MacUpdate has partnered with 10 Mac developers to bring you the MacUpdate Parallels bundle. You can buy this bundle for $64.99 instead of $474.76, a savings of over $409 (when all 10 apps are unlocked). This bundle is time limited so buy today. Keep reading for the link and details.

MacUpdate is a “deal of the day” site for Mac specific software. Their discounts typically last for a day and are offered on many popular commercial and shareware software.

Here’s their current deal, as outlined on their site:

When you purchase bundles now, you’ll be the immediate owner of Hazel, Art Text, MenuCalendarClock, Leap, StoryMill, Typinator and DVDRemaster Pro.

Then when the Mac community spreads the word and reaches 5,000 bundles sold, Sound Studio will be unlocked into the bundle for free.

When 10,000 bundles are sold – BannerZest will be unlocked and added to the bundle.

When 15,000 units are sold, Parallels Desktop will be unlocked and added to the bundle.

People that purchase the bundle before each unlock milestone will have the unlocked products automatically added to their accounts for free.

Because of the superb success of the Mac community in the last 2 bundles, we fully expect to reach all 3 unlock milestones during the 2-week span of this event.

There’s an excellent post at the bottom of the Mupromo.com page which clarifies how this sales works:

The Total currently listed in the right hand list of apps is the total for all apps currently unlocked that is why it says $265.78 instead of the full total of $474.76 which includes the locked apps as well. That price will increase as each locked app is unlocked. This bundle is 86% off if all apps are unlocked.

.

The locked apps unlock at 5,000, 10,000 & 15,000 sales respectively per the receipt some people have received.

I am sure the whole idea of unlocking apps is that those devs want to be insured that they will get a certain amount out of the deal before they will commit to selling their product at a greatly reduced rate. I would expect the same thing if I was in their shoes.

.

MUPromo makes it absolutely clear that “(There are no time extensions)” on this bundle, like there were the last time. We have exactly two weeks to get the word out and help them sell 15,000 to open up all the locked apps. If I have it figured correctly that should end on April 29th at 11pm CT for those using a Countdown widget like this one – http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/countdowndashboardwidget.html. However they do indicate that we should watch and “see what else develops”, but that does not mean a time extension. It could mean more apps, the money may increase when bundles are unlocked, who knows. If you all recall the last bundle, the price only rose when they extended the original time, which is not happening this time according to MUPromo.

.

MUPromo says these “licenses are FULL LICENSES with normal upgrades paths”. Which means you should get the same service as if you bought the app from the dev at full price. Check each Devs website and license/upgrade structure to find out what is normal for each.

.

You get a DEMO license when you haven’t purchase the software yet. That is normal when downloading software before you buy. In this case the locked software will still only be demo (trial) versions until they are unlocked if you bought the bundle. That also goes for the unlocked apps. Hazel says it is a Demo, but once you buy the bundle you will get a license to run the full version. So don’t get hung up on the Demo or Shareware license listing. Once purchased and unlocked they are the full license of the app.

.

Parallels is the Regular Edition! The Premium edition (which I am sure Parallels would allow you to upgrade to) includes three third party apps that you may not really need. Parallels version 4.x will be coming out later this year. The normal license for Parallels seems to indicate that it gives you one year of upgrades which should include 4.x. If this does follow the normal upgrade path then you are covered for the next release. If 4.x is not covered, the upgrade will be $49.99. I am trying to clarify this with Parallels.

.

Typinator does include version 3 and 2 years of upgrades.

.

BannerZest is the Standard version as they are quoting the $49 standard price and not the $129 Pro price. It will include the full 1.0.2 release.

.

Now, let’s spread the word so the locked apps will get opened as I have never seen a bundle yet that has not unlocked all the apps. I am looking at buying three myself as I have three Macs and was in the process of getting a quote for 3 Parallels licenses. My quote came back higher than I could buy three copies here (if unlocked), plus I get some other great software thrown in as well. Awesome deal. I will be testing VMWare in the meantime based on some comments here, but I have not had any problems testing Parallels with a Windows hard disk I pulled out of my crashed AMD PC. It worked great as a boot camp attached hard disk.

Now… exactly how many of these programs have totally free open source alternatives which provide better functionality and also are available on mac?

I think I’m going to go for this — I don’t need Parallels so I’ll gift it to one reader who needs a copy of Parallels (that is assuming they unlock to that level — I think there need to be 15,000 copies of this deal sold for Parallels to be included).

I’d like Parallels, but honestly, I did the MacHeist Bundle, and I’m not sure I want to jump in again for a bunch of apps that I probably won’t use to get one that I will.

Ah, but considering that Parallels is $70ish…it might be a good deal if you could “gift” the programs to another user who might use them? I’m assuming that’s an option? :-)

I am thinking that you can register the software in another name. I have had such good luck with some of the smaller Mac apps that I don’t really hesitation to spend money on these bundles.
