While I started the morning at the closest Walmart, I ended up visiting three different Walmarts thanks to my wife dragging me with her when she went to work today to drop work off.
After I went to my Walmart and got the coat and a gift for my son, I journeyed over to Grove City which is a exit or two away. There’s a large retail complex there with Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Circuit City (this store closing) and other stores. The first store I went to was Target and I snapped up a 750 GB External USB drive from Western Digital for $88.88. What impressed me at Target was it’s line to go in at 6 am. I can easily see why someone was killed today. Well, the line at Target was orderly, if long. MerryMob.com was passing out free cocoa and coffee to those of us waiting in the cold. After the doors opened, it didn’t take long to get things done.
After Target, I went to Circuit City but there was no line and they weren’t open yet. Since this location is one of the ones closing I thought I would go back and check out the deals at the closing sale. They weren’t deals. There may be a few here and there, but nothing to get excited enough to whip out my debit card.
I went to Best Buy and there was a brisk crowd thee, but everyone was in good spirits. I didn’t get anything, but the deals were pretty good.
After Best Buy, I went to Walmart number 2 of the day. This Walmart is one we go to alot. It’s the one we normally do our grocery shopping at. I went digging in the 8 dollar coats and came up with one for my wife. Not a bad deal and not a bad coat for 8 dollars.
I walked over to Staples to check out there deals and almost got a 4 GB SDHC. Staples gave out tickets to their door busters and you had to have one the tickets or you didn’t get the product. This was nice. However, what they should have also put in the ad is what I ended up walking out with instead. As I was heading to the line to get the 4 GB card which was $9.99, I saw a stack of 8 GB SDHC cards for $17.99. This is a decent deal when looking locally so that’s what I got. Works wonderfully in my Eee PC and now when I am just carrying the Eee, I have 16 GB with me.
I checked out HH Gregg and I wish I would have went back to them when making a purchase I will talk about later. HH Gregg which is a regional chain didn’t have that great of deals on tech stuff. Their ad didn’t have any microwaves in it, which is what I picked up a little later today, but then I didn’t plan on getting one of those then!
After this, I headed back. It was 9 am and I was a bit tired and hungry so I went home and got some food and started playing with my storage purchases. Got my Eee PC setup done and my drive partially setup with my SLUG. Then my son reminded me we promised to get him a fish so we piled in the van and went to our local Meijer. They had some good deals earlier and I missed those. They still have them now as they have some really good sales going on the rest of this weekend too. They also have doorbusters tomorrow morning as well. Anyway, we picked a fish and his little bowl out. The fish is a male betta who is blue and his name is Sparta according to Luke!
Back to get the fish in it’s home and then my wife decided it was time to go to work and she wanted to drag me along which is the real truth to how I felt. I was then and still am totally exhausted. So since the wife demands it, we all piled into the van and went to Best Buy Number 2 for me in this day and Walmart number 3. Luckily all we did was do some grocery shopping and bought a replacement microwave as ours had gone to microwave heaven. The lines of earlier in the day were gone, but there were still a few doorbusters leftover. They may put a time period on it, but most stores, I have found, will honor the door buster price as long as they have the product. Walmart does this for sure as I picked up one of their Black Friday door busters weeks laster last year. So keep lookin for those door busters even after the door buster period is done.
Finally, we’re back at home and I am exhausted; it’s a good exhaustion though!
So some might ask, why do I do this every year? Well I am always the one who loves to see movies with the crowd on opening night. Going to a place with lots of people doesn’t phase me at all. I guess the real reason may be the camradrie you ca build with our shopping mates when waiting in line. I love this as I get stories from years past plus we usually talk about what we came for. Plus on days like yesterday, the people I run into all seem to be in a great mood and are just fun to be around. So will I wait in line for that $200 dollar 40 inch flat panel next year ( you laugh….it probably will happen)? Well, if there is one of those deals, I’ll be the first in line!
