Freedom Blade and the Freedom Clip Pack-Extending Your Range on the Range

Posted on 15 August 2008 by

The number one complaint I hear from new adopters of the latest God Phones is the problem they have with dropped calls. Battery life issues can often be fixed with firmware updates, but when you’re out of range, you’re out of luck.

In an attempt to help address this problem, the folks at ARC Wireless Solutions have released the latest version of the Freedom Blade wireless signal booster for PDAs, cell phones and laptop wireless access cards.

More info after the jump.

We here at GearDiary have tested the previous incarnation of ARC’s Freedom Antenna to mixed results. The Freedom Blade works essentially the same way as the past version. A unique adapter is needed to connect to the antenna plug of whatever device you want to boost the signal of, and then a cable connects the adapter to the Freedom Blade. As people smarter than me have already written, the main thing an antenna can do to improve your signal is to get itself higher above obstructions that might block the wavelength of the carrier signal. So the best thing I can promise is that the Freedom Blade will get you 35 inches closer to the ionosphere.

ARC claims that the Freedom Blade can:
Decrease Dropped Calls
Reduces Dead Spots
Enhanced Voice Clarity
Works with all Major Wireless Carriers

I have a cabin high in the Tennessee mountains that is just remote enough so that my cell phone works in the driveway but not in the house. For privacy, that’s well nigh on perfect, but for emergencies it sure would be nice to actually be able to receive a call without standing on one leg pointed due north while holding the phone at a precise 53 degree angle in my right hand that has been wrapped in aluminum foil.

Maybe the Freedom Blade is the solution. What say you, gentle readers? What have you found to boost signal and rescue your lost calls?
