Here’s a really interesting security product for anyone that has a rental property – or kids who are constantly forgetting and/or losing their house keys. It’s a lock that accepts unique ID codes instead of keys. The codes are entered on a keypad and you never have to connect the lock to a computer or pay any monthly fees. These codes are unique (based on your lock’s serial number) and only valid for a set length of time. After their expiration they can never be re-used. You generate these codes via unique software on your computer. Working in conjunction with the serial number of your lock, the software generates a unique key code which can be used to unlock the door for the period of time you specified when generating the code.
There are two models of ResortLock Available. The base RL 2000 (base) and RL 4000.

Here are some of the features of the RL 4000 model:
- Mortise Latch (Update: Only the cylindrical version is available now – look for Mortise by the end of 2008)
- Remote code generation – up to 4 codes during same time period, unlimited – codes over the year.
- Up to 300 code & ibutton users (combined)
- Set times for lock to Auto Lock/Unlock daily (must be the same for all 7 days of the week).
- Issue one-time use codes for contractors, cleaners, etc.
- Daylight savings mode to adjust for daylight savings time
- One touch lock to quickly lock door once inside
- Lockout functionality
Inside the ResortLock is a computer chip that runs a complex algorithm. This algorithm is able to to compute what the code should be during any given time period. One way to think of it is that the lock is pre-loaded with codes.
For example, if you wanted to give your guest access to your property from Friday at 2:00pm to Sunday at 12:00pm, your lock would already know that the code should be, say, 12345678.
Now you just need something that will tell you (and only you) what your lock already knows
Using Code Generation software (free with RL 4000 + Software Model) on your computer gives access to these features:
-See who and when people are entering your property with Audit Trail allowing you to view up to 4000 door access events.
-Manage many access codes and ibuttons all at once
-Set access schedules for individual users (Ex. Set code 1234 to only have access M-F from 10am – 4pm).
-Set Auto Lock/Unlock function to a different schedule daily (Auto unlock M-F from 9am-6pm). Great for business use!
There are two versions of this lock. The entry level RL 2000 and the RL 4000. A third verison – the RL4000 + software includes the programming software (normally $149 extra).
Here’s a comparison chart of the lock features:

Generating a unique code for your lock is a three step process. Once you have the software on your PC, you enter in the starting date and time for the code to become active. Then enter in the ending date and time. The software automatically generates a unique code that the lock knows is only valid during the time you’ve specified.

The real magic to the Resort Lock lies on the software program which generates the unique unlock codes. This is an ideal solution for anyone who may not be located near their property yet has to remotely provide access to someone for a limited period of time.
These codes could be given to:
- maintenance workers
- housekeepers
- tennants
- house or pet sitters
- kids
- neighbors
