Walt Says 3G iPhone in Two Months

Okay, we all knew it was coming – and most likely June-ish, but it is still nice to hear Walt Mossberg give some confirmation.The moment is at roughly 6:53, as I have indicated with this screenshot.

 Yeah, the rest of the video is pretty good, too – but that was the really big news. Carry on!  ;-)

    Judie – do you know a Bill, a William? I see him. You have some unfinished business. Something that should be done. I’m not sure exactly what – but I see water. Does this ring a bell…

    His prediction amazes me in the same way I’m amazed by psychics….

    Ok, before I’m a wise ass I should watch Walt.

    But geez— the iPhone has been out of stock for (I think 2 weeks). AT&T/Cingular publicly stated this year (I think even mid-year but I have to do more searching to be sure) — and at CTIA didn’t the head AT&T dude spell out “a few months”…

    If this prediction had come last year before AT&T proclaiming that one would be here — I’d be a lot more impressed.

    If Walt could say whether the photo of the “next gen” iphone with the black backing was authentic — I’d be more impressed.

    How about predicting RAM, removable battery, whether there will be an iPhone Pro (I’m guessing yes)..

    The real story here is not the statement – it’s the betting for how long it will be front page techmeme (techmeme.com – an excellent blog compilation site) and for second place the # of sites that will be under the main story. I say the story is front page until Wed with 15 to 20 sites (contest idea? :lol: )

    Ha! It’s Saturday Wayne – and all I can think of right now is getting outside and enjoying the rest of the day. SO! No speaking in riddles, spell out what I am missing so I can slap my forehead an go “OH YEAH!!” ;-)

    And you are a wise ass, but that’s a good thing. :mrgreen:

    Anyway, I am sure Walt is under some massive NDA…otherwise, I would have hoped for all of the details you listed and more.

    As for techmeme.com…yup – front page, at least until Monday. ;-)

    I just watched the video.

    I’m just saying that I don’t think Walt’s “next 60 days” prediction is all thatrisky for him since the phone was already verified by the carrier last year (about December? ) as coming in 3 G, then Apple stores sold out about two weeks ago all over NYC (big hint that 3g must be coming) – then out of CTIA there were multiple stories that AT&T verified all their phones would be 3G within a few months (I’d have to go back and see the stories but I know the story was out way before Walt).

    …Giz is p1 with AT&T confirming iPhone 3G in months…so Walt isn’t really out on a limb….that’s all I’m saying.

    I think I see a reference to Microsoft sinking there; but I am not going to count them out. :-)

    No I’m alluding to the way psychics always seem right – because they “know” stuff about things that nobody really could … except in hindsight they are really getting us to think they know. ok maybe it’s a bad analogy…

    Here’s another Mossberg prediction I’m still waiting for – and it’s iPhone related…

    Yeah, like Wayne mentioned it, Apple stores were already getting rid of existing stocks. That was a good indication that a new iteration of the device was cooking. 3G in June. A 3G iPhone makes it more likely to be introduced to Australia, I hope. As for Canada… They would have to get passed the snow banks.

    However, Mossberg speaking out on the release of the 3G iPhone definitely adds rosemary to the roast!
