According to a story in this evening’s Hartford Courant, Police in the State of CT are now accepting crime tips via text messages. Using the SMS code “274637″, concerned citizens of Connecticut are able to text in crime tips to any of 6 different police agencies (State PD, Hartford, Bridgeport, Stamford, Waterbury or New Haven). For example, to text a tip to the CT State Police, send an SMS to 274637 with the message TIP711 followed by the crime tip. Tips are routed to one central server where any identifying information is removed and the message body forwarded to the appropriate police department. These tips are meant to help police solve crimes and are not supposed to be used to report crimes – especially if you’re driving.
