The worst part about the shiny black case is that it shows all oils and scratches very prominetley, and Just So Ya Know i noticed how he was comparing the HTC and the Treo Pro and how there similar. that is becuase the same company is making both of the devices and that is why they are so much alike!!! This was an upgrade from my Treo 650 and i enjoy this much more the keyboard is hard to get used to but once you do it is nice and this has some word recognition which is nice too that way you dont have to spell out every damn word!!!

I currently have this phone i am in Missoula,MT, and have Alltel; i have had to return to the store twice now because i wasnt recieving calls and txt messages and i think it is worked out now. It's probably more from experience that I am so sour on Palm. I had hoped, really hoped that they could make a success of their products but after waiting for Cobalt, and the other operating systems that they were supposed to come out with but never did, it appears to me that they are resting on their "laurels." They had the whole makret practically to them selves; Windows Mobile, at that time, were not a threat, and they let it get away.

Well I won’t disagree with you, and your review was very well written, but the “Tilt,” and even the Iphone get great reception where I am. Obviously I can only report on my experience, and I'm telling you for me the signal on the Treo Pro was leaps and bounds ahead of my Treo 750, which I had a fair bit of signal trouble with.
Just because you don't get good signal where you live, doesn't mean that the phones crap, it could be your carrier.

Ah, but that’s not what you said. Just because YOU get a good signal is no indication that I will. When living where I do, a good signal THERE doesn't mean didly squat HERE.
I have heard the SAME glowing reviews of how good the reception was from previous palm phnes, and have had 3 of them. ALL fell flat on thier faces!
This company makes me very skeptical, I was ONCE very loyal to Palm, but after being burned several times, to the tune that i went through 7 Palm phones because of dropped calls, no calls, and crashes, I simply got tired of their claims and in fact was told by Cingular that thier phoes were the most recalled NOW, they come with another Windows phone. Woo Hoo!

Yes Mitchell I read your review. I have heard how good the reception was on Palm phones before. Mitchell: Having tried most of the WM6 devices out there (iMate, HTC, and HP), the Treo falls in the upper 10% and to me only the keyboard could be labeled as a detractor. As usual Palm came very late to the game in terms of a new WM6 device, but the result is a very solid device that I'm happy to carry.. As far as I'm concerned its a Treo Pro, an iPhone, or a Nokia E71 as the top of the pops at the moment. :-)

Chris: I will buy the screen protector regardless.. Oh ho hum..Palm has introduced another phone
Are they really STILL in business? Why?
New operating system....Nope
Hummmm no external antenna, reception will really be bad.
The comment about lipstick on a pig is priceless!!! And in Palm's case very true.

Yawn……<br

The Treo Pro is good, but there are better alternatives out there, particularly if you look outside the Windows Mobile pool. My only gripe with it is the keyboard, if it had one like the previous model it would be a great device.
Drew: I added Opera Mini (too cheap for Opera Mobile :P), Google Maps (brilliant) and SPB Mobile Shell, this combo worked great for me for filling the gaps. Windows Mobile's implementation of Java is severely lacking though.
GF: It all depends on what you want, the Treo Pro is very good but let down by it's keyboard. There is the Samsung SGH-i780 which I've heard very good things about but haven't tried. Nokia E71 and Blackberry Bold are fabulous if platform isn't too much of an issue.
Chris: The screen is a flexy sort of plastic. My unit didn't have a screen protector on it and didn't pickup any marks whatsoever, but if I was buying one (like all devices I buy, Nokia E71 is a recent example) I'd put a protector on it just in case.

Kevin: I can see where you’re coming from. The reason I ask is because I am planning on ordering a Treo Pro on Monday and I tend to sway towards screen protectors. I put on one my Treo 750, and the protector has a few scratches from being tossed into pockets, bags, etc. that have other things floating around in them. But the only scratches on the screen of my iPod touch are from it having landed face-down on a very dirty and gritty floor, even though it's been in most of the same bags and pockets.

@Mitchell and @TrvlngDrew Would you say the screen *material* is more Treo 750-like or more iPod Touch-like?

The reason I ask is because I am planning on ordering a Treo Pro on Monday and I tend to sway towards screen protectors. >>Sorry Mitchell. For me Palm is doing what you should never do. Put lipstick on a pig.
>>It has nothing going for it over the competition. Not enough reason to try it.
Please tell me which is the best WM device with front QWERTY keyboard.

>>kevinnugent

>>Sorry Mitchell. I have become well adjusted to the keyboard and just sharpened my thumb nails into spikes to faciliate the smaller keys.. :-O
I do like the size as you mention and often put it in my jeans pocket something I have never thought about with any other WM device. So cheers to that...
Curious what software you have added to it and find completely importan to install. I did install the Worldmate Live that was included in the Programs section, and will definitely do eWallet one of these days.. I have a bunch of SPB stuff but it seems a bit redundant.. Guess could use SPB Traveler..
Thanks again and look forward to our American friends waking up and having a peek at your review.. I noticed that Palm US is now shipping at the price you mention.. I want some accessories, like cradle, car charger, case.. Am also wondering if a screen protector makes sense with the new format, it may not.. :-)

Great Review Mitchell!
