Eric Lin, who is himself a former member of Mobius, spoke to us about the new HTC Diamond’s evolution, as well as his new role with the company. Eric said that we can expect to see many more innovative devices coming from HTC, but the Diamond is their first foray into the fashion phone market. After handling the phone, I have to say that the UI is gorgeous, and the phone is much smaller than I expected. The facets on the back are not as pronounced as I thought they would be, and overall, it’s not a bad looking device…but it is a total fingerprint magnet.
Still getting milage out of that picture of Eric in a suit
Enjoy the photos…
Update: Holy cow. We got the new Advantage 7510 to take home. :falls over and dies:
I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
Not very high praise, Judie. From all the launch blogs salivating over this device I’d have expected it to excite you at least. Nothing, huh?

Heh, you’ll have to tell us what you think about the 7510′s keyboard vis a vis the X7500/X7501′s…

Can’t wait – naturally that’s going to be a giveaway, right?

I think that one may be a keeper for Judie, she has only been telling me how much she wants one since it was announced

I can picture Judie now. Dining out with all the other people, secretly hoping she can rush back to her room to start charging the Advantage!!

WOW!!! SOOOOOO Jealous!!!!!!!!!!!

kevinnugent is right – all through dinner all I could think of was rushing back to the room. Joel Evans, Matt Miller and I are about to meet up and explore them. I’ll get pictures of the unboxing and post proper comments asap.
Otherwise, are you all enjoying the reports as I am writing them? I am getting them up as fast as possible, and not editing my photos maybe as much as I should – but I want to share as much as possible as quickly as possible…

& kevinnugent, that was the last session of the day. I will have more reports tomorrow.

& one more thing: It’s not that the Diamond doesn’t excite me (and yes, we will be getting one of those, too!), it’s that it’s not *my* ideal device. We’ll see how I feel when I get to spend more than 5 minutes with it, but you know…

I like the reports like this. Sort of like have a Gear Diary! Pun intended. Have fun sleeping with your new Advantage, Judie. It’ll be all ready to play with in the morning. hehe

Ok, so I just Googled the Advantage 7510, and all I have to say is WOW!!! That is one sweet looking phone. I can’t wait to hear what kind of fun you had using it. I am now going to wipe the drool from my mouth, and try to do some work.

That is AWESOME news!! I will be excited to see your review of both the Diamond and the 7510! This is awesome news for the site!!!!!

Heather, this is the just the first HTC phone that Horace Luke was behind, and he is nothing if not innovative. I expect some interesting and exciting designs coming in the next year or so. But no, we weren’t told anything other than to keep an eye out for future phones that might be more suited to power users.

Thanks for the info Judie!!! My search for a smartphone continues….

Ha! It looks like there are a ton of choices coming from many different manufacturers. Gotta love that!

I need a new gadget badly! I’m back on the Treo 750; and while its nice, it just ain’t cuttin’ it any more…

All they would tell us is second half 2008. Be patient grasshopper!
Heatwave316
Well, I hope it turns out to be early Q3. I do so need a new toy…
http://geardiary.com Christopher Spera
Patience??? YOU tell that to the hole burning in my pocket!
http://www.geardiary.com Judie Lipsett
I knoooooow! But you must wait! New iPhone coming, new WinMo phones coming…the minute you buy something you are going to cuss! Better to at least wait until June…
http://geardiary.com Christopher Spera
I know, I know, I know, I know… but I don’t have to like it. Squiring away money now… I just hope I have enough for the new gadget and the accessories I know I will likely want for it when the one I DO buy becomes available.

Jeff Kirvin was not impressed with the Diamond, and I doubt I would be:
