ESCORT Radar announced today the Passport 9500ix, an updated radar detector with GPS that improves upon their earlier model by adding in a safety camera database and web updates (fee based after initial 90 days). By relying on the GPS, ESCORT designed the 9500ix with AutoSensitivity to vary sensitivity based on the speed of your vehicle. At slow speeds the sensitivity is reduced to help eliminate false alarms. Their AutoLearn feature uses the GPS to remember locations that trigger false alarms – blocking them out from annoying you in the future. If your state still has police that monitor the traffic with radar (Judging by the way people in Connecticut drive on the higway it seems my state has given up the battle) this may be a useful tool. Updates to the internal safety camera database require that you tether via USB to your computer — how cool would it be if this radar detector combined a wireless internet connection similar to how the Dash Express does? Look for the 9500ix in July for $499.
