According to a CNET report, the U.S. Army is testing two generators that run on garbage. Known as TGER (Tactical Garbage to Energy Refinery), the units accept trash through a chute. Wet waste is separate from the dry where at least some of it is converted to ethanol, mixed with gas and used to power the generator. The dry waste is ground into pellets and put into a gasifier which heats them until they turn into a synthetic gas-fuel that powers the generator. In case you’re thinking this would be cool for your house, consider that it takes 6 hours to start. On the bright side, due to its use of waste as fuel, the generator only uses 5% of the diesel normally consumed. Just imagine how much fun you could have pairing it up with this gas powered blender!
