Heading out to an Apple Store for an iPhone – check availability online before going

Did you miss out on all the 3G iPhone fun yesterday at the Apple stores? Are you thinking of going to an Apple store today to buy an iPhone? If so, remember that each night at 9pm Apple updates the inventory status of their stores. They show online which models are available at each store. Quanities are not shown — so you should plan to arrive early if you have your heart set on a specific color or capacity. This is the only way for you to find out the stock status — once you get to the Apple store all they’re capable of doing is shoving you into a line. Apple personnel are unwilling/unable to answer ANY questions about availability. Good luck – you may need it.

Everytime I’ve hit this page, I get a “come back and check after 9pm” message. thing doesn’t work for me…

You will only find the store status updates after 9pm. The site is not broken, they are not able to maintain an up-to-the-minute status on what is available in the stores so they will only update in the evening. So wait until tonight and status should be available.
