An eagle-eyed observer at WMExperts points out that the Sprint Treo 850e has shown it’s face (or someone has spoofed their browser) on the DSL Reports web site. They found this tidbit by pouring through public logs of people who use the mobile speed test site to test their phones. The log entry in question shows a Treo 850e coming in on a Sprint connection (the only Treo Pros presently sold by Palm are the GSM unlocked variety and Sprint is a CMDA carrier making it unlikely that this is someone using an unlocked phone on Sprint). Because phones leaves a unique browser identification it is sometimes an indication of product testers stopping by to check out the speed of their new phone. This is also an area that might be ripe for mis-information because browsers can quite easily be spoofed into mis-identifying themselves and causing us all sorts of angst. This is possible good news for those awaiting the introduction of the Treo Pro. Potential bad news for those who bought the Treo 800W thinking the Treo Pro might never appear stateside.

The Treo Pro IS already available in the U.S. and shipping directly from Palm. It’s just not subsidized by any carrier.
They may release one to Palm, but right now the Treo Pro is GSM only and I haven’t seen or heard of any FCC approvals for new Palm units (although sometimes things go by that we don’t always hear about) so I’m not sure how valid this rumour is.

The Palm site sells GSM Treo Pros and the logs that WMExperts had showed the phones coming in via Sprint which is CDMA. I’ll modify the story to make that clearer.

Gotcha. Thought you were making a general comment about the Treo Pro being unavailable in the States.
Having said that, what I said before still holds – I haven’t seen/heard anything yet about FCC approval of a CDMA version of this device. Would be nice for Sprint users though, if it happens! Is it likely though with Sprint about to release the Touch Pro?
