The DoneRight Timer-Because the Kitchen is No Place for Math!

Posted on 30 June 2008 by

You wouldn’t know it by my lunchtime eating habits (now where shall I get my lo mein today?), but my girlfriend and I like to consider ourselves as at least pseudo-gourmet chefs. And let me tell you, it’s hard work to whip up mess of Pseudos without overcooking them. Especially if you have to keep track of multiple burners and an oven.

Luckily, Tuscan Concepts and your local Target Store have teamed up to help solve that particular problem. The fix is after the jump.

If your kitchen is like mine, you probably have a typical four-burner stovetop with an oven below. If your kitchen is exactly like mine, then you have a single analog clock timer positioned right in the center of the of the stove with the adjustment knob missing for oh, ten or twelve years. The judicious use of Vice-Grip tm pliers is necessary to set the timer or to quiet its shrill alarm. I hope your kitchen isn’t like mine.

The DoneRight Timer isn’t just whimsically attractive; it is also very functional. Four separate individual timers correspond to the burners on a typical stove and another serves to time the oven.

No longer must I go through the mental gymnastics of, “These fish sticks need 35 minutes at 350 degrees in the oven, but the pork chop recipe says to cook them 6 minutes per side. So I need to set the timer for 6 minutes, then flip them over and reset it for 6 minutes and then when they’re done, the fish sticks need 23 minutes more. Oh, but wait. The package says to flip the fish sticks halfway through their cooking time. So that’s 5 minutes after I’ve reset the pork chop timer for the second time. Oh screw it! What’s the number for Domino’s again?”

Again, I hope your kitchen isn’t like mine.

The DoneRight Timer comes in four bold primary colors, though I do have to comment on the lack of Avocado or Harvest Gold to match my kitchen decor.

The timers are easy to set, easy to use, easy to see and mercifully turn themselves off after sounding the alarm for a short time. After a minute, they beep once to remind you that you haven’t reset the timer yet. Oh, and to turn off the oven. We’re in an energy crisis here, people!

The DoneRight Timer from Tuscan Concepts is available exclusively at www.target.com and www.amazon.com.

MSRP: $24.99

What I Like: Clever idea makes it simple to monitor multiple kitchen procedures. Whimsical design.

What Needs Improvement: Nothing.
