I’m not sure if they still do it, but Amex used to pay for various Petty packages through their rewards system. That’s how I “paid” for my ex to do this – at the very same track, as a matter of fact. Great write-up Wayne.

I got to do the ride along in Vegas as part of a convention I was attending. We had extra passes in our group so I rode twice. the second time the driver asked how close I wanted to get to the wall and before I could answer he slid up and brushed it.

I’m not sure if it was a scream of horror or a squeal of ecstasy, but they couldn’t wipe the grin off my face for a half hour.

Now you’ve got me pumped to do the whole schmeer.

Alison – definitely go!! I had a blast and if I lived closer I would go again. I think they follow some of the NASCAR races too and may setup a schedule before and/or after the Cup races.

Think about doing the ride along experience too. It’s cheaper — because you don’t drive and you are just a passenger with a driver. But it looked like a LOT of fun and the day of the ride they were offering them for a discount. If I wasn’t driving I would have done that too.

That’s a great write-up Wayne. I’ve been thinking about getting this as a gift for my husband the next time we’re near a Petty Driving Experience, and the tip about getting the 16 lap option is invaluable!
