Microsoft today clarified that it is in fact retiring Windows XP as previously announced last September. The last day to buy Windows XP for most users is June 30, 2008. Certain lower cost classes of ultra-low-cost computers (ULCPC) will be allowed to use Windows XP Home until June 30, 2010. The full Microsoft press release is here. There will be no impact on the technical support options —mainstream technical support for Windows XP will continue to be available until April 2009 and extended support will continue until April 2014. Time to add some memory to that computer and get ready for Vista.

I, for one, will keep XP warming my XPS until I buy a Mac, errr… I meant for as long as we can get updates.

I’m sticking with XP for now, my home computers are not powerfull enough to run Vista, Apple is just too expensive and at work XP is still standard.
And for what is worth, since EEE is probably the best selling PC device at the moment and there will be a bunch of other similar low cost (popular) devices, I think XP is not really going away, quite the opposite at least for 2008 it’s going to have quite a strong presence.

Are you guys saying you actually WAITED for XP to die before switching Mac? Sheesh… I switched when Macs started using PowerPC G4 chips…
