if you haven’t seen it yet, you need to take a quick peak at Gear Diary’s We Twit page. Some of us, uh…Twits here at GD, make an effort to tweet as often as we can on Twitter. As such, Twitter gives you the opportunity to put your latest tweet on your website. Judie and a bunch of us have created a Twitter status page for everyone, so you can follow us from one convenient spot.
While reading some of the recent tweets on my Twitter home page, I noticed an interesting opinion piece from James Kendrick of JK on the Run. He has asked a thought provoking question - If the iPhone’s $199/$299 price tags are in fact, subsidized prices, what about the rest of us who aren’t eligible for a new phone?? What will the iPhone cost us? Can we get it without subsidy; and if so, how much will that be (rumors are well over $500)?
As always, James provides a thought provoking set of comments. Y’all should check it out and join us in the discussion and give us your thoughts on it.

Hmm - I guess I’m one of the few who thinks he figured this out.
It’s been pretty widely reported that:
1. Existing iPhone users can upgrade at the new customer price - $199/$299
2. New customers can buy the iPhone 3G for $199/$299
3. AT&T customers not under contract are going to pay a higher price which last I checked had yet to be stated by AT&T
Personally I found the ability to purchase replacement phones via a retail counter to be a huge selling point. Too bad that the opportunists who bought armloads and unlocked them ultimately spoiled it for everyone.

Cool to see the WeTwit page, I think I’ll just Follow some GD writers. Scobleizer is a bit silent now that IM is offline so I’d like to see more incoming Tweets.
As for the iPhone 3G - In the Netherlands it’s a T-Mobile exclusive with the cheapest subscription at 30 euros. My current subscription is 25 euros and I’ve got a 50% discount for 6 or 12 months (can’t remember). After that I’ll lower my amount. So for me it’s too expensive anyway, for a device that doesn’t copy/paste. (I’m on Orange so I’d have to get a new subscription, but my current one still lasts until Februari 2010…)

The interesting thing will be for guys like me who are under contract, and aren’t quite elibible for a new phone yet. I won’t be eligible on my current line until 1/11/09. I really don’t want to get a new line… OR have to pay full price…what ever THAT turns out to be…

I found the article more than a bit whiny … he was calling ‘false advertising’ on something that is common practice. $99 Centro? Only if you buy it subsidized! And so on. Sure it is lousy if you don’t qualify, but I know that I paid over $300 to get a non-camera phone to use on my personal account for my new job because my old one was only 6 months old … I dealt with it.
