As reported yesterday, it appears that AT&T has turned on free WIFI for iPhone subscribers. This morning while on my way to visit a client I took a short detour to the Glastonbury CT Starbucks on Hebron Ave and can confirm that I received the login prompt, entered my phone number, and was online surfing via WIFI on my iPhone.

Here’s the post-login screen after I entered my iPhone phone number.
I have no idea whether this wifi is time limited or whether I could have stayed at Starbucks and surfed all day. This also appears limited to iPhone’s, meaning if you have an iPhone you can’t also get free laptop logins. Of course someone will probably devise a workaround shortly.

This is cool and I’ll have to check it out. There are some Starbucks in the Mobile, AL area where I live, but there really aren’t many on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where I work. Starbucks, in general, hasn’t reached the saturation level yet here it has in other parts of the country so I still have to go a bit out of the way to find one.
Anytime(anywhere) you add WiFi access is a good thing, though!

What I can’t wait for is when someone figures out how to fool AT&T into their laptop log in.
I’m curious too if this is timed.
