DDH Software Announces New Mobile Database Design Contest

Can you believe that it has been ten years since HanDBase came out? This was one of the first business tools I bought to run on my Palm, and it was also an application that I eagerly added to my Pocket PC once they crossed platforms. Modern versions of HanDBase will seamlessly sync between Palm OS, Windows Mobile (for Pocket PC and Smartphone), Symbian Series 60 and UIQ, and BlackBerry smartphones, and can be run from either a Windows or Mac computer. Pretty slick, right?

So what is HanDBase and why should you care?

HanDBase is a light and fast relational database manager for desktops, PDAs, and smartphones which offers data entry, searching, sorting, filtering, printing and synchronization across a wide variety of desktop computers, handheld computing devices and smartphones.

With HanDBase, you can create database forms to keep track of everything and anything. If you aren’t up to creating your own personalized forms, you can also download ones that others have created from DDH Software’s extensive database repository – which currently has over 2,000 titles!

That’s where the competition comes into play:

To mark their 10th Anniversary, DDH is “reviving its “HanDBase Applet of the Year” contest, seeking the most innovative uses for its popular HanDBase mobile database program for PDAs and smartphones. The goal for this year’s contest is to demonstrate how easy it is for anyone to develop a mobile solution for either work or personal use. The company will reward the Best Commercial Applet and Best Personal Applet with “HanDBase Runtime” licenses (a US $1,000.00 value) which will enable the winners to turn their entries into commercially-available standalone mobile applications.”

Are you up to the challenge? Read on…

DDH Software Announces New Mobile Database Design Contest

Company offers the chance to turn ideas into commercially viable mobile applications

Wellington, FL (April 30, 2008)…DDH Software is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its acclaimed HanDBase mobile database application. To mark the occasion, the company announces it is reviving its “HanDBase Applet of the Year” contest, seeking the most innovative uses for its popular HanDBase mobile database program for PDAs and smartphones.

The goal for this year’s contest is to demonstrate how easy it is for anyone to develop a mobile solution for either work or personal use. The company will reward the Best Commercial Applet and Best Personal Applet with “HanDBase Runtime” licenses (a US $1,000.00 value) which will enable the winners to turn their entries into commercially-available standalone mobile applications.

DDH Software’s website, www.ddhsoftware.com, currently offers the largest online gallery of free custom applets for mobile devices, including Access (Palm) OS, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry and Symbian handsets. More than 2,000 HanDBase applets are currently available in DDH Software’s gallery, including solutions for a variety of industries, professions and personal uses. Examples include diet managers, travel expense logs and report generators, personal finance managers, and dictionaries for medical terms and pharmaceuticals.

No purchase of HanDBase is required to enter the contest. A free, full-featured 30-day trial version is available at the company’s Web site. Contestants can use this demo copy to create their entry, and can create as many custom applets as they would like in order to improve their odds of winning the grand prize.

“We’re excited about this year’s contest, especially with the recent release of HanDBase 4.0 offering more features for creative users to incorporate into their entries,” said David Haupert, DDH Software’s president and CEO. “Through this contest, we hope to demonstrate how easy it is for anyone to create any kind of mobile information management tool. Which HanDBase applet will rise to the top this year and could potentially become a commercially successful mobile application? We’re anxious to find out!”

Submissions are due before June 30th, 2008, and the winners will be announced on July 31st, 2008.

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
