I live about 2 hours from New York City. Making a weekend trip into the city is one of my favorite things to do. Driving into the city is my least favorite thing to do. That’s why I’ll always take the Metro North commuter railroad. The cost is slightly more than what it would cost in gas, but you make it up by not having to pay for parking or fight the absurd city traffic. I just found these instructions that place the entire Metro North rail schedule on your iPhone. This type of remote search is great for planning when you need to be back at Grand Central Terminal in order to catch your return trip — or when the next train leaves to take you into the city. This is a web app – so you only need create a bookmark using these instructions:
1. Open Safari on your iPhone and navigate to ‘http://mta.info’
2. Click ‘Metro-North Railroad’
3. Select your schedule East or West of the Hudson.
4. Click the ‘+’ icon
5. Click ‘Add To Home Screen’Voila, now you can go right to the MTA Metro-North schedule form for your line right from the iPhone’s home screen with one click.

I noticed this page while using a friend’s iPhone last week.
I bookmarked the siteon my WM phone, works fine.
It’s not iPhone specific. It’s just a nicer mobile-friendly formatted page that will work on any phone that can render HTML.

Since I posted that target article, I haven’t really used that feature, since I am always checking the schedules on subways and other places I dont have internet.
So I just launched StationStops for iPhone, which keeps the entire timetable on your iPhone, so you dont need an Internet connection. Just tap the schedule results and it will scroll to the next departing train.
