The iPhone v2.0.2 3G Patch; Thoughts?

Posted on 23 August 2008 by

Wayne sent me an email earlier today with the subject line “Interesting AT&T text urging iPhone update.” Yes indeed; iPhone update v2.0.2 is now available, and it is a chunky beast – approximately 250MB!

As Wayne mentioned in the email’s body, this text message is a good indication that the latest iPhone update was supposed to specifically fix 3G issues.

Has it? Did it? You tell us…

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

I thought it interesting that only the 3G iPhone was mentioned and that I’d never received this type of SMS text from ATT regarding any of my iPhones before.

I loaded the patch last night.

My iPhone 3G never exhibited any issues with AT&T or 3G — so I’m not able to judge whether the patch was any help with signal / reception improvements.

What I have seen so far is my GMAIL no longer hangs (imap retrieval) which it was doing about 1 in 10 times that I checked emails.

It’s still too early to tell if the GMAIL is a permanent improvement or if I’m just having a “good” GMAIL day.
