The Southern California housing market looks like it’s in tough shape. If you need further proof, just look at this unbelievable housing offer. If you purchase a Royal View Estate home (starting at $1.6 million), the developer will throw a free $400,000 home in Escondido for free. Dawn Berry, a spokesperson for the developer, Michael Crews Development, said this is a legitimate offer and they promise that they have not artificially inflated the prices of either home. Unfortunately the promo is listed as expiring May 31, 2008 but I bet if you ask maybe they’ll extend it. And if you’re not using that extra house, can I have it?

This is just crazy.
So technically, you have a ready-built rental property. You could rent it out and apply the earnings to your homestead payment. And of course, any improvements or repairs to the rental would be tax deductible. What a sweet way to get into the real estate market. Assuming you have the 1.6 million (or can qualify to get it) to play with.
