Last weekend RIM upgraded the Blackberry Internet Service to version 2.5. This means that anyone with a Blackberry where the OS is at least version 4.5 can now receive HTML emails. The problem in the USA is that none of the carriers have yet released their official 4.5 versions. Fortunately most of the Blackberry OS releases from other carriers (publicly available and freely downloadable) work without a hitch. Numerous users have loaded the Vodafone version 4.5 release to their Blackberry thus enabling HTML email (along with all the other benefits of the latest RIM operating system). Just be sure that you follow all the instructions (at this time it seems T-Mobile users should avoid upgrading due to reported issues). Head over to BlackberryForums and check out their very good instructions for upgrading your Berry.
