Our Readers and Their Gadgets – Your Vote Needed!

Posted on 02 April 2008 by

[Update: This contest is now closed, and Katie is the winner! Congrats to Katie, and to uzziah0 (the random commenter) and a big THANK YOU to all who entered!]

We recently completed our Contest Interruptus, and some of the submitted photos were so fabulous that they must be shared in their own post…but as usual, there is a twist. Vote for your top favorite in the comments section, and we’ll announce a winner based on popular vote Friday, April 11th at 5:30pm CST. The winner will receive a Naneu Pro Sierra Laptop & Camera Bag. I’ll also have a random prize for a random commenter – so get your vote in! ;-)

Here is Bazzawill’s EeePC; I love the Gear Diary theme going on in the background!

bazzawill.jpg

Bazzawill says, “my eeepc running eeexubuntu & compiz effects using the web camera so that you can see me.”

What is this? dbng showing off his iPod 5G 30GB. Look at that happy smile! :-D

dbng.jpg

He says, “No question, my favorite gadget is my trusty iPod 5G 30GB – it keeps me sane. It’s also a bit of a money pit. I couldn’t stand the packed in headphones so I upgraded. Then I decided that I needed an escape from the guy in my carpool who likes to sing along with the radio so I bought in ear monitors. Also great for the long haul flights. Then I needed a pair of good headphones for the house but the iPod needs a little help driving 250 Ohm so I bought an amp. I’ve sunk more than 2X the original price of the iPod on the headphones.”

Aczon had a cute picture of his boy with an iPhone…I just want to pinch those widdle cheeks. ;-)

aczon2.jpg

Aczon says, “My favorite gadget is Logitech Harmony Universal Remote. At the end of the day, I just want to come home, fire up the TV, and the last thing I don’t want to do is hunt for every remote for all of my devices. The Harmony eliminate this problem, and everything just works. It’s almost as flawless as my Apple iPhone. Did I just say iPhone. Pfft.”

Here’s Jaxim, who made a custom Gear Diary Zune wallpaper for the Zune 80 he won here on Gear Diary. You’ve got to appreciate a man who will stand in front of an Apple store with his Zune!

jaxim1.jpg

He says, “My favorite gadget so happens to be the Zune 80 that I won from GearDiary in a previous contest. I use it nearly everyday. Before owning the Zune, I never listened to a podcast, but now I listen 5-6 podcasts every week during work. I even watch videos on the Zune which I either record using my Vista Media Center or I had converted from a DVD. I often watch movies or TV shows on the Zune as I walk to work thru Times Square, keeping one eye out from walking into unexpecting tourists that are in my path.”

And here is a close-up of his wallpaper…niiiice!

jaxim2.jpg

Brandon (aka netsyd) is posing with his iphone; his dog looks too pooped to party. ;-)

brandon.jpg

Brandon says, “My favorite gadget right now … is undoubtedly my iPhone. It’s my everything device since it does the web, email, phone, weather, and music as well or better than any other device around. Oh, and it just works. That and it makes me sexy… ok not really, But I can dream darn it!”

This is datahoss’ entry; awww geek love!

datahoss.jpg

He’s showing his “favorite gadget displaying a sneak attack on my favorite gal, which was taken with the OLPC’s built-in camera right after the device’s first boot.”

Yes! fromamerica gets extra geek points for using Gear Diary in your photos! Here is his Fujitsu 4220.

fromamerica.jpg

He says, “my favorite gadget right now is my Fujitsu 4220, on loan from Fujitsu. First tablet I have had. The combination of Windows 2007 with OneNote 2007 and the tablet pen based technology has been a great boon to me in my work. I have gone completely paperless, and ON is my notebook for eveything from notes, to files, to memos, to internet pages. I use it for my real work (consulting), my play work (photography), and my spare time stuff.”

desz caught his Samsung in a private moment…not nice! ;-)

desz.jpg

He says, “My favorite gadget is my Samsung umpc. Its my favorite because of the places it can go. You just have to see my photo to understand what I mean.”

We see! ;-)

gasuz07 shows Santa with an armful of gadgets!

gasuz07.jpg

She had a hard time picking a favorite gadget because, ” I love my AT&T Tilt, my Amazon Kindle, my ipod touch, my Zune 30, my Zune 80, my dell axim x51v…..

eee nee mee nee my nee mo…..

Amazon Kindle…..my favorite….. cause I love to read… and yes it could be prettier….but I must admit…I forget about the device and READ! I’ve read 2-3 books a week since I got it at Christmas (well a little before that ;) )…”

jjaakkis showing off his Palm Treo 680, and I must say that that is a fine placement of the Gear Diary logo. ;-)

jakk.jpg

He says, “My supplementary brain is my favourite gadget – that is my Palm Treo 680. Without this permanent appendage in my pocket, I would be missing a bit of my brain. My kids tease me about have a one year reminder on my anniversary entries – get it? And I have worn out the front left pocket on nearly every pair of jeans I own – that is where I keep my supplementary brain. The fact that it is a phone, spreadsheet, camera, music & video player, contacts list, diary and all the other things I have loaded on it, it sure is one handy device.”

jclopez goes old-skool with a T28 World Ericsson…

jclopez.jpg

He says, “i just say that since I lost my HTC TyTN, I’m using my old cell phone a T28 World Ericsson. Can you remember this phone?? Jajajaja I bought it on 1995. So…. I’m using this cell phone since the robbery that would be December the 7th,2007. Can you imagine how crazy and insane I’m getting without the possibility to synchronize my contacts, mails, notes and tasks form outlook? Uuuiiuiuiuiuiuiuiuiuiuiuuu but probably the worst thing is not have the possibility to connect to the internet on the road :S.”

Although I must say that the copyright material in the bottom right corner of “his” picture makes me wonder if it is really him. ;-)

JohnKes’ baby is making a point with the TV remote…”this is my favorite gadget Daddy!” :-)

johnkes.jpg

But John says, “My favorite gadget is my Tapwave Zodiac2. It fulfills most of my gadget needs, including syncing to Quicken.”

tabi13 looks like he is arguing with himself over who gets to use the HTC Touch.

tabi13.jpg

He says, “This is a continous shot. No post processing, and no editing. If you know the right photography tricks and if you are creative enough, you can hit yourself with your HTC Touch :)

Pretty clever!

What’s that in jojowasher’s drawer?

jojowasher.jpg

“Just a simple picture of one of my favourite new gadgets, my Drobo, taken with my favorite gadget, my iPhone. ”

Here’s Katie, the lovely Geek Goddess!

katie.jpg

Katie says that “Currently my favorite gadget is our Nintendo DS Lite. I give it to my son so he can play Mario Kart while I catch a shower — it’s the only way to keep him quiet while his sister is sleeping!”

This is Mike, working in the clouds with his R2Hv UMPC.

mike.jpg

Mike says, “As for my favorite gadget it would have to be my R2Hv. I use it as my primary PC to keep track of my finances, calendar, and of course keep up with Gear Diary and my other feeds. I also use it to maintain our fire departments web site, manage docs, and use the GPS along with Streets & Trips to make maps. Another use I have found is that tethered to my phone I can track storm systems while in the rigs. I could keep going but you get the idea :)

W.I.P says, “Ok, I’ll admit… I may be a little TOO attached to my X51v… There’s nothing illegal about that now, is there?”

wip.jpg

He says, “The gadget of my life has been my Axim X51v… it took me over a year of PPC research before I settled on my high end little companion (probably a little more time than it took governor Spitzer to settle on his little compani… er, never mind  )

I guess spending a little extra can really buy you true love!!!”

Indeed. ;-)

And last, but not least, we have mikekarr – doing the Geek version of “The Thinker”.

mikekarr.jpg

What’s on his mind? He says, “My favorite gadget is the Blackberry Curve. Through work I have the opportunity to play with many devices, like the Sprint Mogul and Touch, and my old Blackberry 8700g, but I always come back to the curve. In the next couple of days I’ll be getting a Pearl, to see if maybe I can be swayed by an even sexier form factor.”

So which is your favorite? Vote in the comments! :-D

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

Wow – these are all so good. I vote Katie though – looks like extra work went into getting all dressed up and posing.

  • http://mike.karrmedia.com mikekarr

As much as I’d like to win again, I have to vote for the pretty lady in the toga. My vote is for Katie!

  • questionfear

I vote mike karr. I majored in philosophy, so props to the intellectual geekiness.

  • jaxim

If I’m going to vote for someone other than myself, it’ll have to be a fellow Zuner, gasuz07 with her Zune-loving Santa.

I love the geek goddess! Katie is so very clever to distract her son with technology while she takes her bath. Smart momma!

  • ChessieCat

tabi13 and his HTC Touch gets my vote. That is a really fun picture. He must be pretty fast to get two of him in one picture!

  • http://www.justanothermobilemonday.com Brandon (aka netsyd)

Gotta vote for Katie here. One for having the guts to wear nothing but a sheet on the internet (and do it tastefully) and second for having a picture taken that looks straight up her nose and there’s not a boogie in sight!

    :)

I gotta vote for dbng. Let’s just say that I feel his pain.

  • dbng

    Definitely Katie.

  • ditchwitch27

i vote for desz..just because i can relate! I love having a gadget I can absolutely bring anywhere..even to the toilet..gross but it’s true!

  • Augie

    Katie’s is the best

  • http://dotsisx.blogspot.com khouryrt

Awww, all are really good, esp those baby photos :)

But I’ll have to vote for Mike. That is what true mobile productivity should be (although I doubt it that many persons will need to use their gadgets when climbing on a tree).
I think he needs the laptop and camera bag to protect his gadgets when jumping back to the ground, lol, might drop them ;)

I vote for… desz! Most creative and amusing :D

  • ramblingmom

Gotta go with the geek goddess. Any mom that can figure out a way to have a show with a toddler in the house gets my vote.
