There is a leaked HTC Touch ROM that is allegedly the official Sprint version. It’s been floating around on various unofficial Sprint forums for some time now. The fact that it’s available doesn’t make it the legally blessed ROM. Some people who’ve obtained the early release complain about flaky GPS and flaky call logs. So when can Sprint HTC Touch users expect the ROM upgrade which reportedly adds Windows Mobile 6.1, EVDO Rev A and GPS capabilities to their device? According to a post in the Sprint Application Developer forum - the target date is the first part of July. When it appears, I’m expecting it to show up in the Touch by HTC - Sprint Support Site. Make the jump for a list of what you can expect in the new HTC Touch Sprint (official) ROM when it’s released.

Here are the features that users are reporting will be included in the official HTC Sprint Touch ROM upgrade:
- GPS with Live Search
- Threaded SMS via Windows Mobile 6.1
- EVDO Rev A
- QWERTY keyboard
- Missed calls link on the homescreen
- No “message sent” indicator after you send a text message
- Clock updates faster
- Microsoft OneNote now included as part of Office Suite
- New Splash Screen
- HTC Launcher includes 2 new icons for rotating the screen
- New communications manager
- Automatic BT pairing with headsets
- No option to force phone into “Roam Only”
We recommend against using any but the official operating system. Even though it’s tempting to install these early - there is often a reason that a carrier hasn’t officially released them.
