Web site Gasedge.com does one thing. It lets you enter in the price per gallon that your local station charges for gas. Then you enter in the cheaper price that a farther station offers. Tell Gasedge what your car gets for mileage and how far it is to that cheaper station – and the site tells you whether it makes sense to drive farther for your gas or just overpay in your own town. It’s a cool free utility that you can try out now.

Interesting…..but I understand you all have fuel price issues. I was over in the US in April so I saw the price hikes, but we’re the same here in the UK. But our prices are approximately equivalent $14-$15 per gallon over here in the UK with similar earnings & income to those of you in the US.
Therefore we pay a considerably higher price ratio to those of you in the US for the almost the same incomes.
Our prices have been higher since the oil crisis in 1970′s, with no bottoming out. No wonder our prices over here are shown in litres, if it were in gallons we would have a revolution!!!!

Nos1959 – I totally feel for you. It’s no wonder that fuel efficient cars are so necessary in the UK and Europe, if we had to pay prices like yours maybe we would reconsider SUVs and other ridiculous large vehicles when they aren’t warranted by the person’s job. :-/

I think the US is going to go through a complete transformation in the automotive industry. The SUV and super SUV’s (like the Hummer) are gone. The new car is the mini. I’m not sold electric will rule the landscape but you never know.
I am always wondering if a .15 / gal difference in price makes it worthwhile to drive across town. Now I can tell (or at least get an idea) by using the site.
It would be nice if they told you what level of savings would be needed to make it worthwhile to travel to another gas station.
