What bothers me is that as drives get larger, the tend to fail earlier. I still have under 20 gig drives that are chugging along, where as I've had 2 500 gig drives fail just over the year mark (both western digitals). As a consultant, I created a major "stir" because the application I was designing was going to put one of the major US airlines over 1 TB. The application was going to use 300 gigabytes. In order to be able to bring the additional storage on-line, they had to swap out 33xx series disk enclosures and bring in triple density enclosures because they would run out of floor space. yes, the platters on these disks were the size of LPs.
