Face-Off Frenzy Give Away: Portable Air Hockey!!

Posted on 14 April 2008 by

Update: This giveaway is now closed, and the winners (randomly chosen by Clinton) are Heatwave316, Peter and Gary. Thank you for entering! :-)

Here’s a fun give-away that I think we’ll all enjoy watching unfold. Simtec, the people behind those crazy Funslides Carpet Slides Allen reviewed last year, are sponsoring a give-away on Diary. What’s up for grabs are three of their Face-Off Frenzy PowerBand Hockey games.

To enter, leave a comment about your favorite toy when growing up; it’s that simple. Keep reading for the small print…

  • Please enter only once, and describe your favorite toy when growing up
  • Contest closes at Midnight CST on Friday, April 18
  • Make sure that you have judie (at) geardiary . com in your non-spam list – if I don’t hear from you within 48 hours after the winners’ emails are sent, then the item will go to someone else.
  • Winners will be announced soon after.
  • All decisions on the winners will be made by the Gear Diary Team, and they are final. No whining, because that’s lame.
  • Prizes will be shipped directly to you from Simtec, so winners agree that it is okay for us to pass your information (name, address, phone number, email address) to them for shipping and coordination purposes.
  • This contest is open to readers in the United States and Canada only. Sorry guys and gals, but shipping big items overseas is ‘spensive!

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

I really dug my Cricket doll. She was really high tech at the time, she would talk and interact with you and tell you stories and her lips would move, though she was really heavy she was also really cool!

  • Wayne Schulz

    Wow this looks really cool.

I was such a tom boy growing up, so I have to say my favorite toy(s) were my He-Man toys. Between my brother and I, we had lots of figures, and even Castle Grayskull. :)

My favorite toy was my bike. All of them at various stages of growth.

Tough call…probably my “Space” series Legos, in the days when Legos were mostly square. I also miss my Kenner Star Wars Stormtrooper figure from 1977 or 1978, 99 cents at the local Woolworths.

Favorite? I have to pick one?

Well, I really liked Transformers – favorite Transformer was probably one of the Dinobots or Skyfire (I think that’s the name). I really liked the Space Lego sets as well, but didn’t really have a favorite. For pure hours of usage, my Bike was probably the highest – I would often ride off to friends’ houses, the mall, the park, etc.

I actually read a whole lot more than I played with toys, though.

On a related note, we had the Nerf version of Air Hockey – designed to be put on a smooth surface table. I actually brought it back from my parents’ attic after my last trip to their house. I hope to get it set up where my daughter and I can play a game or two. It wasn’t wonderful, but it worked.

I think it was GI Joes.

I also like walkie talkies too.

  • Ruth Loftus

My favorite toy growing up was my pogo stick. I also had these little turtles for the pool that I would spend hours diving to retrieve.

My favorite toy was a set of building tools that used girders and beams and panels to make skyscrapers. No idea if it’s still around, but I’m betting not. Of course, my son would love this hockey set!

  • John Kes

Legos were my favorite. Amazing what you can make with just the standard blocks and wheels.

  • Matt

my faverate toy was GiJoe when i was younger

Hey, Judie – got the game on Friday, and it has been a hit so far. Thanks.

    Great! :-D

We got ours on Friday two. We learned a couple of things.

    1. 5 year olds – use the small rink size and watch out for them leaning into the rink.

    2. Adults playing together should _not_ use the small rink size. It’s too easy to get into puck battles.

    3. Puck battles with two adults whacking the puck can result in the two halves of the puck separating and needing to be pushed back together. (Done easily, but it delays the game while we do that.)

It’s been fun so far and works really well on our carpet. We don’t have hardwood/tile/laminate floors so I can’t comment there, but I imagine it would work just as well. My wife has already started thinking up uses for taking it to her next teaching job. :-)

Glad to hear that you got it and are enjoying it. :-D

I received mine while I was alway last week. I’ve been traveling for over a week, so I haven’t even opened it yet. If I can find room around the mounds of laundry I have….I’m planning to break into it this weekend.

    Thanks!!!
