I’ll admit to being a little intrigued by the whole Twitter thing. I’ve concluded that Twitter, as it stands, is primarily a year 2008 version of CB Radio for Bloggers and their cult followings. That doesn’t keep me from trying to understand and use it. I’ve been having a lot of fun finding local users with twitterlocal.net This evening however I received an email that “Gingivitis” is now following me on Twitter. When will Twitter get a real time Black Hole for spammy accounts like my friend Gingivitis and Managementsyste who both tried to follow me. When I reviewed their Twitter page – it was all links to spam sites. I’m unaware of any system for determining which Twitter accounts are spam. Who will be the first to implement this?

You’re right – that is needed, and somebody has to do it soon. Seems there are already so many Twitter spin-offs, strange there is not something in this area yet …

This type of thing is easy to manage when the numbers are small, but I bet within a month this type of spam problem escalates.
Spammers love situations where it is difficult to block their sill messages — and Twitter is about the easiest to bypass.
Luckily one of the biggest drawbacks of Twitter is that unless people follow you, nobody really hears your message. And that sort of works in our favor with Twitter spammers.

What kills me is there must be some idiots out there who actually BUY stuff from spammers, or else they would have given up long ago.
