Unleashing Your Inner Artist, the Fendi Way

Posted on 17 April 2008 by

I just got an email from eLuxury, and what I saw made me do a double-take. First of all, I was hit by the realization that it had been 10 years since the Fendi Baguette, once an insanely popular little bag that over the years has come in every possible color and material combination, was released.

But at the bottom, amidst all the spring-colored baguettes, was a new addition for those with an artistic flair…

If you have ever dreamed of decorating your own luxury bag, but had to settle for using paint pens on a $4.99 canvas tote from Hobby Lobby, Fendi is making it possible for you to go a bit more upscale.

Inside the Fendi gift box is one white coated canvas Baguette and ten Pantone Universe markers. I would imagine that these are permanent markers, so it would be best to make sure you have a very good design plotted before cutting loose.

It all sounds like great fun until you get the reality check, or should I say “the bill”. $1300 for a blank canvas that you can wear…hmmm.

But then, how cool would it be if you had one personally decorated by your favorite artist (dead or alive): Stephen Sprouse, Peter Max, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Piet Mondrian, Jackson Pollack; these are just a few that I think could do justice to a bag like this.

My smiley faces and stick men would hardly justiy such a rarified medium. ;-)

Are you brave enough to risk $1300 and decorate your own? Or one for your sweetie? If so, then click here.

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

Ok, I was reading thinking Jennifer would love one of these…then I hit the price tag. Ouch..

    I know. :-(

Judie!! You post tech goodies I want all the time, must you post purses too? ;-) Gear Diary is totally my kryptonite.

That is a really cool idea…I don’t plan on plunking down $1300 for a purse barely big enough for my phone, though!

Jessica, believe me…I hold myself back when it comes to not posting about fashion – especially accessories like shoes and purses; I love both! What I didn’t put in the article above was that for essentially the same price you can get the brand new Louis Vuitton Galliera…which yeah. :-P My birthday was today, after all.

You know, what I would like to see and I know some of you girls would too is a design your own bag/backpack/whatever. My PERFECT laptop bag would have a pocket for every cable and enough space in a large compartment to hold some books, and maybe even my mixing board.

Judie, that LV is gorgeous!! *drools* No reason us tech girls should be forced to carry our gear in anything less than the highest style! I’m waiting until after I get my iPhone and then I am thinking of pulling the trigger on a Speedy.

Ok, so let me try this again! I am no gear diary guru, not an ounce to “techy-ness” in my blood, but this Fendi bag has my name all over it!
I had crafted a wonderfully funny comment and lost it!
Long story short- at last I have found a post about something I can fully understand and appreciate! It is taking much restraint not to hit the “buy me now” button! Thats it, I am off to the local craft store to craft myself one of these dreamy little bags! Haven’t decided yet if I will make my own art work design or perhaps a Monet! It is spring after all! What art teacher should be without one of these little goodies? Thanks for posting this Judie, and I hope you are enjoying your special day! Happy Birthday!

The Speedy is such a classic! Great choice!

Joel, I would love to do just that to create my perfect laptop bag. I already had the opportunity to do that a few years ago with Alexandra Knight, when I created my perfect purse / daily gear bag, but I love to mix it up. Purses are a major weakness…don’t get me started. :sigh:

Jennifer, now I understand why Wayne thought of you immediately! You are an art teacher? Oh, to have your artistic talent…I would be so sorely tempted to get this bag.

Thank you for my cake, too!!! :-D

I am still fighting temptaion Judie! I even peeked in the Coach store this evening. They have a really cute bag I have been lusting after. I had this idea that I could decorate the Fendi to mimic the Coach!
Alas, I about a pair of flip flops and put beading on the straps!
I will be dreaming up my best Fendi baguette design, dreaminbg in color! However, being an art teacher I could never afford this little charmer- but what an inspiration.
