I noticed two very interesting posts this morning after I got into the office. First, the Boy Genius Report is reporting that (yet another) update to Apple’s new iPhone 3G is immanent. They are reporting that firmware version 2.0.1, builds 5B101 (iPhone) and 5B103 (iPhone 3G) will likely make an appearance soon. How soon remains to be seen; and they do indicated that this is currently rumor-mill material. Check their article out for more info.
Secondly, I noticed at Engadget that Turn by Turn GPS Navigation is supposed to be coming to the iPhone 3G soon. That’s also an interesting read, as the rumor that the iPhone’s GPS antenna is too small to support that application is just that…rumor/disinformation.
Engadget also goes on to say that the other hot iPhone 3G topic, cut/copy/paste functionality wasn’t and still isn’t high on Apple’s hit list. While that may not make sense to a lot of people, especially Windows Mobile vets like me, with Apple, its all about the experience; and I can see some of that in what they’ve done with the iPhone so far.
Keep an eye out kids, this is going to be an interesting next 30 days as MANY people evaluate the iPhone and decide if its a keeper or not… (yours truly included!)

Apple has since “taken back” the statements they made about the GPS being too small.

I was so excited to hear the new iPhone was coming out but then I hear that they wouldn’t be releasing a higher capacity phone (i.e. 32GB) just yet. I so wanted to buy an iPhone. Now I have to wait. Hopefully I won’t have to wait too long. Plus with all these updates, maybe it’s a good that I wait since by the time I get one, all the kinks should be ironed out.

Yea, I’m waiting until late august or september. I really want to see some more about these horrific battery life claims

It’s funny because now several sites are reporting that the 3G iPhone is BETTER about battery life than other 3G devices. Personally, ALL 3G devices suck battery like it’s going out of style, and if you’re on/near a 3G border, you’re really going to see battery drain in all 3G devices due to the regular searching/switching between 2G and 3G.
What we really need is the next big thing in battery technology to come save us from all these power-hungry services like 3G and faster processors and VGA screens and additional RAM.
