According to a story in today’s Wall Street Journal, starting today all regular passengers (First Class excluded) on US Airways will be charged $ 2 for Soda and water and $ 1 for Tea and Coffee. This is the latest cost cutting move for airlines desperate to nickel and dime the flying public. Of little consolation is the confirmation that free water will still be available in the case of medical emergencies because according to US Airways “… the airline wouldn’t want its customers drinking tap water from the aircraft bathroom. That water is safe to drink, just not very palatable”. The article does quote US Airways as saying that in flight crews will have leeway to give free water if a passenger forgets money and becomes thirsty. Can we be very far away from in flight pay toilets?
