I have written quite a bit about the Navigon line of GPS devices. I’ve been extremely impressed by the offerings in the past. This latest entry, however, has the potential to complete blow me away. In addition to all of the fantastic features Navigon has offered in the past, they are now introducing Landmark View.
Landmark View3 joins Reality View as part of the unique 3-D interface that Navigon GPS devices have always offered. Landmark View will display hundreds of richly-textured 3D landmarks across the U.S. and Canada like the Empire State Building and the White House.
The new Navigon 7200T is expected to be available in the United States and Canada in October 2008. It will retail for $449.

So this is like the 3D buildings feature on iGo 8 and on the HP 310?

Chris, I have never used the iGo8 or HP310. So, I couldn’t really say how this compares. Basically, the Navigon has hundreds (or more) of landmark buildings in cities across the US, which appear in full 3D view. Pretty cool if you ask me.

So does iGo8 – worldwide (as I imagine the software version of Navigon does too). I use the HP 310 regularly (it’s based on iGo8) and I drove into New Orleans a few weeks ago and noticed it had most of the CBD (downtown) and the French Quarter rendered in 3D buildings.
I suspect all the nav apps/PNAs will be like this is a few years.

That is pretty wile. I am excited to give this Navigon a try. I imagine here in DC, there will be quite an extensive library of buildings. But how well will that work when we visit a smaller city? Like my parent in SC?
