I was a child of Lego. Lego was my favorite toy ever when I was a kid. I would constantly be building spaceships, robots, rockets and cars out of the brightly colored plastic bricks. I would keep some models together for a long time and would horde my favorite pieces. Well, Imagine walking into a vault and finding every one of the over 4000 sets of Lego ever made. From the train set that activated when you whistled to the 1970-1980 time I lived through with space men and more. The video Gizmodo shot is amazing! Take a trip down memory lane over at Gizmodo and figure out how many of these sets you… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

With the iPhone scheduled to appear on July 11, I think RIM is trying to insert just a touch of F.U.D. (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) into the minds of buyers. A video was just sent out by RIM that gives a very brief overview of the yet to be priced or scheduled for release Blackberry Bold. This video is a pretty high level look at the device that points out the web browser (static page) and the nice big screen for watching movies. Watch the movie for yourself at the link below.Link: Blackberry Bold Video via CB Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Buy.com has a deal on this unlocked Nokia N82. Unfortunately the data side on this uses the 2100 MHZ 3G networks that are found only in Europe and Asia – so if you buy this for use in the United States you’ll be stuck with EDGE. It does have quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). When paired with a compatible 3G network that uses UMTS 2100 MHz connectivity (found in Europe and Asia), you’ll enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless services with speeds up to 384 Kbps–from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming, and take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In the United States and foreign territories where 2100 MHz 3G networks are not Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The recently announced Nokia E71 is available for pre-order at both Buy.com ($419) and TigerDirect ($429). There’s no word on when they may come into stock – however it appears that July is the most hoped for timeframe and it falls within the announced Q3 2008 release date. Curious Nokia fans who have wandered into the flagship NY Nokia store have gotten a glimpse at the E71 (or a prototype). It’s not out on display but those who know the manager and the secret Nokia handshake have apparently been able to gain a peek. The E71 has shown up on other web sites, however at this time Buy and TigerDirect seem to be the two most reputable that will also allow… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The new Blackberry flip phone from Research In Motion — aka Kickstart — gets put in a lineup with the Blackberry Bold. Neither phone has been released yet (they’re expected within the new few months – Bold with 3G speed on AT&T and Kickstart with EDGE speed on T-Mobile). This gives you a chance to compare the two devices and start making plans for your next Berry upgrade. Rumor has it the Kickstart is sporting the RIM OS v4.6, Wi-Fi and a 2 megapixel camera. My prediction? It’s all about the browser. From this point in any device that doesn’t have a browser than can match the iPhone’s desktop-like experience will be destined for the “we pay you to take it” bin… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Synchronicity was arguably the best album ever for the Police. I still remember seeing them on tour in Providence Rhode Island. We slept out overnight for tickets (remember those days?). None of us could believe the absurd price that they were getting for each ticket. Surely nobody would every pay that price for a concert ticket. The price then was $20, which was an unheard of sum of money in 1983 for concert tickets. Relive a little of that 1983′s nostalgia with their Synchronicity album which Amazon will let you legally download for $1.99. I’m not sure how long this deal will last so if you’re interested head over their soon.Link: Police – Synchronicity – $1.99 at Amazon.com Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Popular online and offline note taking application Evernote today emerges from beta with two options for users to chose from. We’ve previously reviewed the Evernote Beta and have been favorably impressed. There will remain a free version of the software with a monthly 40 mb upload limit. More serious note takers can select a Evernote Premium version with a 500 mb per monthly upload limit for $5/mo. Evernote has received wide praise for its ability to support and synchronized data between Windows, Mac and Web clients. The software also features impressive image recognition software that can search words within images. My four word review? You Should Use This.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Beginning July 1, 2008 Virgin Mobile will offer unlimited nationwide prepaid cellular service with no roaming charges, no annual contract, and no activation charges. The price for this unlimited calling plan will be $79.99 per month, representing possibly the lowest prepaid unlimited cellular plan offered by a major carrier (Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint phone network). This rate could best the prepaid offering from competitor (and acquisition candidate) Helio by $20 per month. Unfortunately text messaging and data services are not included in the unlimited plan though an unlimited bundle may be added for $10 per month. Follow the link below to sign up to receive notification when Virgin Mobile’s unlimited plan goes live. Link: Virgin Mobile Totally Unlimited Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Here’s an aptly named web site for the romantically clueless. Sweetslap.com bills itself as a site that provides the “refreshing, light slap in the face that all couples need once in a while to stop and remember to appreciate one another”. Their sample suggestions are chock filled with blatantly obvious stuff that would be helpful to anyone who has never dated helpful date suggestions like: Do something different together! Take some lessons, maybe martial arts, golf, language classes, cooking classes or even try volunteering together. Bottom line – talk about your common interests and start learning and experiencing something new. Wow. Never would have thought of that. And for the completely helpless, the site publishes a plethora of top 20 lists – including the much needed Top 20 Things Not To Say During Sex. My favorite is #7 — “Perhaps you’re just out of practice”… Take a look at the list on the next page – just in case you need a few pointers.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

No one can dispute the runaway success of the little Centro that could; it has truly become something of a phenomenon. Judging by the fact that Palm has just released an unlocked GSM version, they must want to make sure that anyone who would like to buy their own Centro (without a new contract commitment) has a fair chance… In addition, they have released Google Maps with My Location. The unlocked Centro smartphone is available online at http://www.palm.com/centro for $299. Google Maps for mobile with My Location will be available tomorrow free of charge for Palm Centro smartphones at http://www.google.com/gmm. Please check the site for details on the download process and carrier availability. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

After reading review after review and probably driving my poor wife up the wall about it, I decided to take the plunge and stick with Sprint(they only have 30 days to prove their worthiness). My obsession with everything iPhone 3G has been outweighed by my necessity to pinch pennies for the diapers my 4 month old Cooper so lovingly annihilates on an hourly basis. So that led me to the much anticipated Instinct, mind you it was purchased at Best Buy as they give you the $129.99 price out the door…no waiting until Halloween for my rebate check! And no the box didn’t get wet, that’s actually how it looks. Continue reading on Gear Diary …
