If you’re using a Blackberry handheld with version 4.5 OS (required to take full advantage of this network upgrade) then you’ll be happy to know that a RIM service outage is scheduled for June 28 -29. As part of this service outage, RIM have indicated that the BIS network (Blackberry Internet Service) will be upgraded from version 2.4 to 2.5. When everything comes back up, those Berry’s sporting the version 4.5 OS will have access to HTML email, native format attachment downloads, over the air device upgrades, free/busy calendar lookups and the ability to search the server for prior emails (some of these services must be used in conjunction with an updated Blackberry Enterprise Server).
