As to fumes, you should petition your state to pass clean air legislation for fume recapture devices similar to what California and Massachusetts have. Not only is it not great to breathe, it's not great to be released into the environment either.

As pji and Matthew Miller say, this is not only not a smart idea, it is illegal, that’s WHY the latch isn’t there. So prop it up and stick around :)

Just an FYI – It is illegal to leave a gas pump unattended in many states… or so it says on the pumps. the benefits far out weigh any possblae situations. #1 Travel accessory and the sdsmart way to pump gas!
BTW: The back pressure from the pump mechanism put enough pressure on Gas Buddyy to cut it off..!hope that help., plenty of good info and tips on our website www.GaspUmpeasy.com

as the Iventor of gasbuddy I can assure you that tests have proven that gas buddy cuts off automatically.. there will never NEVER be a spill…in fact, you save mmoney because the person is the one that over spills amnd overfills causing danger situations arpound the pump, etc.

the benefits far out weigh any possblae situations. #1 Travel accessory and the sdsmart way to pump gas!

BTW: The back pressure from the pump mechanism put enough pressure on Gas Buddyy to cut it off..!hope that help., plenty of good info and tips on our website <a

http://www.gaspumpeasy.com/6201.html
They say when you aren't using the ball to prop open gas you can throw it around with the kids and dog....
Let's hope you avoid open flames around the ball --- because if it's been doused in gas it isn't something I'd smoke around or throw to my dog or kids...

Check out the site’s recommendation on this page:

<a

I have also seen signs on the pumps lately recommending that you not get in and out of your vehicle due to static electricity buildup.

Even if a pump has the latch, I still never walk away and into the store while pumping gas.
