If you’ve ever used RedBox to rent a DVD overnight you’ve probably received a free rental coupon via email. In Connecticut RedBox kiosks are located in many grocery stores. New releases come out on Tuesdays. For $ 1 you get an overnight rental (return the DVD by 9 p.m. the following day). If you forget to drop it off – they charge another dollar per day until 25 days have passed – then you own the DVD. RedBox is pretty aggressive about distributing free rental codes (make sure you use the “RENT WITH A PROMO CODE” button on the lower left corner of the rental screen) so you’ll try the service. Of course the Internet makes it easy for people to share. And since RedBox suggests that users share codes with a friend – this sharing seems perfectly legitimate. These free rental codes are entered while you are checking out. You still have to swipe your credit card – but so long as you’re using a valid code there will be no charge for the rental.

IMPORTANT: If you are using a free rental code, begin your rental process by touching the smaller “Rent with a promo code” button in the lower left corner of the RedBox rental screen.

The secret is that these codes may only be used once per credit card. Naturally sites have sprung up all over the Internet which share these types of codes. RedBox also urges their customers to share some codes with friends – which brings even more people into the service.

Tip: People using multiple credit cards have reported that they use the codes multiple times (once per card).

RedBox Codes

RedBox has a page where you register for free code sent Monday via SMS. Remember that it’s one code per user (or at least that user’s credit card)…
