Ride Long and Carry a Big Stick

Posted on 19 August 2008 by

If the waves are not cooperating and skateboarding just seems too tame, then perhaps you need to take a look at the Kahuna Creations Longboard…

The first and only company to design land paddle gear, Kahuna Creations takes their inspiration from the ancient Hawaiian board riders.  Blending Hawaiian soul with the spirit of surfing, Kahuna Creations pay tribute by meticulously hand designing their equipment with genuine lava sand and cultural symbols.

This looks like the perfect way to bust your knees and elbows, while getting plenty of curious looks. If you are halfway coordinated, it might be a great full-body workout. If you are worried about propelling a longboard through the city streets, then don’t.

Kahuna Creations has invented a unique product to compliment longboarding.  Much like a stand-up paddle (SUP) used in the ocean, the Kahuna Big Stick™ is designed to enhance the longboard experience on pavement. The Kahuna Big Stick™ has a solid-wood barrel shaped grip and a gentle, tapered oval shaft to give a great feel in a paddle weighing only 16 ounces.  Fabric prints are sealed under the fiberglass for a sweet look.  The tip is designed with dual high-performance rubber contacts to allow for high grip, durability, and feel as you paddle on the pavement.  The tip design provides a slight spring as you transition through the stroke.  Vibration dampening is designed to keep the ride smooth.

What’s it all look like in action? Here you go…

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

Hmmm… just doesn’t seem to blend with the skateboarder image to me. Maybe on a Segway. ;-)

That just seems like a recipe for wiping out…what happens when your big stick gets stuck in a pothole or gutter?? :o

They do seem to be going awfully fast though, so maybe it could work…but you won’t catch me trying one!

I actually picked up one of the big sticks a while ago. I definitely wasn’t sold on it the first time i saw it, but after using it a bit, i started loving it. i live on the base of a mountain and it is totally sick cruising down all the hills with it. using it as a brake probably saved my life a couple times and leaning against the land paddle on all the turns makes longboarding the hills totally fun and chill.
