WebIS – New Website Offers Early Glimpse of Pocket Informant For iPhone

Posted on 15 October 2008 by

Our friends at WebIS, makers of powerhouse mobile apps like Pocket Informant, Note2Self and FlexMail, have unveiled a brand new website. The big news on the site… details and screen shots of the upcoming Pocket Informant for iPhone.

According to WebIS,

Pocket Informant is The Next Generation in Personal Daily Management, but we don’t just say that; we prove it. Pocket Informant for the iPhone doesn’t just simply let you view your daily events but lets you really work with them. So many calendar or task applications are either too hard to use or too simple to be useful. Pocket Informant takes eight years of mobile experience and brings a fresh perspective to the iPhone user.

PI for iPhone is not yet in Beta but development is well on the way and an initial release shouldn’t be that far off.

Some terrific screen shots and more details can be found after the break…

Among the key features of PI will be…

* Integrated Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, Search

* Full Landscape support

* Over the air sync (1.0 or 1.1 feature – pushing hard for 1.0)

* Journaling (1.1 feature)

* Push Notifications of Alarms

* Over the air sync via Google Calendar and an online task service

Calendar
* Calendar with Agenda, Day, Week, and Month Views
* Time Bars to quickly show your availability
* Quickly Slide between months with your finger
* Zoom into a month
* Drag and Drop Time/Date of appointments

Tasks
* Full Featured Task Management
* Default Smart Groups for All, Overdue, Due Today

Contacts
* Coverflow Contacts
* Picture List of Contacts
* Create Appointments from a Contact

In all, PI for iPhone promises to be a fantastic PIM solution and I, for one, can’t wait to get it!

The new WebIS site, and all the details on PI for iPhone, can be found HERE.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

    Damn.

    I’m definitely all over this.

    I knew that Alex was working hard to figure out a sync solution since Apple has limited access to some aspects of the iPhone that limit “sync-ability” and think using gmail and a web-based task service is a great solution!

    Knowing that PI was being ported to the iPhone was the main thing that prompted me to switch from a WM platform phone. I am SO excited that they are planning on OTA sync with Google Calendar–I’m doing that now via NuevaSync and it’s fantastic. I never have to sync my iPhone unless I’m adding new music or video. I’m SO excited for this program! I just wish they’d hurry up and release it. :-) I wonder who they’ll sync with for the task service…if it’s RTM the geek center of my brain may actually explode.

    Has Apple locked everyone out of Calendar’s database? Why would he need to figure out a separate sync solution? Can’t he use ActiveSync/Exchange Sync; or is he truly locked out of those default databases?

    Chris-
    That is my understanding.
