Mobius Seattle 2008: Day One, Second Half, HTC

Eric Lin, who is himself a former member of Mobius, spoke to us about the new HTC Diamond’s evolution, as well as his new role with the company. Eric said that we can expect to see many more innovative devices coming from HTC, but the Diamond is their first foray into the fashion phone market. After handling the phone, I have to say that the UI is gorgeous, and the phone is much smaller than I expected. The facets on the back are not as pronounced as I thought they would be, and overall, it’s not a bad looking device…but it is a total fingerprint magnet.

kevinnugent is right - all through dinner all I could think of was rushing back to the room. Joel Evans, Matt Miller and I are about to meet up and explore them. I’ll get pictures of the unboxing and post proper comments asap.
Otherwise, are you all enjoying the reports as I am writing them? I am getting them up as fast as possible, and not editing my photos maybe as much as I should - but I want to share as much as possible as quickly as possible…

& one more thing: It’s not that the Diamond doesn’t excite me (and yes, we will be getting one of those, too!), it’s that it’s not *my* ideal device. We’ll see how I feel when I get to spend more than 5 minutes with it, but you know…

Ok, so I just Googled the Advantage 7510, and all I have to say is WOW!!! That is one sweet looking phone. I can’t wait to hear what kind of fun you had using it. I am now going to wipe the drool from my mouth, and try to do some work.

Heather, this is the just the first HTC phone that Horace Luke was behind, and he is nothing if not innovative. I expect some interesting and exciting designs coming in the next year or so. But no, we weren’t told anything other than to keep an eye out for future phones that might be more suited to power users.

I know, I know, I know, I know… but I don’t have to like it.
Squiring away money now… I just hope I have enough for the new gadget and the accessories I know I will likely want for it when the one I DO buy becomes available.

pradley, the Diamond is definitely not for everyone (nor do I believe it will be for me), but it is great to have device choices for every type user.
