Here’s an interesting deal for those in need of a prepaid phone. T-Mobile has their Nokia 2610 for free after a $30 MIR (mail in rebate). T-Mobile just added free mobile to mobile and 7pm Nights/Weekends to their daily prepaid plans making them one of the best deals for those users who need a lot of night or weekend minutes without the burden of a contract (Note: The T-Mobile daily plans have a $1/day fee – so they work best for moderate users). If you prefer AT&T, the same Nokia 2610 prepaid phone (refurbished) is offered for $9.99.

Another thing these throw away phones are good for is if you go on vacation to a spot where you know your regular phone does not get coverage.

You can pick up a prepaid phone, fill it with some time, then while on vacation you at least have a backup phone.

This Nokia will work on a post-paid T-Mobile SIM. In order to get the rebate I’m quite sure you will have to put some time onto the phone.

If you want to use this phone on a carrier other than T-Mobile – you’ll need to get it unlocked (the phone is locked so it will only accept T-Mobile — any other SIM will product “Sim rejected” or similar error message).
