It’s been a while since I’ve seen a city up for auction on eBay. These things are always so tough to judge. Should you bid early. Bid late. If you’re like me and are a lazy eBayer - maybe you use the Buy It Now option. If you’re in the market for a city in New Mexico - you’re ship has come in! You can have this 11 parcel , 366.25 acre city for one easy payment of $5,000,000. eBay Mastercard will even let you defer it until January 2009!
The Entire City is up for auction. You get two motels, gas station, gifts shops, restaurants,
RV-Park, opera house, post office, all dwellings.
You own the ENTIRE CITY!!!Located at the entrance of Carlsbad Caverns National Park
which boasts more than 500,000 visitors per year.
Great opportunity to own a piece of old west history
Included in the auction are all the assets of the city, which include its water rights for 460 acre-feet of daily potable water usage. This amounts to 150,000,000 gallons per year from its three Artisan wells. As the only source of potable water for nearly 20 miles, this asset is truly significant as it is the life’s blood of the community. Previews are being held July 12 and 13th. More pictures and a link to the auction after the jump.
Unique as it is and situated at the only entrance and exit to Carlsbad Caverns National Park, White’s City thrives on the parks national draw of daily visitors and boasts many amenities, which cater to the constant flow of vehicular traffic and tourist. The city has two operating motels with 105 rooms, RV park with 46 spaces with water and electricity, 25 campsites, U.S. Post Office, grocery store, two restaurants, gift shops, gas station, museum, opera house, ice cream parlor and all the desert beauty of the Guadalupe Mountains.
In the hands of the right investor, entrepreneur, or philanthropist White’s City can be returned to its heyday splendor. The auction will literally place the keys to the city in the hands of the winning bidder. Outlying acreages will be offered absolute to the last and highest bidder.
Here’s the layout of what you are bidding for:

Not only can you elect yourself mayor of the town - but you can make money working in your very own gas station.

They claim that 500,000 visitors per year visit Carlsbad Caverns. Raise the admission fee a buck or two — and watch how fast you can pay down the $5,000,000 purchase price!

If running a gas station isn’t to your liking — try the “no tell motel”. It’s included in the purchase price. The cowboy window shades stay.

Of course the town also includes a gift shop where there’s no limit to the funky merchandise you can sell. White’s City snow globes anyone?

Last but not least is the Mayor’s residence.
You’ll bed down in style with the remainder of the town folk here in this luxury neighborhood. If staring at McMansions and tighly package homes is not your cup of tea - this country living just might be what you’re looking for.

Oooh! I could be a Western Boss Hogg…shoot, my wife’s great uncle gave us one of those bull horns gizmos that I could stick on the front of my SUV. Not quite as dramatic as a cadillac, but hey, I have kids to drive around. Not sure about the cigar-chomping, though. Wife wouldn’t care for that. Would I have to trade in my SIG for a 6-shooter?
