I've started paring back what I sync. I wasn't having issues, but I can see where folks would. Remember the early Palm / Pocket PC days (even Newton) of cramming every sort of useless utility on tiny memory cards (or in tiny memory!)? I had loads of crashes and hard resets on those early systems from trying out stuff!
