizon has committed to a GSM-based 4G technology called LTE. I had AT&T because I like their phone options and the fact that I could buy unlocked phones, but I switched back to Verizon because to me it seemed like AT&T would drag their feet on releasing new technologies like mobile tv and 3G. Look at me I'm rambling on and the point of me leaving a comment was to help Heather out!! Well I have read on various sites about the LG VX9700 which is basically Verizon's version of the Prada phone and the Samsung Glyde which is the CDMA version of the SGH-F700 and the Samsung phone has a sliding keyboard. The word is that those phones are supposed to be released in the next month or two so you may want to hold on for a little while more Heather

CDMA and Verizon aren’t that bad!!! I have been checking out the HTC touch, which is the Verizon 6900. I just can't decide if I want a keyboard or not. The hand writing recognition software can be a bit annoying, but other than that, it looks like a good phone. I didn't realize there was such a huge difference in the number of GSM vs. CDMA users. It makes me wonder why Verizon doesn't switch, if that's at all possible?
I am tempted to switch to AT&T. The main problem there is all my friends and family are Verizon, so I can get away with having a very low phone plan since all my calls are 'in' network. The geek in my wants to switch. :) The Tilt looks like a great phone!!!
I've heard rumors about the Palm 800, so maybe I'll wait. It seems like there is another new and improved phone right around the corner.

Thanks for the answer!!!
