Update: Our contest is now closed and a winner will be announced shortly; thank you for all of the fabulous comments that you left, and please remember that there are still other sites which haven’t even started their give-aways yet…so if you didn’t win, don’t despair!
The first winner notification email was sent out at 12:39 am CST, December 12. The countdown begins…Check your email and SPAM trap!!
We have a winner! Corrine has responded, and I will be shipping her prizes (hopefully) today!
The day you all have been waiting for is here: we can finally reveal the steps which must be taken to enter Gear Diary’s HP Magic Giveaway. Let’s first go over what’s at stake: approximately $6,000 in HP goodness, inside seven never-before-opened boxes containing the following…
[In order to send you brand new and unopened goodies, we are linking to other participating site's reviews and unboxing videos where they are available.]
• HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC
• HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC: See impressions on the HDX 18 here, and watch a video unboxing here.
• HP MediaSmart Connect: watch an unboxing video here
• HP Pavilion dv4 series Entertainment Notebook PC (with Windows Live)

• Kung Fu Panda (2 widescreen DVDs; 1 widescreen Blu-ray disc)
*****
Now gather ’round and listen up: We want everyone who would like to enter to have a true shot at winning, so our contest will involve answering a series of questions and performing a few tasks. If you can follow directions, then you can win.
Your reply in this thread’s comments section will be your entry, and the winner will be chosen at random from entrants who have answered the questions and fulfilled the tasks we set forth. For the sake of simplicity when judging, please put all of the requirements together in ONE entry / comment.
Ready? Let’s get started.
First, you must register so that you can leave a comment on this site. If this is the first comment you have ever left, it will be moderated. Don’t freak out if it doesn’t post right away, and don’t leave a second comment; I will approve your entry / comment ASAP.
In ONE comment, you must answer these three questions, and post links to prove that you have fulfilled the two required tasks:
1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
2. What made the gift special?
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Next, complete the following tasks and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.
- Twitter the following and include a link proving that you did it:
“I promise that I will make a difference in someone’s life if I win: http://tinyurl.com/6j2yml”
- Post a picture of your current desktop or laptop on Flickr (or your personal blog), and include a link back to that picture in your comment / entry. You do not need to be in the photo, but I’ll be even more impressed with your entry if you are.
That’s all there is to it.
*****
The not-so-small-print, AKA “the RULES”:
1. We will be awarding everything to one person.
2. The winner is encouraged to spread the magic by sharing their prize. I am not going to tell you how to do it or with whom, but if you would like me to ship one or two of the prize items to someone anywhere in the world, I will be happy to do so…and HP’s covering it!
3. Anyone, anywhere in the world, is welcome to enter. HP will cover worldwide shipping and any associated US income taxes.
4. If you have already won one of the HP Magic Giveaways on another site, you are not eligible to win again on Gear Diary.
4. Winner will be chosen at random, by me; there will be no whining. If you don’t win here, keep trying on the other sites!
5. We will announce that there is a winner by Midnight PST on December 10th. I will actually be choosing three – read on to see why…
6. Put judie @ geardiary .com in your address book NOW. I will email the winner shortly after choosing one, and if I have not heard from him or her within 24 hours (I will post the time when the first email is sent), I will email the next person on my list. Don’t suffer remorse for the rest of the holidays and all of 2009 because your SPAM filter ate my email!!!
7. Winner agrees to send us a short follow-up post (300 words or less) with a picture within 30 days, so that we can post on how the hardware was distributed. If you don’t want your real name to be used, then it is quite all right. This is mainly so that people can see that a real person won, but sharing lovely stories about giving portions of the package to deserving people or organizations will definitely earn you some “awwww”s and kudos in the comments. We love happy endings; please be willing to share yours!!
8. The Gear Diary Team and past contributors are not eligible to win, neither are members of their families. Sorry guys and gals, it just wouldn’t look right.
You have roughly one week to get your entry in…get busy!!

Oooo. So excited.
1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Surprisingly enough, it was a magazine. It was a Vogue magazine. From my mother in the fourth grade, when I could substantially read it, well.
2. What made the gift special?
I probably didn’t know it at the time, but it has lead me into my career I plan on having in the very near future. I had decided that year in the fourth grade to become a fashion designer. I had loved the thought of being an author as well, and I keyed in on the layout and how things were developed in the magazine. Throughout the years until now (I am a junior in high school), I’ve been in between a culture journalist and a fashion designer. But, I officially realized at the end of my freshman year, when I was officially set to be apart of the yearbook committee the next year, that I could pursue both design and journalism. Both aspects that would be in a magazine.
Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My father.
My father was the one who had always supported my ability to write, interview and have a personal opinion not swayed by others. He’s been aiming for a personal notebook for himself, but with incidents coming up in the past few years, it just was not possible. He’s always talking about how he’d love to have something to take with him, to show his presentations, to make quick charts and email when he DOES remember something.

1. I guess the best gift I received from someone else would have to be when my parents bought me my first bicycle way back when.
2. We had no video games or computers back then so a bicycle was a big deal indeed. My parents never had much money so it really was a special gift.
3. I would give a laptop, netbook and the printer to my Sister’s kids. My sister and her husband have been going through some financial troubles lately and Christmas is looking very bleak. I’m sure this would put a smile on their faces as well as my Sister and her husband.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Life and love from my parents
2. What made the gift special?
There is no special reason for everyone to say this is the best gift….but it is the best gift anyone ever receives..
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I use 2 laptops for my village. Most of the people know basics of the computers. Many people have poor economic background and they want to study and reach a good position. These laptops can be very useful for them where they can use it freely anytime. I will also get the Internet connection for them which will be much more useful for the students. And also our institute has a very good service, e-Sagu: An IT based Personalized Agricultural Extension System, for farmers. Most of the farmers in our village can access this service using these laptops. It will be of great use for the farmers and the students.
In brief, I will use the 2 laptops i) to familiarize the village people in using computers and internet, ii) to provide the training freely (this may take some time to regularize) iii) to provide free e-mail fecilities for the people who have their relatives staying outside the village(mostly abroad and longer distance) and some other services totally freely.
The above idea have been in my mind for a long time. But as I can’t afford to buy the required accessories alone, I have been waiting for funds from my friends to implement the above. Currently I am studying…so I am not able to buy the computers…Adding to the above laptops I will try to collect some funds from my friends and buy some more accessories to make it successful.
And I will use the remainig package for my research work and entertainment while also using them for the 2nd cause when needed.

1. The best gift I have received is a ring from my grandfather shortly before he died.
2. It is special because of the sentimental value it has to me.
3. I would only keep the HDX laptop as it would support my work well, and one of the Office licenses. Everything else in the package would be donated to Cherry Gardens Primary School for the school’s children to use. The school is very poor so it’d be nice to replace their outdated facilities.

Hi guys! Thank you for this opportunity!
The best gift I have ever received was a little racing track with remote controlled cars. I think I was about 5 or 6 years old. It was a Christmas present from my parents. It really remained in my memory because at that time it was something really awesome and also because from a more present point of view I know that my folks really struggled to buy it. And that is called sacrifice. They could have bought something more useful but they wanted to make me happy. And they really did. It was a knock-off surprise.
The Christmas present would be shared like this:
- 1 laptop for my crazy-for-advertising-with-a-very-slow-pc-for-rendering-prints girlfriend (she is very talented, but her pc is so slow that her ideas are somewhat tortured by the time she loses with rendering); you can see one of her works here. She really puts passion in what she does and I really think that a new laptop (a powerful one actually) will help her to follow her dream.
- 2 laptops for two friends of mine who can’t afford one. We are part in a students’ programming team currently involved in a project that aims to build an open-source online platform for our University, at first, and then to distribute it to all universities that could make use of it. It should ease the tasks for professors, students and secretaries, building an online collaboration environment that would keep track of courses, schedules, official papers, etc. The fact that these 2 friends/colleagues of mine don’t afford buying laptops makes it so hard to write code while in the same study room and this really affects the code quality since the communication must be done using emails or chat rooms.
- I would like to replace my old desktop, so I guess I would keep that one for me.
- The media center would be a great gift for my parents and it sure would be a surprise to both of them. They both like to watch movies and listen music, so this would be just perfect. I wish I could buy them one if I don’t win…
You see, creativity comes in many shapes: whether it’s about an advertorial print or some code that translates into an useful application, it’s all about creating and touching people’s minds in different ways. Talent without support is a lost cause. And this prize is the support one could have. It’s a start-up for my girlfriend’s career and necessity for my two friends/colleagues (we study Computer Science; pretty ironical…).
As for me, it would make my Christmas happier. But the real joy will be to see the smile on their faces and to know that I shared a great prize with people who deserve it.

best gift.
I run a big kitchen, for a charity, I have corporate volunteers come in who want to help people, when we do big meals. I had in one corporate group some managers from Campbell’s soup. I made them blend a 120 litre pot of pumpkin soup with a domestic food processor. About six weeks later i got a large box wrapped in gold paper, inside was

Special.
I have many volunteers come through my kitchen every year, but to have volunteers come in and see the value of th work we do and try to make it easier, is actually a reinforcement of my own mission

I don’t really need any of this stuff, but where I work could use it, and in one way, we could set up a person that comes in and utilises the learning centre that we are building, with the gear they need to go on to study.

The best gift I have ever received (in retrospect, I suppose) is an education. My parents, both being educators themselves, place great value in knowledge. Thankfully, they also place great value in me, thereby ensuring that I have become the person I am today, which makes them, and myself, proud. Thereby, through coincidence I suppose, I am also grateful for my first name, Onur, which means `pride` in Turkish.
If we are, however, talking about material posessions, I suppose the greatest gift I have received is my desktop computer, an amalgam of bits and pieces that have served me tremendously since 2002. I owe part of my being in a PhD. program in film to that mess of wires and silicon.
Upon winning, I hope to set up the Touchsmart desktop to be able to record music with my housemate, thereby giving it to him (as it will serve his thesis in Film much better than mine), the photography package will be awarded to my girlfriend thereby preventing any further nagging as to how she wants a camera, the Mediasmart Connect will go to my parents as they have more time to watch TV than I do, the Mini 1000 will probably replace my HP tx2000z tablet as my daily traveller, while the tablet will complement the home studio of my housemate. The HDX will also be given to my parents, as they have an aging desktop at home that barely allows them to watch DVDs on a 15 inch screen. The dv4 will go specifically to my father, to complement his ever-developing digital photography, allowing him to send us the magnificent pictures of his weekend travels.

Firstly, thanks to you,HP & to other participating sites for this opportunity.
1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else ?
Answer :- I can still remember when i was on the 4th standard & got a story book as a prize for being first in my class.
2. What made the gift special ?
Answer :- It was my first gift in my life. So, it certainly will remain as a very special moment/gift in my life.It always feels great when you get recognized for your work. This prize ceremony was so very special for me.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win ?
Answer :- I would like to share my prize with our organization ” Arushi ” (http://www.arushi-india.org/) which means “The first ray of the sun”.This organization strives to integrate people with disabilities into the mainstream of society.
I already do have a computer & i seriously don’t need another.I would like to keep the Printer with me & let our organization decide how they will share the computers among the kids.We don’t have enough computers here in Arushi.Around 150 kids are sharing 10 old desktops. So, it would be highly helpful for us if they can get to use more computers.I wish if i could fulfill their small needs, but i can only do to a certain level.Anyways, every bit helps.
I hope you feel that Arushi is deserving.

1. Best gift was a cash gift of $1500 from a friend of ours when our first son was born
2. it was special because it helped us out very much, it was totally unexpected and just very, very nice of him to do it, I was just amazed at his generosity to us at a time when we needed it and no one else was there to help us, but he was
3. Share with? I’d like to donate probably everything to the DayCare/Pre-School that provides care for my youngest child, they’ve taken care of all 3 of my children, they are all very nice to them and they learn quite a bit there. I feel safe knowing my child is there, I know the teachers, they’re almost like family at this point. They do have computers there but they’re old, donations from others, and I would love to give this stuff to them to help them out and of course the children as well. I really think the children will greatly benefit from these products from HP.

1 The best gift I ever received from someone else was a plane ticket from my mother while I was stationed in Misawa, Japan in the Air Force.
2 I hadn’t seen my family or friends for over 2 years and she purchased me a round trip ticket home for Christmas one year. Although the gift was expensive, being able to see my family and friends again really helped me overcome the separation and gave me what I needed to finish my enlistment and tour of Japan.
3 I would share a portion of the prize package with my family, especially my mother and sister. We do all we can to help each other and if one benefits, we all benefit. I see no reason why they should not share in prize package. It is too much for one person alone to win so dividing the package up makes perfect sense.

1: Favorite Gift
My favorite gift of all time and the one that made me happy the most was this PC I’m using right now. Ever since around ‘05, I’ve been collecting money to be able to afford the ‘ultimate PC’ so to speak.. at that time I thought I’d simply be upgrading my existing PC. I had enough money to get the nVidia 8800 GTX GPU and a copy of Windows Vista, only to discover soonafter that the GPU requires a PCI-e and much more power that my PSU had. Since that was a few weeks before my birthday, my father surprised me by actually ‘complementing’ the rest of the PC so that it’d work with what I had purchased earlier.
2: Why was it so special
It was a very pleasant surprise that showed how much my parents cared. Not to mention, finally being able to use (what used to be) the best GPU out there.. try DX10 for the first time.. on such a magnificent machine was amazing. Mainly though, the surprise element and the gesture itself of having my parents go through the effort of buying such machine (especially during different “internal financial” problems at that time) brought great joy to me.
3: How Will I Share the Prize:
Since I have a PC which I am satisfied with, I will be giving one away to organizations and another as a ‘thank you’ for my parents.
A PC and a NoteBook will go for the Jordanian Society for Protection from Family Violence (JSPFV), a non-profit organization which my parents are involved with. Since they’re in need of equipment, I’ll be giving away a PC and notebook to them.
The TouchSmart will be kept at home and probably be hooked with the TV. Since I’ll leave to college, it would be great entertainment to my parents when the house becomes empty. To college, I’ll take one of the notebooks to stay connected with family and friends.
I’ll give a copy of VideoStudio to a friend who’s serious about movie making, creating short movies for the Jordan River Foundation regarding poverty, war, etc.
I’ll give a copy of Kung Fu Panda for my a friend of mine, a cartoon freak who hadn’t got a chance to watch it yet.

The best gift I ever received was a sperm whale candle (don’t laugh) from my father. He had gotten it for me at Walt Disney World while Mom and I were in another section of the store – after I had drooled over it forever. That was about… oh, 30+ years ago, and I still have it, in pristine condition, on my bookshelf. My father never did things like that on his own, so it was special that he noticed how badly I wanted it, and took the initiative to buy it on his own.
I plan on sharing my prize with a no-kill pet shelter in our area – their equipment is pretty darn old.
I hope I”m going this rest of this correctly – I’m a novice!!!!!
http://twitter.com/10DogMom
And I didn’t put me in the computer photo – I put one of our twelve rescue dogs with it. Her name is ChiChi and she was found loose near one of the lakes around here – no one ever claimed her, so she lives with us now in her “furever” home…

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Definitely this would have to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles II: The Arcade Game for the original NES.
2. What made the gift special?
It was special because I remember wanting that game for months–literally months–before Christmas, then finding out how expensive it was and not thinking I would actually get it. But on Christmas day, addressed to my brother and I, was TMNT II. It was like Heaven.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would share this prize with a local charity in Sacramento, the WIND Youth Center. More information can be found here: http://www.windyouth.org

1. The best gift I ever recieved was Finale Printmusic 2008, which is a music composing program. I have used it ever since, composing music for full orchestra!
2. I love to compose music. It’s my favorite thing to do, besides design roller coasters. This made it much better to compose music for full orchestra, and to be able to hear the music, print it out, and save as an mp3 or WAV file!
3. If I were to win, I would share the Entertainment Notebook with my two younger sisters. I would give a lot of the other things away to families in our neighborhood who are struggling financially. I would keep the Premium Notebook, and the Touchsmart would be for my family.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else. One of my husband’s best friend’s wife gave me this gift: She took me to the Olive Garden for lunch, we had a glass of wine and then we were off to the spa for an afternoon of pampering…it was just pure bliss. I have never received anything like this before and from a person that really cared about me.
2. What made the gift special? She new my family and I had been going through some really rough times (financially) and thought that I could use a day at the spa with her.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? I would share two computers, DVDs, 2007 licenses and so forth with two other families that are in the same situation financially as I am. I would then (after upgrading my equipment) would donate my printer, computer, etc. to our local ministry service that teaches the homeless how to work a computer. I have many plans and I could actually end up giving more, but nothing beyond this is set in stone yet…It could well end up being more!

1 Best Gift…
We found out that we were picked to adopt our son.
2. Why…
We were not able to have children and we had been waiting 6 years for this event happened and it finally did!
3. How will I share it…
Our son is autistic and his classroom uses computers to help them communicate, write, etc. Their equipment is VERY out dated and I am planning on surprising them with some new equipment.

1. The best gift I have ever received from someone is a Leather wallet from my girlfriend.
2. It was on my 24th birthday and it was special because I didn’t expect anything from anyone because I have no friends or family around me because I work in a foreign country. She threw me a surprise party and I was full of joy. No one has ever made me feel so happy.
3. To be honest, I will be sharing it with my family and friends because I have not plans of getting them anything for Christmas. These are hard times and there are thousand who are financially crippled like me. Most of my family and friends are in Africa. Except my girlfriend who is in college here in Taiwan, that i will probably give one of the notebooks.
I wish everyone luck. I don’t expect to win cos am not a very lucky person.

I am an international student from China.
1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Books which help to prepare tests.
2. What made the gift special?
In China we don’t have Christmas and since the financial situation, my family doesn’t have birthday party or gifts. So no “amazing” presents for me for about 20 years. Just those books handed down from my cousin as “gifts”. Although they were used, they help me get in to college and now I continue my studying in US.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I think 4 people. Me, because I need one to take note in class.
My host who treat me really well, he definitely need one.
Rhonda, a 40+ lady who self-study language. She bought an expensive software but her computer is too old to run it. I think it’s Win 98 or 2000.
Jack, a 3 years old boy who want to learn Spanish.
I cannot give you exact detail, since I don’t even know what I can do with this amazing gift. And I can decide later which belong to which person.
Thank you so much.
Hope you have an wonderful Christmas.

2. What made the gift special?
My daughter put alot of time and effort into each envelope. They each represented a different memory she had.

I would give a computer to my dad. He doesn’t know how to use one, but I would take the opportunity to teach him myself!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else? The best gift I’ve ever recieved was my 1997 Manchester United scarf that I got from my grandparents.
2. What made the gift special? Well, it was a gift after my grandparents had been in Manchester on a holiday. It was this scarf that made me begin to watch football. After watching some games I got to like it, at a young age of 5, and I began playing football myself. I’m still and will forever be a Manchester United supporter, and a football fan. I’m not playing anymore because of too much school, but I still watch every United game that goes, and I find it relaxing. I’m studying for a computer engineering education and to get a moment away from school and stress, I have my weekly match to watch out with friends. It’s now one of my passions, and I got my dear grandparents to thank that for.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
If I win this contest, I would like to have the netbook to use at school since it doesn’t take much space or add weight to my backpack. But though I want a new computer, I feel that my mother needs one more. She’s about 50 now and isn’t the quickest learner. I’m trying to learn her how to use a computer to order, write emails, watch movies/listen to music and such, but it’s going slowly. I feel that if she could get a Touch-based computer it may be easier to learn, because it’s more interactive and she’ll be more “connected” with what she’s doing on the screen. She currently has an old setup of spare parts from my dads home office. That’s the computer I mostly use too, so the picture below is from my mothers reading room =). Then there’s my dad who’s always said that he would like to learn how to edit the homevideos from my childhood, where the VideoStudio comes handy. And my sister just started working with some management(ordering, doing the budget) in a small store, so I know she really would love a laptop(which could be the hp pavilion) and office to be able to do this on the train home from work, so she could leave earlier. Then I guess my brother could get the printer and photo value pack, since his old multifuncitonal has started to make some noises he said. And the DVD to my new adoptive first cousin who’s 4 year old and from Colombia. And to give something to my grandmother who is still in good shape, I would like to offer her the HDX computer. It’s a big laptop, but with that she can watch dvds and blurays to my cousing and get to learn how to send emails to us in the family and her friends. The BluRay I guess I would want to keep for myself to see how blu-ray works with the new computer since I may want to try out the touchsmart once in a while, hehe.
This year I would like to get the all some good gifts. I don’t currently have time for a job, so my christmas budget is enough to a DVD to my brother, sister, mom and dad, hehe.

The best gift I ever received was from my son for mother’s day. It was a mustard yellow t-shirt with a big red “S” (like the Superman logo) and said “Super Mom.” He was nine, almost ten when he gave it to me. What made the gift special was that he was with my mother and they walked by a t-shirt shop. He saw the sign about a special shirt for mother’s day, and he said that he wanted to get one for me. My mother agreed to buy the shirt for him and they went in and picked it out. Mom knew my shirt size, and he picked out the color and what he wanted it to say. I wore that shirt proudly for a long time, and it still hangs in my closet, rather worn and faded. I’ll always treasure that shirt because it was something my child did just for me with no prompting what so ever. The older he gets (he is now 16), the more I’ll treasure it.
As for the HP Giveaway, I would give the computers to my employer as well as several nonprofit organizations that my employer works with. I work for a nonprofit organization that is funded through grants and contracts for the federal government. One grant works with students to help them stay in school, graduate high school, and go on to college. Another grant has us partner with 10 other nonprofit agencies that serve youth. We help these other agencies increase their capacity and better themselves so that they in turn are better able to serve the area youth and help prevent teen and gang violence. Money is extremely tight and we are not able to replace old, worn, outdated equipment when necessary. It is just as bad if not worse for some of our partnering nonprofit agencies. We were fortunate enough to replace some equipment for some partners, but there are a couple who still need some assistance. The only thing I would keep would be the media smart connect, and that would only be because I would be the only one who would know how to use it and have the equipment at home that I could use it with.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
To date, my Dell Latitude c840 laptop I received from my Dad as a back to school present in fall of 2003.
2. What made the gift special?
The fact that I have been wanting a laptop for years prior to that and always pleaded to my dad to get one for me, but he was always insisted they are just not powerful enough yet. With endless pleading, daydreaming and looking at Dell ads for laptops in pc magazines he told me in summer of 2003 that he was going to get me one. In September of 2003, he called and said I should stop by his office, he has a paper he want typed (I often help him type his word documents because he wasn’t so good on the keyboard). When I arrived, I saw a Dell leather bag on the lounge chair in his office waiting. What also made it special is, strengthend my appreciation and thankfulness and I have laptop to this day.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My family is definitely at the top of the list, but I would like to point out my church as a definite candidate to share in some of this wonderful package. If I were to win all this hardware I would share some of the gifts with St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church, Cross Keys which has been a significant contributor to this small community in South Manchester. Serving not only the spiritual aspects of its congregation but providing a foundation for families and the youth with a Basic School constructed in 2005. A Youth Club program was started in 1997 and has been consistent ever since by providing opportunities for local Youth through social activities such as sports, summer schooling and trips. A non-profit organization such as my church does not have the resources to invest in state of the art technology, so giving them some of the package would be a significant contribution I believe in helping out the church technology wise. Other parts of the package would be shared with my two older brothers. This collection of devices is screaming, show the good in you, so why not make the ’smart’ choice of sharing the magic too? Thanks!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else:
My laptop, she came to my hands in October, this year
2. What made the gift special?
It was unbelievable. I had a regular Desktop PC, and my laptop changed my computing life. Now I enjoy and use a lot more the computer
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
With my local library, which is passing through a crisis time, they may need one of these. The Office software, I would give it to my school, they shoul upgrade. And I would make a raffle, and give the money gained to charity.

1. The best gift I have ever received was my water-baby doll when I was 5. Silly, I know.
2. It had that ‘baby-smell’, I could take it into the bath with me, it had its own pacifier/bottle, and Santa spent a lot of time picking it out just for me (including using my own favorite colors on his outfit). This was the year that I also got a baby sister, and having my own water-baby doll made me feel less left out and I was able to ‘participate’ in helping with the real baby because my parents showed me how to properly treat my water-baby first.
3. I would give a laptop to my friend Rob, the mini to my (no longer a baby) sister, the touchsmart, printer, and kung fu panda dvd to my mom, and the rest I would give out to other people, keeping only a laptop for myself to use when I move to Pittsburgh to teach in a public middle school.

1. The best gift I ever received was the gift of my education. I bet this sounds really corny but it was my best gift and I’ll explain what I mean. Before I went to college my parents told me I would have to pay for college myself. I didn’t know what to do because I had a job, but it didn’t pay that well. I really wanted to go to a certain college but I realized it would be too expensive. So I started to look at state schools instead. Then my parent surprised me one night and told me they would pay for my schooling so I would be able to go to the school I really wanted to.
2. This gift was so special because I could tell how much my family knew I wanted to go to that school and how much they cared about my future. It was such a surprise when they said they would pay for my education and it gave me the best feeling.
3. If I were to win this prize I would share the gifts with my family, specifically my parents. I haven’t been able to pay back my parents for helping me with my education so I would love to share these gifts with them. There computers are very old and have chosen not to upgrade until I get out of college, so it would be great if I could help them upgrade sooner.

1. The best gift I ever received – my first bicycle
2. What made it special – My parents let me know that they trusted me enough to have my own mode of transportation, and I got my first taste of independence.
3. I am hoping to win this contest so that I can donate the laptops to our neighborhood school’s robotics club. They are a bunch of 2nd graders starting out using Lego Mindstorms. However, you need computers to program them, and the only computer they have is the instructor’s personal laptop that he brings in. It takes quite a long time to get everything done, and 2nd graders aren’t known for their patience having to wait their turn to use the computer. Having a few more would certainly make a huge improvement in their lives. And the instructor wouldn’t have to risk his personal computer:)

The best gift I ever won from someone:
My girlfriend (to whom I have plans of wedding) once made me a book.
What made the gift special?
She prepared it for more than two months, and included things that I didn’t even remember, both good and bad. It did well for sticking us closer yet. It had poems, drawings, book quotes, illustrated lyrics, rainy days, and sunflowers.
If I were to won this prize, I would share it with:
My girlfriend, who’s becoming a Biology teacher and will need a notebook to prepare her lessons and organize tests and teachers stuff.
My little cousins, one of which has toxoplasmosis. He is 7 yrs old, and don’t see things very clearly, so he likes big colored stuff on TV. I’m giving them the movie
My church, in which I’m a teenagers teacher, I’ll give one notebook. We need one to project slides and lessons on the wall, and to organize our meetings and planning.
The victims of Santa Catarina’s floods (http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WO.....index.html). I will donate the media center to them, to help rebuild their home. Several places in my country are helping, so I should help them too.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
I recieved a 100 slot CD holder from my girlfriend (now wife) when
I was in college. Meant a ton to me.
2. What made the gift special?
We were just starting to date and it was the first gift she gave me.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would share it with a local family doc here in Michigan. He works
hard and most of the people in this state are falling on pretty tough
times (not that it isn’t so in other parts of the country). He gives
away a lot of services and I know this would help with his organization.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My girlfriend (future wife) made me a book once.
2. What made the gift special?
The book she wrote / draw / paint had a lot of our story together, both good and not-so-good. There was a poem, illustrated lyrics, sunflowers (my girlfriend favorite flowers), rainy days, charles chaplin, shakespeare, drawings of ourselves (she’s a good painter), and a lot of stuff that made me love her even more!
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My girlfriend, who’s becoming a Biology teacher and will need a notebook to prepare her lessons and organize tests and teachers stuff.
My mother-in-law, who’s a photographer. I’ll give her the printer and photo Pack, that will help her do her job and print her shots at home.
My little cousins, one of which has toxoplasmosis. He is 7 yrs old, and don’t see things very clearly, so he likes big colored stuff on TV. I’m giving them the movie.

To myself, I will take the other notebook and desktop computer. I’m coursing Computer Engineering and as you can see from the picture, my computer is quite old (has to live without the case so it doesn’t heat too much) and don’t meet the minimum requirements for simulating and programming.

1. The best gift I ever received? Probably when my mother-in-law cleaned my house and made dinner for my homecoming from having our first baby.
2. I’ve received lots of beautiful gifts, including the hand-made cross-stitched birth announcements she made for each grand baby, but I’ve never felt so loved and pampered as I did that day. It was so thoughtful and unexpected, not to mention appreciated.
3. There are two local families who had recent house fires: one lost everything and has 6 home schooled kids; the other is a struggling single mom with MS. I would love to be able to give each of them a new laptop to help replace a small part of what they’ve lost. It’s an amazing feeling being able to give something significant to someone completely out of the blue. I’d love to be a part of that. I would like to donate the blue ray player, movies and the media smart connect to one or more local charitable organizations, though I’d have to research their needs first. I would like to give a laptop to my college-bound son as well. The only items I’d like to keep for myself are the desktop computer, since my old one is slowly dying, the printer, and perhaps some of the software.

1. The best gift that I have ever received was the love and forgiveness that God has showed me.
2. It is so special because it not only relieved me of the guilt & shame of my sin, my Heavenly Father has continued to demonstrate His love for me for more than 40 years! As a result, I have dedicated my life to ministering to others. I am the pastor of a very small congregation but my website (http://chiefshepherd.net) is focused on ministry & through it, I have been blessed to minister to people all over the world. When I was preaching in Africa, I came into contact with the person that I would like to share this prize with…
3. I have a friend in Butembo, D.R. Congo who is the pastor of a great church and the founder of a Ministry Training Center. He does not have a computer now so I want to present him with some tools to better enable his ministry.

The best gift I have ever received was a toy plane from my father
2. What made the gift special?
What made the gift special was that it was from someone I care about.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I’m from Dominica it’s a small Caribbean island located in the Caribbean Sea. If I was to win I would surely put such prizes to great use, firstly I would give away the HP TouchSmart PC to our local Alpha Center a school for mentally challenged children, I’m sure they would put the TouchSmart to good use by using it in the learning process there. Secondly I would also give away the HP Pavilion to our local library a new computer is of great need since the computers they have now are outdated and slow. Thirdly I would also give away the HP Mini to a local Grammar School new computers are always needed since they are the largest secondary school on the island. I would also give away the HP Photosmart printer and HP 564 Photo Value Pak to the main hospital located on the island, also the DVD of Kung Fu Panda is sure to bring excitement to the children in the hospital. Also for the software that comes along I would also give it away to the other schools on the island in an attempt to help them with the technology fields in each school. The HP MediaSmart Connect is wonderful but on the island we do not have any form of HD devices so I am sure it would greatly benefit someone on your site who is willing to accept it.

1.) homemade card that my friend made for me! It was awesome and I still have it to this day.

3.) I would give the mini to my niece and the pavillion to my my nephew. My dad would get the hdx and I’d keep the touchsmart for myself! It would be the best christmas ever by far. haha

The best gift I ever received is my wife’s Love for me, because of our faith.
It’s so special because it’s a Love only for me, until we have kids…then our Love grows.
I plan on sharing the prize with her and her family, as they could use some new computers.

1) In my mind is our new bed now. We got it as early christmas present.
2) Waking up without back pain makes a lot of difference in life.
3) I would give one laptop to my brother whose old laptop seems like it’s breaking up. One laptop would go to my friend who needs one or to my parents to replace their aging desktop. I would give most of the other stuff to my family and friends to cheer their holiday.

The best gift I ever received was a stereo receiver from my father.
It was special because my parents never surprise me with anything; I usually tell them what I want and they buy it, so I was genuinely surprised. It was something I wanted but never mentioned it to him. But of course, I had to find six speakers to go with it lol.
If I win, I would share the prize package with my family and the high school I went to. I remember the days of having to wait in line in the library to use the computers that would crash as soon as I logged on.

1) The best gift that I have ever received from someone was my laptop. The smile on my face when I was given it was a picture!
2) It was special because it was a surprise and I knew nothing about it. Oh and it was my first ever computer.
3) If I was to win I would share the prize with the friend that gave me my first laptop as a Christmas present. Showing them how much I appreciated it. I would probably give them the HDX or TouchSmart.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
- Una amiga que quiero mucho, me regalo un boleto que yo no podia comprar, para el concierto de Shakira, artista a la que admiro mucho, en México D.F.
A friend that I want much, I give a ticket that I could not buy, for the concert of Shakira, artist to whom I admire much, in Mexico D.F.
2. What made the gift special?
- Fue el primer concierto al que asisti, la primera vez que mire en vivo a Shakira y el regalo repentino del boleto para el concierto con el que tambien
pude estar cerca de mi amiga.
It was the first concert to that I attended, the first time that Shakira watches live and the sudden gift of the ticket for the concert with which also I could be near my friend.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Doubtless with my friend, at the moment we shared many things and we become flatteries, reason why without doubting in a while it would share it with her, already that at the moment the distance separates and a serious computer to us the ideal means to be but close.
On the other hand also I have glided to donate equipment to the organization Teleton of Mexico (www.teleton.org.mx) that is at the moment in collection campaign and
where to much people who help to a computer serious him disinterestedly helpful.
Suerte a todos y saludos desde México!

1. The best gift I ever received from someone else was a Playstation 3.
2. What made the gift so special is the fact that I had been saving up for it and working in very simple student jobs, to save up for it.
My uncle knew I wanted it and noticed that I was working hard for it and gave me one for Christamas last yearl. I was so happy.
3. I would share the prize with Para los Niños, which is a non-profit organization here in La Paz, Bolivia, which gives shelter to the homeless kids, they really need computers since they don’t have much access to a computer. It would really help them update their website and communicating easier with people overseas. You can see their website here: http://www.boliviaparalosninos.org/

1.) The best gift I’ve ever received from someone else was an electronic picture frame from my girlfriend with pictures of us so that she’d always be with me, even when we were apart.
2.) The reason it was special was because it gave us a way to be together even when away from each other. I keep it on every night when I’m working and she’s not there.
3.) I would donate part of the prize to the Darfur foundation to help survivors of the genocide. Any help we can give is better than no help at all!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My ring that my partner gave me for my 30th birthday. (even though it doesn’t mean what people think it means!)
2. What made the gift special?
It was from the woman I love and a complete surprise!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
An Angel Tree Topper, for my Confirmation.
2. What made the gift special?
The Person that gave it to me, it was a friend’s mom (who is really like a second mother to me) and the fact that I could tell it was truly a gift from her heart, because she could not make it to the occasion because she lives in another state.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
To my brother in law Matt. He and my sister just got married and their financial situation is tight. He needs a new computer, (He was recently laid off and would like to become a self employed Graphic Artist). I believe a new computer will help his new career and better help their income

1. When I graduated from college last year, the juniors made all of us these wonderful collages on wine bottles. The collages had pictures of my friends and I throughout the years.
2. It was really special to me because it was very difficult to leave that place and start out in “the real world”, as we all say. I keep it on my bookshelf as a constant reminder of where I’ve been and where I’m going.
3. If I were to win, I would give my mother and stepfather in Louisiana one of the new computers because theirs crashed and my stepdad was recently laid off from his job. I would give another one of the computers to my dad and stepmom here in Georgia because the computer they have now was bought at a refurbishment place for $150. I would give another computer, the printer, and the media connect to my fellow interns at the theater that I work at because we’re all just starting out in our careers and it’d be nice to share that with someone to help them along. I’d give Kung Fu Panda to my little brother and his friend. The only thing I would keep would be one of the the laptops, and the interns and i would share the photo pack so we could print out some headshots.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
The best gift I have ever received was probably a classic lighter.
2. What made the gift special?
What made the gift special was after craving them for about 6 months, I asked my grandmother if she still had any from back when my grandfather still smoked. She notified me after and said that she did! On thanksgiving (2008) we all met and she gave me her 50 year old lighter. She had gotten it at the american embassy in athens.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win ?
There is a local community center in my area. Three years ago a generous donor gave them a room of computers which the community was overjoyed at having. Later that year the building burned down and all the computers were lost. They are hoping to rebuild a computer, but with the failing economy, the center had to devote their time and money to supplying people in need with food and a place to stay. I would like to give this center the two of the computers, the mediasmart connect, as well as all the accessories, software, and DVD’s to help them start rebuilding they’re computer center.

I think the best gift I ever received was my dog Sandy. I remember my parents asking my sister and I if we wanted a puppy, so we were able to get one each! What made Sandy so special is that he was such a friend to me when I was little. he played with me (there weren’t a lot of kids around my age to play with) and he listened to me when I was upset or needed a shoulder to cry on. He was diagnosed with bone cancer and we had to put him to sleep, but he was my first dog and companion, and all that follow will certainly have to measure up to him.
What I would keep? The Touchscreen PC, the high end laptop and the extender. That’s ALL.
I would be giving away the rest and more! That’s right, my current computer desktop (AMD Athlon64 4000+, 2GB RAM, Windows Vista Ultimate) would be donated to my totally deserving friend William. William suffered from meningitis when he was 15, and that caused some severe brain damage. Now, Will is about the nicest person I’ve EVER known. He gives freely and asks for nothing in return. He however, badly needs a computer upgrade. He has expressed interest in my desktop computer many times, so I plan on giving it to him, along with the 19″ dual widescreen monitors I have. My laptop, a Hewlett Packard dv9000t (core2duo t7200, 2GB RAM, 17″ screen) will be donated along with the aforementioned contest materials to three needy families. These needy families will be determined by the local Salvation Army, United Way and my church (Grace Episcopal). I figured this was about as fair a way possible to give things away, because they really KNOW who needs. I would love to be there when they are given away because I would just want to see the looks on those families’ faces.

1.The best gift I have ever received is a pair of LL Bean slip on winter shoes.
2.It was special because it was very thoughtful. I have three dogs and
needed something warm that could be put on quickly.
3. I would share this prize with Best DAWG Rescue. Simply put, BSR was born of desperation to help shelter dogs be adopted. They focus their mission on saving these pups with treatable medical conditions, and overlooked or shy dogs not selected by anyone else. Millions of dogs are euthanized every year and even shelters with a “no-kill” policy still have to euthanize helpless dogs. This prize would help the Rescue continue their work, as the volunteer run group is currently using outdated equipment to support their wonderful cause.

Best gift ever must have been my 13th birthday. I got my own very ever destop computer!
It was special because I’ve never had one to call my own, and also knowing that it was not cheap, I was touched by the amount of money spent.
I am planning on sharing a portion of the package, the TouchSmart for sure and maybe a laptop, to a neighbor of mine. They are in a tough financial situation, struggling to pay for their house, thus I hope to brighten up their holidays with some HP magic.

The gift was really special to me because love is what I think the most important gift in the world.
I would share the dv4 with one of my friends. It’s a harsh time and he really wants to have some fun in his life, so I hope this, along with the Panda disks, will let him be a lot more happier.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Una beca de estudios universitarios.
A college scholarship.
2. What made the gift special?
Este regalo marcara mi vida para siempre, ya que mis padres no pueden pagarme este tipo de educacion, y en mi pais que es tercermundista, sin un titulo universitario es muy poco lo que puedes lograr.
This gift will mark my life forever, because my parents could not pay me this kind of education, and in my third world country that is, without a university degree is very little we can achieve.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I´ll give it to the university where I go, that is Don Bosco University, is one of the best of my country, but as I told you that is a third world country, so we have only the basic things, because over there we don´t see this wonderful technology, because is too expensive, many of the people make $200.00 a month so if very difficult buy something like this. One of our rooms dedicated to signatures that need to use a computer, use very old computers, we are talking that are IBM and most of all are Pentium II, pretty old, and I know that this package isn´t enough for all the students but I know that will be something that they can use for asigments that needs a powerful computer or notebook, and will be somenthing that will give them a lot of enthusiam by see this technology that is way far from our pockets to buy. But I´ll put one condition to them, that everything will be only use by the students, or to teach, because I don´t want that any staff of the university will take it for them, and I know that all this equipment will serve to them a lot, and all those thing will be a useful tool, and will do amazing things for knowledge, So help me, to help them!

1) The best gift that I have ever received from someone was a simple, inexpensive necklace.
2) It was special because it the gift was from my life partner on Christmas day 2002. We didnt have two pennies to rub together, and had struggled to make sure that our combined family of 6 kids had what they wanted. It was a surprise to be handed that $5.00 necklace, and I have never remove it.
3) If I were to win I would give the HDX 18 laptop to my son in denver who lives from pay check to pay check and cant afford a computer, and I would anonymously donate the dv4-1143go laptop to the single mother of five children with whom I am acquainted who would be too proud to take it as a gift. The printer and Office 2007 would go to my daughter so she could print out the online texts she uses for her college classes rather than try to read PDF files on her 15 in. monitor. I would keep the HP touchmsart PC for the family still @ home , and send Kung Fu Panda to my sisters young sons. I would keep the mini laptop for my self in order to keep in touch no matter where I am.

2. This was handmade by my friend – who knew I’d appreciate an unique gadget. So he bought a clock, took it apart, made it tick the other way & made a face plate to go with it.
3. I would share the laptops with my brother & father. The touchscreen I’ll donate to a cause I think is worthy (helping physically impaired children). I haven’t yet decided what to do with the res of the package.

1.) a brother
2.) I love him so much and want what’s best for him. Ever since my Mom and Dad split up, I had to be like a father figure for him. Without him, I would be the loneliest guy ever.
3.) If I won, I would give my Mom the TouchSmart. She works as computer technician at a local community college so it would be very useful to her. My brother could use the DV4 since he is graduating high school in a year and having a notebook is what he wanted before leaving for college. Me, I would like the HDX 18, something comparable to my current pc, powerful for movies and video encoding, but portable which I need since I am a first year college student.

1. A very basic hand held power rangers video game that I received when I was around 7 years old.
2. It was the first surprise I’d ever been given, I never really had a birthday before that, so this surprise gift, for no apparent reason just made me happy for months (even though I never completely understood how to play the game).
3. I would give a laptop to my brother, and a computer to one of my friends because we’re both juniors in high school, and I don’t know how he’s survived school (all the projects, research, and papers) without his own computer. And I’d also give Kung Fu Panda to my cousins.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
–The best gift I have ever received from someone else is honestly my main PC right now. I have been through a lot with that it, and it is the only computer than I can truly call my own to this day.
2. What made the gift special?
–It has much sentimental value, since it is the first PC that was officially my own, the first machine in which I started my main computing experiences, and the first machine in which I discovered the beauties of technology. It IS the PC that gave me life and started me on a path to seek out a career in technology.
It provided me with a lot of pleasant and enjoyable experiences. Unfortunately, and it pains me to admit it, it is getting dated quickly. My main PC is from the 2001-XP era, and I’ve upgraded it since. But that does not stop the fact that technology today moves at an alarming pace.
If I were to win, I would not give up on my PC, nor will I ever. Rather, I will just use other machines (like a laptop for travel) when my main PC cannot handle the task (such as touchscreens). Don’t worry, I will not give up on my beloved machine that easily
.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
–Portions of the prize package will be shared with my friends and family. For my more tech oriented friends, having the HP technology allows them to see innovative and new computing aspects (like the TouchSmart). On the other hand, for my more casual peers, I can invite them into my home for a new home theater experience (with the HP MediaSmart + Kung Fu Panda + a new HDTV my dad’s getting
). My friends and family have done a lot for me, and its time for me to finally pay them back.
Next, complete the following tasks and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.
- Twitter the following and include a link proving that you did it:
“I promise that I will make a difference in someone’s life if I win: http://tinyurl.com/6j2yml”
–My Tweet:: http://twitter.com/StahnAileron/status/1039199335
- Post a picture of your current desktop or laptop on Flickr (or your personal blog), and include a link back to that picture in your comment / entry. You do not need to be in the photo, but I’ll be even more impressed with your entry if you are.
–My current desktop on my main PC:: http://www.flickr.com/photos/3.....083603814/
;;Note, I am currently upgrading and tweaking my computer (as I said ;;before, I will not give up on it that easily
). The registration icon ;;is only there since I am testing different nLite builds (look at ;;http://www.nliteos.com/ ) for a ultimately customized-for-me PC ;;experience. I am in the middle of finishing it, and currently waiting on ;;some things to occur (such as requests).

First off – Thank You for this Great Opportunity!
1. The best gift I ever got was when my youngest son, who had strayed down the wrong path, cleaned up his act and became a productive adult.
2. The peace of mind, know that he was safe, healthy and happy made this gift the best.
3. I would share this generous gift with my husband and two sons. However, there is so much available I would also share with my favorite family, my friend and co-worker who is a single mom to two adopted children.
I promise that I will make a difference in someone’s life if I win: http://tinyurl.com/6j2yml can be viewed at – - – - http://twitter.com/zwriter/status/1039210819

1. The best gift I have ever received from someone else was a set of three juggling balls.
2. This gift was so special because of who gave it to me, the hours of fun it has provided me with, and all the amazing people I have met through juggling. Sounds ridiculous that such a small and random gift could change one’s life that much, but it’s true!
3. I would donate the whole prize (save one laptop) to my local church for use with their many outreach programs. One such program is a daily preschool for about fifty economically challenged students who would otherwise be in a crowded daycare center. The children are bused in and enjoy “physical, emotional, social and intellectual growth through experimentation and investigation”. The computers would enrich the classroom by providing the teachers with a means to organize their lesson plans and activities for the children. Additionally, this first donation of computers will serve as the foundation for a computer lab within the school that would be used to have the children develop their motor, creative, and reading skills. The Kung Fu Panda bluray is also a fun addition to the package that I’m sure any preschooler would love to watch.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
The best gift I have ever received was a picture of my daughter and I in a picture frame with a hand-made card.
2. What made the gift special?
My daughter thanking me for being there to help and support her. That is my job as a dad but I was surprised that she went out of her way to make the card and create something that was special to her.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My daughter in her first year of college would get the HDX 18 Notebook PC, a copy of MS Office, the printer, and the VideoStudio software. I sent her off to college with an old notebook computer but she really needs something better. My mom would get the Pavilion dv4 Notebook to replace her old Gateway desktop machine and a copy of MS Office. My roommate would get the HP Mini 1000 so he can stop using my computer. I would keep the TouchSmart PC and the MediaSmart Connect and the last copy of MS Office. My old notebook computer would be given to my friend’s daughter for her kids to use. All this hardware would make my daughter, my friends and family very happy this Christmas season.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
The best gift I ever received was a puppy.
2. What made the gift special?
I had wanted a dog for many years, but my asthma had made that impossible. I finally had found a medicine that suppressed it enough, and I was able to have my very own beagle friend that Christmas!
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would share with the soldiers from my old Army unit (I just finished my contract earlier this year) who are deploying to Iraq again so they can keep in touch with their families.

1.The best gift I ever received was an awesome bicycle when I was six. I still have it.
2.It was special because it was from my grandma who I loved.
3.Much of the prize would be donated. Most of it would go to the Escondido Union School District to the McKinney Vento program. The McKinney Vento program deals with homeless students and I believe the computers would greatly increase the productivity and effectiveness of the program.

My story will, in a way, set the stage for me answering the 3rd question by telling you the answers to the first two questions.
The gift itself wasn’t really anything special so much as what it represented. So, I can tell you that my cousin gave me a free souvenir mug from a souvenir shop in Daytona Beach, and it will not sound like much. But as I said, it was what the gift represented that made this one of the most special and best gifts anyone has ever given me.
My grandparents every year go to Daytona Beach for their vacation, and my uncle’s family goes too. (My uncle and aunt and their two sons). The younger of the two sons has Asperger’s Syndrome, which, in the simplest way to describe it, is just one step shy of Autism. He cannot understand social cues, and as a result sometimes he will say or do things that are very inappropriate without realizing that they are inappropriate. He was probably about 10 years old at this time, and I was 21. This particular year I got to go on vacation with that part of the family. But also at that time I did not know anything about Aspergers, I had always thought my younger cousin was just some kind of spoiled weird kid that acted out a lot. I finally asked my aunt why they did nothing when he would say really mean things (especially to his parents) and she sat me down and had a long talk with me about Aspergers and what it is, how it affected his life and what we should probably all do to try to help him, rather than punish him for not having the ability to understand social cues. After that I decided to make a great effort to try to understand my cousin better, rather than write him off as a brat. I had tutored kids with learning disabilities in high school, (although by law the teachers were not allowed to tell me what problems the kids had, they just had to be nearby to supervise me tutoring) and so I understood that many things were probably tougher for my cousin than they were for me. So literally overnight we went from being “almost strangers” to pretty close friends.
So, that’s the background information.
Sometime around the 3rd day or so that we were there, we found in the hotel rec room some coupons for discounts at local places, and one was for a free souvenir mug at a store if you just came in and presented a coupon, no purchase necessary. My cousin got very obsessive about this, bugging his parents every few hours to take him there so he could get the mug. The answer he kept getting was “later”. I think they figured he’d forget about it and get distracted with something else, but he didn’t. None of us knew why he was so deadest on going to get it, but eventually his parents got around to taking him souvenir shopping.
They finally come back, and the first thing my cousin does is hand this plastic mug to me. At this time he had spent more than a day asking his parents over and over again when he could go get it, and it had nearly driven his dad crazy because in the meantime there had been other vacation plans to see to, but obviously with the constant interruptions of my cousin’s fixation. None of us knew all along that what he wanted was to give me a “present”, and since he had no money the next best thing was to get me a free souvenir. I think it was his way of thanking me for trying harder to love him and understand him more.
It was probably one of the most touching moments in my life, and since that summer when I came to understand this child a lot more, I’ve had a special place in my heart for children dealing with Autism and Aspergers.
So we come to my answer for question #3. I have a friend that has an autistic son. This son attends a school for children with special needs, The Fletcher Academy (You can find their website at http://thefletcheracademy.com). I plan to donate the printer in the prize package to this school, either for the school to use if they need it OR as a prize for a raffle drawing so the school can raise money for one of its programs.
I will also be donating one of the laptops to the friend I mentioned above. She works 3 jobs to pay for her son’s education, and 1 of the jobs she does involves using a program that makes materials for children with Autism, as well as elderly stroke victims, that helps make communication easier by use of pictures. She will be upgrading her software soon and needs a computer better suited to the system requirements for this software.

My blog entry with the photo (you have to probably scroll down a bit since it’s in a long entry where I posted about how I’d share the prize, since all the other entries are basically asking the same question. http://silverambz.livejournal.com/273246.html
Thanks!

The best gift I have ever received was my 1993 Chevy Blazer. This gift was special to me because it was from my loving parents and it gave me the freedom to drive where ever I wanted. IF I actually win this giveaway I would definitely give a portion of it to my parents and at least one friend.

The best gift I ever recieved was $300 towards my first real computer all of my own, an old eMac. It was special because it allowed me to start out on the internet and explore things that I had no idea about before: photography, design, HTMl, etc. If I win, I will give what makes sense as gifts to friends and family, and then at least one remaining thing away to readers of my blog.

I would give the Touchsmart to my parents, I would give the HP Mini to my uncle for Christmas as he has been wanting a mini laptop, I would probably keep the HDX 18 for myself. The Entertainment Notebook would go to my grandma since she is in need of a new computer. The printer would be a gift also to my parents, and the software as well. Always remember Christmas is not about receiving gifts but its about giving gifts, and celebrating the creator of the worlds birthday. This prize would be a true blessing for my family.

1. The best give I will be receiving is presently growing inside my wife. We have many hopes for our new child, though we will be happy as long as he or she is healthy.
If you desire an answer with a substantive item, I received extra funding from my parents to spend extra time in Europe during my research trip there.
2. My child will be very special to me, of course. Part of humanity’s function is to reproduce; having fulfilled this function my wife and I move into another stage in our lives.
Again concerning the more substantive gift, I had yet to travel overseas. If I wished to devote my life to the study of cultures that existed there, I needed to spend enough time there to ensure that I enjoyed the modern culture. Their gift allowed me enough time to make that judgment.
3. There are a couple fellow graduate students in my department who do not have personal computers of their own. I understand the difficulties in studying, conducting research, and writing without the convenience and necessity of a personal computer. I would hope to help one or two of them.

1. My MacBook Air from my parents.
2. Because my other computer was falling apart and I didn’t have enough money to buy a new one, so it was a really thoughtful gesture from my parents.
3. I would share the prizes with my parents and sister, as a thank you for buying me a computer.

Best gift: Moving back home after four years overseas.
Why: after four years of blood, sweat, stress, tears, pain and unhappiness, my family was able to go back to Seattle. Without going into too many details, it set my life back on track and stopped us from going down a dark and probably dangerous path.
Gift: I would share much of the package with my old high school in Seattle so that they could set them up in the media lab, instead of using PCs that usually didn’t work properly, took ages to do simple things, and seemed to be more of an impediment than a tool. With new hardware, students like I used to be could make videos, images, drawings and new media. It would be a cool way to say ‘thanks’ to a place that I spent a lot of time in, and it would make a difference in the lives of the students that use the lab.

The best gift I have ever received would have to be the “no” I received from the first woman I proposed to. She was wise enough to know we were not a good match.
This gift was special because it opened my mind and eyes so that I could see the right woman (who we both knew) and marry her. Over 28 years and two children later I have only thanks and no regrets.
If I win I will share the prizes with the Washington Jurisdiction of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls http://www.gorainbow.org/home/home.taf which is an amazing organization that helps girls become women and leaders.

I guess I’d already lose for not being able to read.
Here goes:
The best gift I received was from my parents i.e. they let me come to the States for my education. This was clearly special because they trusted me & knew that I would not forget all I had been taught.I would share the largesse with several people:
Athens Area Homeless shelter (wireless printer, kungfu panda dvds and photo pack)
UGA Center for Teaching and Learning (touchsmart pc and corel software)
my parents in Nigeria- dv4 with Office 2007 licenses
Father-in-law – HP mini to get him connected.
Sister-in-law (teacher & new mom) – Windows Live subscriptions to help her with classrooom teaching.
Myself & husband – HDX laptop & mediasmart for personal and work use.
I’m not afraid to proclaim that I will do the above if I win.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My parents arranged for me to go to Germany for 10 days when I was 13 with my school.
2. What made the gift special?
At the time neither of my parents were working and money was very tight; especially with 5 kids. Somehow, knowing that the trip would help me at school, my parents found the money to not only pay for the trip but to also give me a reasonable amount of spending money.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would keep the HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC and the HP MediaSmart Connect digital media receiver for myself. The laptop will help when I start my degree in February.
I would give the HP TouchSmart IQ816 AIO Desktop PC to my disabled Dad to replace his now aging Athlon-based PC.
I would give the HP Pavilion dv4 series Entertainment Notebook PC to my kid sister to replace her aging desktop system.
I would give the HP Mini 1000 to my cousin’s daughter. It will save my cousin having to find the money on her tight budget to buy her daughter a PC for her college work.
I would give one copy of Kung Fu Panda to my other sister for her kids and the other copy to my brother for his kids.
I would give the HP Photosmart C6380 Wireless AIO multifunction and HP 564 Photo Value Pak to my brother.
Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition and Corel VideoStudio X2 will both help with my degree. If there are multiple licenses they would also potentially help my cousin’s daughter and my sister’s kids.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My wife made me a crochet blanket for Christmas many years ago when I went off to college.
2. What made the gift special?
I had gone to another state to finish school early on in our relationship and though we weren’t near each other she chose to spend time creating a warm wonderful blanket for me. I’m fairly tall so she made the blanket extra large to fit me. It’s a wonderful blanket and is on our bed right now, nearly ten years later.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I owe everything I’ve accomplished in my life to my family and friends, so I would share it with them.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
>> It has to most definitely be a T-Shirt given to me in my Junior year in College. I was absolutely crazy about this particular Reebok tee and almost everyone i knew, knew about my love for that particular tee and how i was saving to buy it!
2. What made the gift special?
>> My entire group of friends (about 20-22 of them) pooled in money, and called up my mom to find out stuff like my size etc. and bought me that tee. On my birthday, the guys took me into the washroom and ripped the t-shirt that I was wearing, apart. I was terribly shocked and that’s when these guys whipped out this tee that I liked and made me put it on! When I came out, everyone was clapping and cheering, and believe me, that was the best feeling ever!
It also became a joke in the future, about how everyone applauded when I came out of the “crapper”!! hehe
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
>> I have an HP Laptop dv6000 series purchased in 2005. Although this machine is decent, it cannot keep up with my demanding requirements. Unfortunately being a student, I cannot afford to purchase a newer one.
If I do win the prize, I will firstly sell of this machine and donate the proceeds to the valiant Police force who fought with vigor during the recent Terror attacks that occurred in Mumbai. It was a very disheartening experience and I want to do as much as I can for them. I will personally keep the HDX machine. The HP dv4 machine I will gift to my elder brother on Christmas, as he is using a machine that he was gifted in 2001! It is really really old and I would love to surprise my elder brother by gifting him a spanking new machine!! It would be simply amazing to surprise him as his little bro would really be making his day! The HP Touchsmart PC, I will gift to my darling mother. She is currently learning how to operate a PC on our old Desktop PC which is a Pentium 2(64 MB RAM) machine and is just not good enough by today’s standards. I will donate that old machine to a school where I teach underprivileged kids as a part of my Sharing Care club (http://www.sharingcare.org/). The HP Mini, I will gift to my retired dad. He will be simply delighted to have a small lightweight machine to check his emails and to read the online articles that he loves to read. It would be perfect for him! This gift would all in all, make Christmas a whole lot brighter for my entire family!

In ONE comment, you must answer these three questions, and post links to prove that you have fulfilled the two required tasks:
1. The best gift I ever received from someone was back when I was a teenager and my parents got me my first ring. It was a pretty pink sapphire ring and it was my first piece of jewelry so I was happy to get it!
2. It was my first piece of jewelry from my loving parents!
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? If I were to win this I would share all of these prizes with my family and my sister-in-law. My kids always have to do projects or research with the pc and since mine is dying/slow, this would help them to be more productive with school! Most of the time I take them to the library or a friend’s house to use the pic since mine will freeze up or reboot regularly! Also I would share with my sister-in-law since her pc was stolen when she had her house broken into! (what a shame, right?) so all of her 300+ photos were gone & she was not one to back them up or print them out!

1. My best gift was a kitten.
2 My husband was going out of town for a 3 month assignmnet and got the kitten for me to keep me company. He lived with us for almost twenty years until we lost him this summer. Most material gifts don’t last 20 years nor do they love you back.
3 I would share my loot with my mom. She is struggling on an old, slow computer. It would be fun to help her move into a current age computer wise.

The best gift I ever received was on my birthday and was given to me by my wife, when she told me she was expecting our first child. This was the best gift as it completely changed my life. I am still eagerly waiting for my happiness to enter this world but I will never forget that moment where the entire world’s happiness was given to me.
I would share this prize with my wife to compete with the present she gave me.

1. The best gift I was given was last Christmas when my parents paid for our whole family to go to Florida, where one of my brothers lives, to celebrate the holiday.
2. The gift was so special because it was truly centered on giving and on family, instead of ’stuff’. It was the first time that my husband and daughters had been to Florida, so that was special too. It was a memorable trip-not spent opening tons of gifts, but spending time together and enjoying each other.
3. If I won this fabulous prize, I would place it in the middle school special education classroom where I am a teacher. The computers we have are outdated and some of them don’t work at all. My students, with varying degrees of disabilities, need modern technology to optimize their learning experience. This gift would mean so much to them and to me.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Oddly enough, my answer is: a pillow.
2. What made the gift special?
My mom gives me one every year. Christmas is a big deal to her and she likes giving gifts and everyone having lots to open. I am a problem as well, being a geek, my gifts are usually tech related and are a specific part number. My dad usually orders it. However, the pillows are all my mom, they make the pile big at an affordable price and something my mom can pick up.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My family has 3 people in college; my sister and her roommate live with parents and take classes and my brother is away at school. I’d replace my sister and her roommates computers and I’d give the HDX to my brother, Mr. College Gamer. My Dad would get the touchsmart as he keeps complaining about his monitor. And my mom gets the printer package as she always wants photos of her kids. Now she can print them. And one of the Kung Fu Panda DVDs goes to my SO so she can be reminded of me.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
The best gift I ever received from someone was a bracelet from my mom. She gave both my sister and I bracelets for Christmas.
2. What made the gift special?
It is very special to me because that was the last Christmas that we had with her. She passed away unexpectedly. She also included a small card that I cherish where she wrote a tender message.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
If I win I would share this gift with my family. My son is going off to college next year and needs a computer badly. Right now I am trying to find a motherboard for an old computer my sister gave me but if I won this I wouldn’t have to try to scrape up the cash for it. I would also share with my grandmother. My grandmother is a wonderful woman who would love to email and share photos with the rest of us. Her sister keeps telling her to get a computer and I just know that she would love this gift. Finally, I would share with my husband. He is the best man in the world and would love to wake up and find a computer under the tree.

I guess it was so special because I had nine siblings, and we always got hand me down everythings. This was a full out girls authentic, metallic green Schwinn and it was MINE!! it was the most awesome day of my preteen life!
If I win I will be giving a laptop to my son Ben who is in his first year of college and wants to major in the sciences. He is using an antique DELL now and really needs a computer that he can port along between work and home. Another daughter and her 8 and 2 year old son will receive a computer as they have none. Gavin is a wiz kid and at 8 years old should have a good computer in the home. I may donate the third one to my church’s pastor as he writes and writes and writes and could really use a great HP computer. Thanks.

The best gift I have ever received from some one else would be a hockey stick from my neighbor.
What made this gift so special is for one, I was really close to my neighbor and he is no longer on this earth, and two, with the hockey stick he gave me (which I considered my lucky hockey stick) I was then able to go on and play ball hockey, make a bunch of new friends and memories, then later our team made it to semi regional champions.
If I were to win this prize I would share it with a room mate of mine, because of the poor of college students that we are, neither of us can afford a awesome HP laptop. Having the use of a laptop my room mate wont have to use the school computers or constantly borrow or use another persons computer/laptop for his work. As for me going in the I.T. field a laptop would greatly help me with all of my classes from taking notes, doing homework, to class work that requires a computer, because trying to make my desktop computer mobile is next to impossible with how big and old the thing is. As for the small mini laptop I would give it to another friend of mine who dorms in another room, because he uses a mac computer that cant run any of his engineering programs because they are made for windows. Also as the holidays are nearing I would give the touch screen to my mother because her old computer is way too out dated and extremely slow for her just trying to store pictures and read her email.
Hope I win
and thanks for the opportunity.

My parents always made Christmas special. Thanks Mom and Dad.
1. My best gift would be the old standby – the bicycle.
2. I rode many a miles on that bicycle on blacktop and gravel roads, and I had the bruises to prove it.
3. I would share with my friend Cathi who does not have a computer. The library would get the movies. I’ll find a good cause for the rest probably a deserving student and the church.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
A: The best gift would be dancing lessons from my boyfriend for my birthday.
2. What made the gift special?
A: He or I can’t dance, and when we went, we thought it was a beginner class but we were the only ones who had never attended a class before. But it showed how he didn’t care about his own comfort, he only thought about what he could do to make me happy.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
A: I would share the videos with my cousin who has 4 small children. I would share the laptop with my boyfriend as he will be going to school in 2009 for a graduate degree.

The best gift that I ever received was my 9 month old son. It is the best gift because I never knew love before I met him. I know this sounds sappy but it is honest and from my heart!
I would give my dad one of the computers and I would also keep one for myself. The other two will be donated to the school right up the road from my house. THANK YOU!!

1. The best gift I ever received was a piano (electronic one) from my father.
2. It was special because I was really excited about learning piano but I didn’t have one to practice. Also, I knew it was a big effort from my father to get it. So it was doubly special.
3. If I win, I want to share the prize with a friend who is very passionate about computers. And if the rules allow it, I’d like to draw something at my blog (it’ll be fun and … even more magic!).

The best gift I can think of, out of several wonderful gifts over the decades, was a baby Red-foot Tortoise my children gave me for Christmas 2006. I have had and loved tortoises since the mid-60’s but had faded out of them as our family grew. I had promised that I would not keep another until I could do it right.
My grown kids not only got me the tortoise, but also a house and all the supplies for it! Part of the coolness of this gift is that it reawoke this part of my life, and I now have 5 Red-foot tortoises, including a rescued one and one my kids bought for themselves (for me to care for) because they loved the little guy so much and wanted him/her to have a friend.

If I win, I will be sharing the package with my family of six and mom and in-laws. Three of us are students, two are teachers, one has a part-time gig as a photographer and just got married. between our families are several young kids, and some of our siblings and their families have limited access to any good technology.
This package will let us share with them in ways that can broaden their opportunities, help in school, help with creativity, keep everyone connected (my in-laws don’t even have email!), and more.

1. A sega genesis console
2. It was so special because it was the first gadget I received (when I was still rather young) for doing well in school. The gift was secondary. It was how proud my parents looked then (:
3. I would keep the HP Mini for myself as I already have a workstation but I need something really portable to do my work on the road. I’ll contribute the MediaSmart Connect to the living room, and distribute the rest with teachers from my high school. I believe it is a really great way of giving back for whatever they have given me and students for the many years they have been teaching.

The best gift I have ever received was a sony digital camera from my brother.
We’re 5 years apart, so we’re not that close, so it surprised me that he actually went to the effort to get me the camera. I had been wanting a digital camera for Christmas, and my dad later told me that they went to fry’s, couldn’t find the Canon that I wanted, and instead got me the Sony. It wasn’t the camera that I wanted, but I was just so surprised and grateful that he got it for me that I used it anyway.
I’d give my brother a laptop. I’d give my friend Erin another laptop or maybe the desktop.

Answers to questions:
1. Promise ring from dh (when he was still only my boyfriend many years ago!)
2. It was so special because the commitment meant so much to me – the pure joy and purity of young love, you know. And we’re standing the tests of time even with 3 lovely boys to keep us on our toes!
3. I would share this prize with my best friend for sure – other than my husband she is the rock in my life. Always helping out with my kids and supporting me in my choices. She’s amazing and would so appreciate a gift like a computer!

1. The best gift I ever received was the original Nintendo Entertainment System from my parents.
2. It was special because I really really looked forward to it, and I was like 6 years old. It was a joint gift for me and my 11-year old brother, and we snuck into my parent’s closet to find it early so we were pretty excited.
3. I would really like to be able to give my dad a laptop for Christmas. He hasn’t entered the digital age yet but has decided he wants to so he can buy supplies for his small logging business.

1) The best gift I’ve ever received from someone else is the DSLR camera I got from my dad for my 30th Birthday.
2) It was wonderful because it was SO unexpected (it came 6 months before my birthday!) and because it has allowed me to take amazing pictures of my children, which I can share with my friends and family who are scattered about the country. Including my 93 year old Grandmother. Also, it’s nothing I would have ever bought for myself, so it’s extra special!
3) If I win this prize I’d love to be able to donate some of the equipment to a few different organizations:
a) St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
b) Ronald McDonald House at Children’s Hopsital Los Angeles where a friend of mine just spent 6 weeks.
At both places, families spend weeks and even months in stressful situations away from family/friends and their usual support groups. I’d love to be able to offer them a way to connect and keep in touch with their loved ones. I know how important it was for my friend while her son was in the NICU and she was 3 hours away from home.

The best gift I received from anyone was last year when my mom gave me a check to pay for my college.
The gift was special because the check she gave me was her entire life savings so that I could go to college and receive an education. She always made sure that I made something of myself and that I could live a happy life. This was the most emotional moment of my life. Never did I know that she was saving up for my college education, as for I was also saving up since the day I started working.
This gift would go in all of it’s entirety back to her because she deserves something in return of what she gave me last year.

What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
A personally engraved necklace from my Dad. I was only plated brass and is very discolored now. I still cherish it though.
What made the gift special?
It would be the last gift that I would ever receive from him as he died a few months later.
Who I would share with….
The majority of the prize would go to my sister and her kids. My nephew, a junior in high school,is a member of the National Honor Society and has the highest GPA of his entire school. He will be the first of our family to go to college. He needs a notebook desperately for school. My niece shows great talent artistcally with graphic designing but can’t really do much on the dinosaur of a computer that they own. My sister and the kids are sharing an ancient desktop. My sister is barely making ends meet and simply can’t afford technology products like these. I would keep the HP HDX 18 for myself. If I could afford to buy them items like these I would. This prize would really improve their lives, that I am sure of. It would be a dream come true. I assure you, none of the prize will be sold! Thanks goes out to HP and Judie, you are going to make some lucky recipient believe in magic!

1)The best gift I have ever received would be a tie between Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaimon from my brother, and a Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 sewing machine from my Grandmother.
2)My brother gave me what is now my favorite book, and it gave us a whole slew of things to talk about. I had also been wanting a sewing machine for a long time so that I could start making clothing and projects. Not only did she give me one of her older machines, she gave me a really expensive one that embroiders, so now I can work on my sewing and make cool gifts for others.
3)If I were to win I would give a comptuer to my sister. Because even though she lives on her own, works a nine to five job, and is busy paying off student loans, she does not own a computer. I want to help her new apartment search not to metion being able to check her email every day by giving her a computer that neither of us would be able to afford otherwise.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
I’m sure I could go all mushy and say the birth of my kids, but this is a gear diary, so I’ll go old school and say the year my mom bought me a Commodore 64.
2. What made the gift special?
It was a computer! Before computers were in toasters! It was cutting edge and fun. If you wanted to run a program, you had to type it out of magazine with literally hundreds of data lines. Then you saved it to a cassette tape…seriously. No joke.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?

1. When I was a child, I often got into trouble for sneaking a certain pair of earrings from my mother’s jewelry box and wearing them to play dress-up. One day last year, my mother handed me a box and said it was “just because” gift. Inside were the earrings I had so coveted.
2. The gift of the earrings was special because, of course, they were my mother’s but also because those two silver earrings held a piece of my childhood with all its exuberance and imagination and magic. One day my mom will be gone and when I wear those earrings I will take comfort in knowing they once framed her beautiful face and I can never lose her.
3. I would share this gift with my mother, because I can never give her enough gratitude. Also with my son, because he is the light of my life and with my niece, who is such a big help to us all.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
I recieved a rock collection from my mom, which consisted of a piece of copper, a 10,000 fossil, and a Crystocola rock.
2. What made the gift special?
It is more than special. My mother passed away this last June of a heart condition. I still look at the rocks, and I think of her. I am away from home and at college, and I left the collection at home, but any fancy rock I see reminds me of her.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My dad has to take care of my two younger brothers, who are at home, and so I would give one of the laptops to the older of the two, and give them the DVD and give the printer to my dad.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else. My husband planned a trip to Mexico and wrapped the itinerary up for my Chrismas present.
2. What made the gift special? That he planned the whole thing and got permission for me to be off work without my help.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? I have recently started working for a CPA firm who has hired three other moms to work part time during tax season. This firm does about 40% of their work for non profit organizations. The problem is that there is only one computer for all four of us, so we are always fighting over it. I would give them 2 of the computers.

3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would most definitely share the computers with my family (brother, father and mother) and I would give the printer to my neighbour; my childhood friend, and I would give the Corel program to his grandfather who loves to shoot videos of friends and family; I am sure he would love to edit them personally.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
I haven’t received many -physical- gifts in my lifetime…but it’s the gift of knowledge by people like Daniel Quinn and my ninth grade world geography teacher who I still hang out with today.
2. What made the gift special?
I know more, I understand more, and I’m less apathetic and sympathetic because of it.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
If I could, I’d give it to an orphanage (but I don’t know of any around here) or an animal shelter. Otherwise a -lot- of the stuff would be given away to whoever has helped me in times of hardship (e.g. when I was homeless).

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to participate in this wonderful contest. Wish you all the best in spreading the festival warmth.
1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
It was actually an opportunity that my erstwhile boss gave me. I was recruited as a research associate in finance. I didn’t have any prior experience in teaching; however, one fine day, my boss just threw me in the deep end and asked me to handle a session for senior managers. It was an opportunity that changed my life completely (explained below) and is till date the best gift that I have received.
2. What made the gift special?
The confidence and faith that my boss had in me helped me overcome the initial jitters. At the end of the lecture, much to my surprise, I realized that I enjoyed teaching! It was courtesy that wonderful gift that I found my calling in life. Now, I am a full-time lecturer in finance; my courses have received excellent feedback from students and I know, deep down, that I owe everything to my boss.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I will gift the touchsmart, which frankly is a luxury, to my wonderful parents for the countless sacrifices they have made. The mini, I will gift to my adorable neice who is just discovering the joy of computers. I will gift the KungFu DVD pack to my boss’s son (can’t convince my boss to accept any other gift).
As for the remaining gadgets, I am a firm believer of the old proverb: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. As a lecturer of finance working in a developing country, I have been captivated by microfinance – the business of making finance available to the real poor. While microfinance has put a lot of money in the hands of the poor, they have little training on how to use them effectively. I, along with a group of friends, are planning to create a platform that will educate them on the basics of banking, personal finance, saving do’s-and-dont’s etc. We will design CDs in various local languages that will train them on these fundamental ideas.
The additional laptops with original Windows OS, the Corel software and the mediacenter will all be a great help in creating these learning packages. While I have a basic printer for my everyday needs, the Photosmart printer will really be a blessing for this endeavour. More importantly, these gifts will also help us channel our limited funds on other non-infrastructure requirements. After the venture is stabilized, we intend to identify rural entrepreneurs who are willing to take up training as a career and gift them the laptops along with complete access to our learning material.

A: This is the device that got me involved in the online mobile world, where I’e met so many interesting people and made some great friends.
3: Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
A: We have a friend who lost her job as a teacher, but who went on to volunteer at the Literacy Center West where she tutors disadvantaged youth and adults, and also helps out at the Pregnancy Care Center for underprivileged mothers-to-be. She and her husband and two youngsters have had a bit of a hard time of late, and I’ve refurbished and gave her a laptop to help out with her tutoring and pregancy advising, but I’d love to help her out by providing a couple of laptops, along with the printer, software and the MediaSmart. She cheerfully gives quite a lot of her time helping others out so I’d love to provide her with tools to make her volunteering and work easier.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
The best gift I got was a small scented pink pen that my sister secretly stashed with a note into my suitcase that I was taking when leaving for college.
2. What made the gift special?
The fact that it was a complete surprise and that when it was hardest for me, when I was the most homesick I would write something down with that and the scent would remind me of home.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
With my parents, the school where my mom works and a designer friend.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
When my father was getting up in age, he gave me his prize diamond ring. My mother had given it to him and it really means a lot to me.
2. What made the gift special?
Good questions – after some thought I would have to say that my father trusted me with the one thing he treasure most in his life, the token of my mother’s love for him.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? I would share this prize with my family. Both my sons are in need of upgraded computer equipment. They are in their early thirties and both just starting their own businesses.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
Love from my parents.
2. What made the gift special?
My parents love and support me all the time in everything I do. It’s wonderful to know that they care so much.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My uncle recently stopped being a Luddite (this past August). He’s now checking his email at the public library and using the internet for job searching. A laptop would really help him in these searches.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
Okay, so I know this is totally going to sound corny and all, but i would have to say the best gift that i recieved was from one of my friends, when we were in elementary together. It was a little poem written on a piece of paper that was decorated and coloured. I loved it, and i still have it today.
2. What made the gift special?
Well, I thought the gift was special, because i knew it came from the heart, it was well thought out (for a kid in elementary), and it was from a person that is very special to me. It wasn’t just one of those “Halmark” poems ither, though it was like roses are red, but with a twist. haha. Oh, the good old days…
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Well, i would share a portion of the package to my sister, one of the laptops w/ software, I would give it to her because she is graduating this year, and she has applied to go to dal university, she wants to major in radiology. For her studies she needs a laptop, but money is tight, with her going to college and such, so this would help the family out a lot.
I would give the printer to my mother, she is well in need of a new one! the one she has now, creates lines on the page (prints mis-shapenly) and it usually bleeds.
Would donate the dvd to my school library — for classes to watch — if their good.
The rest of the package, i would split up with my family/friends.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
A Nintendo64 game console.
2. What made the gift special?
On the year of its release, especially during the holiday season, the system was practically impossible to find. I was told I would be getting one “for Christmas”, but that it won’t be until well in the new year when the stores were getting another shipment. To my wonderful surprise though, not only did my mom get one, she managed to keep it hidden from me til Christmas morning. (yes, I was the type that went snooping around the tree) It was truly a surprise, and I’ll never forget how special that day was.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Mostly my family. My sister, who desperately needs an easier way of keeping in touch long distance, my mom, and an aunt and uncle.
I promise that I will make a difference in someone’s life, regardless of whether or not I win.

The best gift I ever received was a vintage leopard print coat for my fifteenth birthday. I was grounded and all of my friends were avoiding me so I really expected it to be a horrible birthday but it turned out that they not only planned a surprise party for me, but also had coerced my parents into letting me out for the night AND all chipped in money to buy a schmancy present I’d been lusting after. Awesome.
I am on a non-profit committee working on outfitting the first-ever library for an inner-city K-8 grade school that has been around since the 1940s. It was so hard for me to imagine that the school had existed so long without a standalone library. They had a couple of shelves of very old, very worn books in the back of their gym. We are buying them books, furnitures, computers… the works. It would be nice to have a little extra goodness to shower them with. I would like to keep one of the laptops for myself. (I’ve only ever used Mac desktops so I would be curious to see how HP/Windows compares.) Not sure which one I’d pick yet, though.

1. For my college graduation I got a silver ring inset with a lavender stone with the inscription “Katie Rose your story grows.”
2. The ring is so special because it was made for me by my sister who passed away 2 1/2 years ago.
3. To be honest I’m not too tech savvy so I would give all this to my husband to divvy up as he sees fit. I would encourage him to gift some of it to our son’s preschool which is a very charitable church.

1) When my dad let me build my first computer for my 17th birthday.
2) It was special because he trusted me enough to let me do it.
3) If I win I would like to share the prize with my local Community Service Center. This organization provides a number of programs to assist seniors, the disabled and the disadvantaged with services such as transportation, counseling and help finding employment.

1. The best give that i ever received was a paper crown made by niece in kindergarten. The crown was made of lime green construction paper with foam pink hearts attached to the points. She took a red marker and tried to “write” something for me on it.
2.What made it so special is that she thought about me, her Auntie. I love the fact that it was made with love and child innocence. She’s a really good kid and i really was touched that she gave it to me. She has this beautiful smile and she was smiling all big when she gave it to me.
3. I’d share this prize with my mom and my sister. My mom has a really old computer that believe it or not runs on megahertz. She loves to play literati online, and because her comp is on the old side it freezes and lags. Sometimes she gets accused of looking at the dictionary. Which as those who play the game know is a no go. My sister could also use one of the laptops. I’d give her one because she’s trying to go back to school. d she has 3 kids all under the age of 7, and if she had this she could set up wireless and do her work and be able to watch the kids without having to be tied down in one spot.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
The gift of life from my parents. After that, it’s the piano my grandmother left to me.
2. What made the gift special?
Life speaks for itself, I think. The piano was special because my grandmother had a lot of other grandchildren, but she let me have the piano. It reminds me of all the happy times visiting my grandparents.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would send the desktop computer and the printer to my husband’s parents, who aren’t wired at all. One of the laptops I would donate to the community theatre where I work, because our computers are very inadequate. Through the theatre, I know several nice people who I don’t think have a computer at home. If I win, I will make some inquiries and figure out who needs it the most and give them one of the laptops. I would only keep one laptop, the media connect, and some of the software.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
It was the gift of my first computer. I got it from my parents and know am hooked on technology, I plan on studying computer science next year at university.
2. What made the gift special?
I probably did not know at the time when I first got my A-open computer with windows me on it with the included dial up connection that it would eventually lead to a carrier that looks to be very promising. Now everyone comes to be for their computer related questions and advice, or to get there computer fixed.
Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? My sister and sister in law. They both need new technology. My sister does not have her own computer so I would share it with her. Also my sister in law has two kids that she is trying to support so I would likely share most of it with her, the only thing that I would like would be the laptop for when I go to university.

The best gift I ever received, was the most unselfish thing. A neighbor of mine gave me their pale blue Cadillac.
It was so special because I was a single mother working full time, and my car caught on fire in my driveway. With no savings, and no reliable bus system, I had no where to turn. This neighbor was selling a mint condition Cadillac with all the extras, and instead gave it to me and my children. I thought at the time, he was selling it for $1,000.00, but my boyfriend has since informed me, it must have been for much more.
That car saw me through some very tough times, and it was the absolute sweetest thing. I secretly paid the priest back for the car though. I sent in anonymous donations to the church for two years until I had it paid back.
I would share this package with my boyfriend. He has a computer that he has repeatedly had to fix, reformatting every few months. This man gives and gives to everyone else, and never gives to himself. I would love to see his face when he opened the boxes.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else: The Atari system (with extra games!) that I received the first Christmas it was out
2. What made the gift special? My parents swore I would never be allowed to have one, and they had me so fooled that opening that package was completely awesome!
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? If I won, I would keep 1 laptop. I’d like to share a laptop and the DVD with the womens’ shelter in my area, for the afterschool program. I would like to give the printer to my friend who desperately needs one.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
The best gift I ever received was a plane ticket to visit family that I hadn’t seen for years. Getting to spend a few weeks in the Summer with them was awesome.
2. What made the gift special?
The fact that it was something I couldn’t afford for myself at the time and was given to me without any conditions attached.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My plan is to share a computer or two with the assisted living facility that my grandparents now live in. They don’t have any public access computers and I think it would be great to help keep them active and connected.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My grandma bought me a G4 iBook.
2. What made the gift special?
I didn’t ask for it. She knew that I was leaving early in the morning to work and didn’t get home late from classes. She wanted me to finish school and thought it would be a good way to get my homework done between work and class.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
While my grandma is no longer here to share with, I would share it with the person that has just as big of a heart, my mom. She has had a rough time with breast cancer and now a pacemaker. She hasn’t had a new computer since Win 98 came out. She could really benefit from a new laptop. I still wouldn’t need the rest so I would give to the local schools who don’t have money to buy new technology.

Thanks Geary Diary for the opportunity to share my story.
The best gift I ever received was a letter from my sister thanking me.
What made the gift special was the unique bond it created between the two of us. Last year my sister was waiting for a liver transplant and it was getting down to the nitty gritty for her. At any given time there are about 18,000 people waiting for livers and only 6000 available through cadaver tranplants. I decided to get tested to become a living donor, the chances were slim that I’d be a match, only 30% make the cut,but I did. So last year 60% of my liver was transplanted into Susan.
I would love to be able to share this gift with many of the people who helped us out. Susan has been without a job for the last 5 years and has just started working again. I’d love for her to have part of this package. My Mother and sisters who took care of us over a 3 month period while we recovered would certainly share in this and also one of my co workers who really stepped up to help me out while I was off. Personally I don’t need any of it as you can see and would love to share.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
The best gift is of course the “Yes” word that was given to me in reply to my proposal.
2. What made the gift special?
It is very special because that gift resulted in my girlfriend becoming my wonderful wife – and there is nothing more in the world that is better than that.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would give one laptop to my wife, because she does not have her own computer and when our studies need two computers, we have to go to the university and stay there until we finish our assignments – sometimes up to 1am.
I would also share my prize (the big computer) with my parents in Lithuania and some of the goodies with my brother and sister, who are also studying in different cities.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else. Just recently, my brother gave me a flat-panel HDTV with a 26 inch screen.
2. What made the gift special? My old television had a 13 inch screen. I owned it for 14 years (it was so old that I would have to hit it a few times to get the screen to work). Plus the fact that he gave the HDTV to me for no particular reason that made it that much special (it wasn’t a birthday present or for the holidays).
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? I would definitely share this computer package with my family, especially my brother, niece and nephew.

1. My mom gave me a presario 2500 laptop about 5 years ago, got me started on the track i am and what i plan to do in the future, and its still the laptop i use today.Except now its pretty beat up, the power cord has been resoldered and new connectors put on, but still the laptop that i uses day to day.
2. Well, we werent really able to afford it at the time, and we sacrificed some for me to be able to get it, and i plan on paying my mom back for that once i get a job by rewarding her somehow.
3. I would give one of the laptops to a friend of mine who really needs a laptop, might give netbook to mom if she wants it, find someone who needs microsoft office and give that to them. Then most likely keep the rest because well, quite frankly i need a new laptop and the desktop is just sweet, and would make a sweet tv/media center for my room.

Currently used laptop: Presario 2500, painted lid twice, fixed power connector 3x, battery has 22% capacity, would be great to upgrade..

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else. This one is hard. It really isn’t an item. My mother grew up in a very poor family – no money, no Christmas – alcoholism. I would have to say that the best present I ever got was Christmas when I was a kid. It wasn’t any one particular present, but the overall sense of family, togetherness, and love that she didn’t have when she was a child.
2. What made the gift special? To this day, it shaped my view of what Christmas should be. I’ve tried to give that to my kids also, but haven’t done as well as my Mom did.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? Mom, who needs a computer, and the local school, which has been hit hard with budget cuts this year.

1. It was December 2003, 2 days before my birthday. Somebody knocked on the door and when I opened it, it was my brother and sister who endured a 14-hour flight from Arizona to visit me. My heart skipped and It was just the best birthday gift I’ve ever had.
2. We haven’t seen each other for three years up until that unforgettable day. We are very close to our families and nothing is more important than them.
3. I would keep one computer and give the rest to my brother who just got married last June. It would help them build their new family because Dette (his wife) is now 4 months pregnant. I really want my nephew or niece to have a very knowledgeable environment as he/she grows up. It would mean so much to me if I can share the magic with them.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My mom gave me a flowering cactus for my 21st birthday.
2. What made the gift special?
That my mom trusts me not to kill the cactus despite several years of my showing her an ineptitude with plants.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
A little girl recently featured in a reality show. She’s seven years old, and single-handedly looks after her mother who refuses to get out of bed. She cooks, cleans, baths her mother, and clears her urine and feces from a bedpan. She also helps out her father (with an amputated leg) at a newspaper stand, among other things.

1. The best gift I ever received turned out to be 2 stuffed teddy bears. One was an Angel bear. I did not know it at the time, but they are the best gift I ever received.
2. What made them so special is I lost my Mom after she gave me these two bears and that Angel bear reminds me everyday that Mom is here with me and watching over me.
3. want to share with my sister and her three kids. She has had the same computer for 8 years. The front cover is missing, the power button no longer works, she has to plug and unplug the power cord to turn it off and on. Their printer is missing the top cover and the paper tray, another 6 year old piece of equipment. We upgrade it as much as possible for them, but both are seriously dead soldiers now. With three kids in school who need to do reports and research and being a single Mom working two jobs to feed them and keep a roof over their heads, this is not something she would ever dare spend money on. She is loathe to ask for help of any kind so seeing her and the kids faces if I was lucky enough to win this and share with them would be priceless and the best gift possible. She is my rock since my Mom died and I would love to put a smile on her face for a change and give the kids the items to help them with their school work and social networking with their friends.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
Because I can’t think of more things very far back I’ll say a large valued Whole Foods gift card that my younger brother gave to me for my birthday this year.
2. What made the gift special?
He gave it to me at a time when I was financially broke and it helped me immensely.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My dad because he’s still using an old Compaq Presario from like 1996 or 1997 that I had when I was still in college. He said he was going to get a new one after my mom passed away but it’s been a few years and he still has it. Maybe for sentimental reasons so he’d probably keep it even if I gave him a new one. My younger brother because I owe him so much and he’s also getting married in January (a new TouchSmart would make a wonderful wedding gift). Lastly, my late older brother’s wife & son because they have been out of my life since he passed away 4 years ago and I’m glad to have them back in it.

The best gift I have ever received is a huge fountain which my friends build at my house while I was out of station. Off course by the permission of my family. It was for my birthday
2. What made the gift special?
This fountain is so special because it took them 16 days to build that fountain.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
OK That’s a nice question. 2 systems for my family, rest for the mom’s Youth Welfare Society.

1. The best gift I received was a green toolbox my uncle gave me for my seventh birthday
2. It was special because it was what I’ve been wanting for a long time before the birthday
3. I’d probably share it with my mother’s friend. She and her husband are both teachers, so they don’t earn that much. They’re current PC is as slow as it gets, and I think they can put a new computer to good use.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
A silver pendant-ring with the word ‘love’ on it, threaded on a black choker.
2. What made the gift special?
The amount of thought put into the gift – I’m not the type to wear jewellery and when I saw the box I feared the worst. But when I opened it, I knew it was perfect for me. My relationship problems with this friend had just started to mend after a year, and this gift assured me that no problem would not impede our friendship permanently.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Singapore Children’s Society
Two random strangers on the street who look like they need the Christmas cheer
Next, complete the following tasks and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.

The best gift that I have received from someone else is a college scholarship. I took the exam on our college and I passed it and the school gave me a 5-year scholarship for Electronics Engineering. And now I am currently studying to take the licensure examination and I thank God for this gift.
This is very special because I needed to go college but my family can’t afford the tuition fee. I am very thankful to God for giving me that opportunity because it has made me to be a different person . It made me a disciplined, God fearing and a knowledgeable person. And I am very happy that I can share it to others and I know that it is a strong foundation so that I can give our family a good life.
I would definitely share those blessing given to me by God. This will be a very nice Christmas present for us. Here are my plans. The HPDV4 series would replace my current laptop which is a Pentium3 700MHz. I bought it last year for a very low price so that I can use that on my thesis /project study. My old laptop will be given to my auntie who is an elementary school teacher, so that she will not go to computer shop and spend money anymore. The Touchsmart PC will replace our old desktop , that will be very useful especially for my brother and sisters homework. My old desktop and the Photosmart printer will then be given to my elementary school(where I graduated-batch 1998) since they don’t even have one and I want the students and the teachers there to become computer literate. I can even give free tutorial to them. The rest of the package (HPmini, HDX18, MediaSmart, etc) rather than giving it to just a few persons, it will be auctioned and the fund that will be generated will be used to buy groceries, candies, clothing and toys. I will distribute them to the poor families in our town ( I am from the Philippines) who live in the streets and can’t even eat twice a day. And also to the street children in our town who just rely on eating left-over foods from the garbage. I want to be a Santa Claus for them and I want them to feel the spirit of Christmas. I really want to make those people happy because I can’t imagine how am I going to live like that. It will makes me feel good when I see them smile. This way, I can share the blessing and make more people happy this Christmas. God Bless Us All.

The best gift I ever received was a gift card to a local store from my husband. My husband and I had extreme financial difficulties early in our marriage, and we had decided not to get anything for each other for Christmas. We decided to spend what little money we had to buy gifts for our family instead. I was very surprised that he had saved money to buy the card for me!
What made it special was that he had worked hard to find a way to save the money for the gift at a time when money was really, really tight, and also that it was such a surprise!
If I were to win the prize, first of all, I would love to be able to give a computer to my nephew. He is 16 and his family lives in a very rural, isolated area. They had a computer, but it was a very basic model and it never did work properly. A new HP computer would be really be a blessing for him! I also work at a college that assists the local adult literacy program. That program does wonderful work, but they are always short of funds and equipment. A new computer (or two!) would do wonders for them and allow them to do even more great work!

1. The best gift I ever received was a photo album from my friends.
2. It was special because of the time and effort they put into searching through our pictures and finding the best times we had. I will be able to look at the album years from now and remember all the great times we had.
3. I would share some of the computers with my parents because they are running on ancient technology and my brother who is going to college next year. The remaining computer and my old computer I would donate to a family friend who has fallen upon hard times due to being layed off at his job.

My best gift: My father’s unremitting belief in me, in my intelligence, and that I could do anything/be anything I wanted to.
Why was that so special: My dad was 41 when I was born in 1950, and he was of a generation and a culture (Italian-American) that certainly didn’t subscribe to or endorse women’s rights or equality of opportunity! In fact, his life, as well as my mom’s, was completely circumscribed by sex-role stereotypes. Yet somehow his powerful love for his daughters – there were six of us and I was the last – broke through all of that, and despite our very traditional family life (the two brothers took out the garbage, the six sisters did kitchen chores, etc), his belief in me and what I could do, communicated in so many ways from my earliest memories forward, was a major force in my life.
Sharing if I won: One laptop, probably the HDX, would go to my grandson, who is between high school and college this year. He would also receive the printer and software. The other laptop would go to his father, my adult son. The TouchSmart would be my gift to myself, but also put to good use because I am the volunteer website administrator for the Ronald McDonald House of Durham, NC. My current desktop would be given to a dear friend in need. I haven’t decided yet who would get the mini or the media extender.

1.The best gift I ever received was a desktop computer which I received 5 years ago to replace my sluggish Toshiba Laptop. Sadly it broke down and now I have to resort again to my trusty Toshiba Satellite.
2.The desktop was special because at that time my Aunty (from South Africa) sent me Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone for PC. Sadly I had no access to a computer to play it on and if I was lucky I went to a friends place and got to play it there. I always had to restart my game because I didn’t have a PC I knew I could play it on. This changed when I received this now out PC. This desktop also got me interested in the field of technology, and technology is now my primary interest along with gaming. (Although my Laptop is too slow to play many, or all modern games)
3.If I were to win I would give the prizes to my small family living here in New Zealand and South Africa and a good, good friend. The Touchsmart PC would go to my Mum to reward all her work raising me and my twin brother as a single parent. The HP Mini would go to my Aunty and Grandma in South Africa for all their help and advice, and it would allow them to contact us in New Zealand. I would give one notebook to my good friend whose computer recently broke down which he bought online, and it is now out of warranty. And lastly I would share the last laptop between me and my brother (we’ve been used to sharing for many years) and I’d be able to play some more modern games.

1) The best gifti ever recieved from someone else was a telescope from my parents.
2) It was special because looking back on it, that was the point where my world opened up to a whole new realm of ideas (sounds like I copied that from the Discovery Channel, but it’s true). Not only was astronomy involved in looking at the stars, but you got all geology of the different planets, photography, chemistry, mathmatics, even political and technological policy issues. By the time I was 13 I knew more about the world of science because of that telescope than any other kid at school.
3) I live in San Diego and see many military families, or just service members, walking about malls and downtown streets, shopping or window browsing. I think it’d be great to surprise them with the laptop and printer set while there out and about, it’s all about those random acts of kindness. I will probably keep the desktop (for photography), the mini (for college), and one other laptop (for sister). I would donate the software and videos to children at the San Diego Children’s hospital, and if they could make no use of the higher end software (assuming they have no teenage patients), I would bundle it with the military family’s gift.

1. The best gift I ever received from someone else, was a tape recorder with microphone when I was 8 years old.
2. What made it special was that “Santa”, aka my dad, left me a message on it. At the time I totally believed it was Santa. I can remember how excited I was. There is no better feeling than being a kid who believes in something magical. Now, as an adult, I think it is special because my dad made such a simple gift, a fantastic gift.
3. If I were to win I would share with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and one of the Target House apartment buildings in Memphis, TN. My family has personal experience with both of these and I know how much computer equipment would mean to them.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
A few years ago before we were married, my then boyfriend’s sister woke me up out of a dead sleep to go and feed the baby. Turns out my my husband ended up jumping out of a huge box and proposing to me at midnight on Christmas Eve. It wasn’t a fancy ring or anything but a lifetime of memories. Sounds cheesy, I know.
2. What made the gift special?
I get to spend the rest of my life with the father of my children, my best friend, and the love of my life!
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
There are two groups that I would like to share with. Both of my daughters have disabilities and/or delays and have received services and therapies free of charge from both the Elks Club Washington Therapy program as well as our local Early Intervention center. I would give portions to both groups.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My first PC from my parents.
2. What made the gift special?
I got it when I was about 10 years old. It served me very well and it was my first contact with this great technology. Since then I started to get interested in everything relating to technology.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I have a couple peoples who I would give some of the gifts to. The first one would be my good friend and neighbor. Saturday evening 22nth of November he suffered from a cerebral bleeding. When he was at a party he had a very bad headache. He called his parents to pick him up from the party. Back at their home his headaches got even worse. They immediately rushed him to the hospital. Luckily he survived. Later the doctor said that when he had arrived at the hospital just five minutes later it could’ve been fatal.
After a week of being â€locked-up’ in the hospital he was kind of getting crazy. Just imagine laying there all day having nothing to do. In the evening of the 26th of November he called his parents and begged to come to take him back home. He even threatened to hurt himself. After a talk with the doctor he got permission to go home and since then he is recovering much faster.
He’s studying to become a IT Teacher although he could use a new computer (2.5 year old PC right now). To make his Christmas a bit more fun I would want to give him the HDX 18, VideoStudio, Photosmart C6380 (He loves both filming and taking pictures so I guess he will be happy with both) and the Kung Fu Panda disk which he can watch on Christmas Eve with his friends and family (I hope he will invite me if I win the price and give him his presents
). I just hope he will be able to use them by Christmas because right now he can’t even look at a computer screen but that’s just a matter of time.
The HP Mini would go to my mom and the MediaSmart Connect to my dad. I would give it to them because they were always there throughout some hard times and I could always count on them. The other Kung Fu Panda DVD will probably go to the daughter of one of our friends.
I will be using the Pavilion dv4 to take with me to school every day because I’m studying IT and it would be great to have a laptop to do my work on. And the TouchSmart will probably be replacing my 4 year old desktop PC.

1. The best I’ve ever received was when I graduated from High School my mother presented me with me scrapbook she had been keeping since I was born. It had every little detail and picture imaginable. She handed it to me with tears in her eyes. That’s one gift I’ll never forget.
2. What made the gift so special was knowing how much work my mother had put into it. It showed what a mother’s unconditional love was all about. The time and task put forth to create the scrapbook STILL has me in awe.
3. If I win this contest I will donate everything but the HP Mini (I will keep for myself) to our Compu Center at college. The donated hardware will be used by hundreds of College students and we will ALL be grateful for your geneirosity. If I win I will also contact local news channels to record and evidence the donation and to give thanks to you and HP.

1) The best present I’ve received is a silver napkin ring.
2) This is the best because it is the only present I’ve ever received that the person actually made themself. More than this, it is something that my mother made. So it is not just ’stuff’. And while disposable goods wear out or become discarded, I’ll never part with this. It really was the most thoughtful gift anyone has given me.
3) I’ll be giving a computer each to my parents and a good friend, so they don’t become disenfranchised. And some of the kit, and probably another of the computers to either a local children’s care home, or homeless shelter (depends which will benefit best, and I need to speak with them about that).

Here’s my entry:
1. The best gift I’ve ever received was an old rusty meccano set from my father.
2. What made the gift so special was the fact that this meccano set was handed down to my father from my grandfather, now past away. With this set I started building structures, and I developped a passion for my current field of mechanical engineering.
3. If I win this prize, I will share all of it within my immediate family. As you can see from the pictures below, we have a lot of replacements to make yet funding has been withheld until further notice (NO CASH!) We are 6 in the family so everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) will go to good use. I’ll keep one of the notebooks for myself and share the rest! That’s what its all about.

1) The best present I’ve received was when I got my first computer at age 11. It was and Apple II, original in 1978 I believe. It had 16k of RAM and a sony cassette player for storage.
2) It was special because I used to have to drive an hour to the nearest computer store to play with computers because the guy at Radio Shack stopped letting me program on their TRS80 knowing I wasn’t going to buy anything. I came from a fairly poor family so my dad and I split the cost. I worked all sorts of odd jobs such as shoveling, cleaning small offices etc. Knowing I earned it made it very special
3) I’ll be donating everything to Sacred Heart School which is a non-profit catholic school that I volunteer for the tech. committee. The existing computers are slow and aren’t nearly enough. The teacher who make very little have been dying for a shared laptop as well.

When I turned 16, that morning I woke up to the complete collection of works by Dostoevsky. My parents gave me this gift. I also got some clothing but that wasn’t so special.
2. What made the gift special?
I was excited that I could read it all and that my parents had noticed what I really liked.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I will use the gift to support my small business and my online community.

Hey,
The best gift I had ever got was this flyer of Gap with a picture of me in it back when I was a baby.
I love this gift with all my heart because I asked my parents where the flyer was and they spent over a month looking for it. I think it was the greatest present I had ever gotten because it was literally priceless. This a gift that could not be bought and it was one of the greatest moments in my life. It’s a gift that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
If I did win the giveaway, I would donate a majority of it to a refugee house called the Sojourn House. I think it is a great organization that helps women and men from other countries that have suffered from political problems, abuse, and other problems. I would also send my older brother, in Egypt, a laptop because he has just become a pilot and I would love to surprise and congratulate him.

3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
The best gift I have received from someone else was last year when my brother-in-law used his frequent flyer miles to purchase a ticket so I could visit my daughter and her family.
2. What made the gift special?
It had been over three years since my daughter and her family had been relocated by her employer. Any parent or grandparent knows what it is like to go three years without a hug. The little ones grow so quickly and there is nothing like spending time with them.
The specialness of the gift went beyond the thrill of spending time with my granddaughters and included the unselfishness of my brother-in-law using his miles for me.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Part of the package would be shared with my daughter’s family. Because my daughter has to take frequent business trips, having the HP Mini to take with her will make it easier to stay in contact with her family while traveling. The computer my granddaughter was using broke so having a replacement would certainly help her in school.
I would also like to share a portion of the prize package with the Rochester School for the Deaf http://www.rsdeaf.org . The school has been in existence since the late 1800’s and has given so much to families with hearing impaired children (from birth through school) that I would like to give back to them.

The best gift I ever received from someone was the gift of knowledge from my parents, teachers, and my siblings.
2. What made the gift special?
This gift was special because I received it from everyone and I will be learning my whole life.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
If I win, I will donate the netbook to the Oakland Children’s hospital and my current PC will go to charity. I already have a working printer so I’ll donate the new printer to charity as well. The Kung Fu Panda DVD will be donated to my local library. The Microsoft Office 2007 software will go to a college student that needs it since I already have Microsoft Office 2007 software. I will help geeks by writing a video review of each notebook and posting it in the Notebooks.com forums (the Corel software I win will be used for editting the videos). The Touchsmart PC will be used as a family computer, the HP HDX will go to me for my college assignments, the other HP laptop will go to my sister for her college work, and the HP Mini will go to my older sister for her college work (she travels alot and works full time).

1: Favorite Gift
My favorite gift of all time and the one that made me happy the most was this PC I’m using right now. Ever since around â€05, I’ve been collecting money to be able to afford the â€ultimate PC’ so to speak.. at that time I thought I’d simply be upgrading my existing PC. I had enough money to get the nVidia 8800 GTX GPU and a copy of Windows Vista, only to discover soonafter that the GPU requires a PCI-e and much more power that my PSU had. Since that was a few weeks before my birthday, my father surprised me by actually â€complementing’ the rest of the PC so that it’d work with what I had purchased earlier.
Since I have a PC which I am satisfied with, I will be giving one away to organizations and another as a â€thank you’ for my parents.

The nest gift I ever received was a briefcase from my friend Stephanie. It was special because we had never really exchanged presents before and so it was a surprise. I have never (at that time) heard of Lands End (the brand of the briefcase) and I used the heck out of it. It was a gift that just kept giving. If I were to win, I will likely be sharing part of this wonderful prize package with her.

The best gift I’ve ever received was a surprise grass! We live in Florida and it is really hard to grow grass and have a nice lawn. We bought our first house and the previous owner had given up on grass and had filled the entire front and back yards with red mulch! After a year, most of the mulch had been washed or blown away and we were left with a patchwork of sand and weeds for a lawn. Our family went on vacation 2 summers ago and when we arrived home from the airport at 10pm we knew something was different. Even at night, the freshly laid sod was noticeable. We jumped out of the car and made “grass angels” on our new lawn! That was such a great gift because of the enormous amount of work it took and because of the number of friends involved to make it happen.
If I were to win the HP Magic Giveaway prize package, I am friends with two families serving as missionaries in Africa (Mozambique and Malawi) who would be speechless to receive new computers to assist with running their ministries and keeping in touch with friends and family back in the States. I also have 4 children (a college Sophomore, a High School Junior, a High School Freshman and a 7th grader) who would put whatever computers remain to good use for years to come!

2. What made the gift special?
This gift was special because my daughter gave it to me and said “Daddy, here’s a gift you won’t return.”
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would give part of the prize to The Foundation for Blind Children. http://www.seeitourway.org/ I work with these people a great deal. I know that they can use any donation.

Best gift ever:
1. I really don’t know, I haven’t really gotten anything that was amazing, but my uncle did give me a broken DLP TV, that was pretty awesome.
2. I got to take it apart, and I fixed it with windex and a paper towel (as opposed to paying sharp $1200 for the part that was malfunctioning and others that weren’t). I wrote an instructable about it: http://www.instructables.com/i...../?ALLSTEPS
3. I would share the prize with my sister, my uncle, and my mom. My uncle could use a new laptop because he is very hard on laptops and his is old. My mom need a laptop because she was laid off today and the only laptop she had was owned by the company, so she doesn’t have one right now. My sister is in college and could use the printer.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
My best gift I had ever received was my Dell XPS laptop from my dad.
2. What made the gift special?
My laptop was a special gift because my dad made a big effort to buy me this computer because he knew that the laptop was going to help in the future with my career in the university. This made me to think in giving the HP Pavilion dv4 series Entertainment Notebook PC (with Windows Live) to a friend that I had seen in the same situation, his parents can´t afford a computer to him for the university and what better than I can give to him this computer if I win.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
With all this stuff I would help to an institution and to a person. The HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC is going to be destined to the institution, where they take care the children with limited resources, where they could give several uses to this laptop. One of them is to be able to take the administrative control since they lack a computer and this could facilitate this control. Also I will give to them the DVD’s so the children can enjoy the movie. The Pavilion dv4 series Entertainment Notebook PC (with Windows Live) is going to be destined to a friend that I had seen that his parents had sacrificed too much to be able to pay the university to him but they cannot provide him with a computer and with a computer he can grow more academically as professionally. The HP Mini 1000 (with XP) probably I’m giving to give it to one of my parents because they don’t have a computer to take to their work. I’m not who is giving all this stuff, just a bearer of the kindness of the company HP and Microsoft that have such a great heart to help several human beings who lack of computers. I do not deserve the merit, if not of the company that is giving it to me.
Here’s my twitter: http://twitter.com/yeims007
And my current laptop in my personal blog: http://altiempotec.blogspot.co.....aptop.html
Hope I win, I’m praying ďŠ to win and to make happy a lot of people with this stuff!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
It wasn’t material but advise given to me by my grandfather. Pick your battles. Those words work in a number of situations.
2. What made the gift special? It is the gift that keeps on giving, as I use it or think about it every single day. I always pause and ask myself is this a battle worth fighting? and then silently say to myself thank you grandpa.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? My best friend Joe who told me about this contest. Joe you rock! I wouldn’t be greedy, I would share with my entire family.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else?
I would say a dollhouse I got from my grandmother when I was six years old. It’s huge…I still have it, it’s one of my keepsakes…really unique.
2. What made the gift special? Well it is like 3ft tall and 4ft wide…so it stands out of course…but I dunno, I just remember how special that Christmas was for me. Everytime I look at it, it reminds me of that time.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Well I want the gaming laptop for myself. But as for the other prizes. I’d give the other laptop to my sister who just recently asked me to buy her a computer. Her son (my nephew) who is 5 would of course get the Kung Fu Panda. My best friend (who was laid off) who has been talking about having a netbook for the better part of a year would get the Mini along with the printer and cartridge, be a nice gift for her. My mother who has a Compaq from I want to say eight years ago…with the specs of: 10GB HD, 64MB RAM, basically the computer’s only function is to gather dust at this point because it is SO SLOW! she would of course get the desktop with the cool touch screen…quite a leap for her. I guess I’d keep the media center cause I dunno who else I’d give that to who would know how to use it. I already have MSOffice2007 on my computer, so I’d simply install it on my mom’s new desktop, my sister’s new laptop and my best friend’s new netbook, for them.

a) Best gift I ever received – Photo album from my daughter that covered every year of my kids lives (20 years).
b) It was special because of the effort that she put into it, the memories, and the personal touch. It was a ‘this is your life’ type of book, and it made me cry.
c) I would keep a laptop, give a computer to each of my kids, and donate the software to my public library. Most of the equipment would be given away.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
The best gift I ever received from someone else was a barbecue cooking course from my girlfriend. It was the most incredibly fun and social day out and I learned how to cook true masterpieces at barbecues and family get togethers. I am not famous for my roasts and the perfect steak!
2. What made the gift special?
What made it special was that I leaned so much from such simple tips and it has enabled me to cook the best food for my friends and family. My girlfriend Simone was able to come with me and we met some really cool people and had a great time.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would definitely have to share a portion of this prize with my technophobic parents. I think they would find the HP touchsmart computer to be extremely easy to use and would bridge several technology hurdles they experience when using computers. The user interface and the way you interact with the PC is simply revolutionary, and I think they’d find it that way too.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
When I was about to enter college in 1988, friends of my family bought me a 2400 baud modem.
2. What made the gift special?
Besides the fact it was the fastest telecommunications device that most people could get their hands on, these family friends were already in their mid-sixties. They didn’t know what the modem did – just that in my hands it would let me further/better explore my potential. I’ve never forgotten what they’ve done for me.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
If I won, I would give my wife the TouchSmart (she’s never had a new PC), give one of the notebooks to my friend Tim (he helped me get my new job and he’s looking for a new PC), I would keep one of the notebooks and the AIO for myself to better address my projects, then refurbish and donate most of my old equipment (~ 6 desktops/laptops and 2 AIO’s).
Next, complete the following tasks and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.
- Twitter the following and include a link proving that you did it:

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
To tell the truth, i never received any gift before. Well i might count my last birthday celebration as a gift since it was my last one i had 8 years ago when I was 10. After that, my birthday were never mention again. My ethnicity is Asian so my family do not celebrate Christmas so there will be no gifts passing around.
2. What made the gift special?
It was my last birthday celebration unless someone is willing to celebrate my birthday in future ones.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I would share to anyone who haven’t has a person that celebrated their birthday in the past years. I would also share to people around the world were poverty affects them. Many of those people have no education. I hope these gifts will help them learn and bring entertainment to their lives. Give them a little magic into them and bring a smile out of them.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
That would be the dragon statue that I got from my best pal and his girlfriend at my birthday. I can not forget how happy I was when I saw my pal appear out of nowhere with a gift package in his hands.
2. What made the gift special?
While everyone else forgot that it was my birthday, my best friend had not. He even got me a present, making me forever remember that day.

1 & 2 Best gift I ever received was a CD from my then-boyfriend 15 years ago. The CD was from my favorite band since I was 12 (I was 21 when he gave it to me), but he didn’t know at the time I liked them – he just thought I might dig the music. It was one of those, “this is My People” moments. And he is. And I am lucky.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
This prize package is substantial – when I read the list of everything it included, I almost want to say YOU get a laptop and YOU get a laptop and YOU get a laptop… but um. I’m not Oprah, so my wishlist for giving is as follows:
One laptop for my folks. Their machine is junk – virus ridden, slow, horrible. They deserve better. It would be nice, for once, to do something for them.
One laptop (as well as the printer and video software) for the satellite office in the small town where I live of my foster family agency. When I was in continuing ed training, I noticed the computer in front was running Windows ME. Who runs ME? They do. They do Important Work. They need better equipment, but they’re non-profit… and a sagging (dragging half-dead) economy only means they have at least, if not more workload.
One laptop each for my soon-to-be adopted daughter’s brother and sister. They’re each in a separate foster home in long term foster care. Without sharing too much of their story – they are forgotten children that need consistent love and support. Regardless of the equipment, my husband and I are striving to create the backbone of a long-lasting relationship between our daughter and the both of them. They’re teenagers who have been bumped around from group homes to foster homes. Access to computers for schoolwork is inconsistent, and how great would it be for them to have the tools that belong to them to work toward getting ahead. They’re both bright and forward-thinking. They just lack consistent structure, support, and respect as individuals.

Hmm… the best gift ever received? That’s a tough one! *One* of the best was the year my Dad gave my sister & I front-row seats to the Phantom of the Opera show the first year it came through Denver. I was in high school and my big sister was in college. We’d read the book and really wanted to go to the show, but being kids we of course had no money. For my frugal Dad, getting him to buy even the balcony seats was a long shot. So when we opened up the box and discovered FRONT ROW seats – wow. That took us both by surprise and we knew how much he loved us! We had a great time BTW.
Now, for this giveaway… I’m very excited to bring joy to multiple people’s lives for the holiday this year. I would keep one of the laptops for myself to use for my Virtual Assistant business as my current one has a severely cracked screen and will soon be unusable! Every penny right now goes to paying bills so I can’t fix it right now. My computer: http://www.flickr.com/photos/5.....099788442/
My computer with me in it (sorry for the poor one here – taken with camera phone): http://www.flickr.com/photos/5.....099801330/
The other computers I am super excited to give away! As I pondered who they would go to, it came to me that it would make sense to give them to aspiring Virtual Assistants – especially those who are financially struggling and can’t afford to buy the computer that is so integral to this type of work. To choose these people, I will reach out to the VA organizations I volunteer for and ask for nominations. I will give the computers to aspiring VAs (small business owners) who volunteer for these professional organizations selflessly and give of themselves without expectation of reward or thanks. I have met so many Virtual Assistants who have awesome potential and are doing everything right to grow their business – they just don’t have adequate tools to get them to the ultimate level they are capable of. Making a small difference in several people’s lives would be such a great Christmas present to myself. When you give, you get in so many intangible ways! Many thanks to HP and all the bloggers for being so generous!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else. – My two daughters.
2. What made the gift special? Being able to someone to share your life with is a tremendous feeling. One very difficult to describe. My wife played an incredible role through it all.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? Well, of course both girls would want to take something back to school with them. But I am leaning toward a donation for the local Habitat for Humanity chapter. They have built about 10 houses in the area and are always short of resources to track expenses and family contributions.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
That’s easy. 15 years ago, my husband proposed to me with a $99 pawn shop diamond “fleck” ring. It was beautiful.
2. What made the gift special?
Besides the obvious, I knew he could not afford anything and I had told him, in the past that I didn’t want a solitaire, as I was in nursing school and was afraid to tear my gloves. So, he did good. He proposed after spending several days with my family as we all dealt with the loss of my youngest sister. He saw my entire family at our absolute worst and didn’t flinch as he put on my ring, nor has he in the 15 years since.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
I have a girlfriend with 2 autistic children. Even though they are young, they really need to have their own computer. So I would give one to mom and let her computer become one of the boys. I may give the netbook to her husband so they don’t have to share everything. My husband and I are wireless gadget freaks, we would probably keep the printer. One of the computers will replace the computer I use to run the media at church. I do this for free and anything to make it easier would be wonderful. The computer I use there now barely meets the standards of the software the church bought for music lyrics and Bible verse projections; so it tends to freeze up when videos are played. As for the rest of the stuff, we will probably keep and give our laptops away.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
A blown up and laminated picture of my husband holding our son when he was just 3 days old. (Check out the picture here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/c.....099068641/)
2. What made the gift special?
The fact that my husband knew exactly what picture to choose. The fact that he went out of his way to get it laminated and not just put in any old frame. The fact that, 3 years later, I can be immediately transported to that exact point in time with just a glance up at that picture. It’s truly a special moment frozen in time… one I’ll never forget. My husband knew how much I would appreciate having a constant visual reminder of that amazing newborn phase that has just whizzed by.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
This is SUCH an awesome question… Really makes me search my heart. In fact, I would request you to be part of the ‘nomination committee.’ I will donate to groups nearest and dearest to my heart: needy homeschooling families, budding entrepreneurs who need a little support, and young photography enthusiasts.

Hi!
1. Me winning a Philips 755 touch-screen phone from a newspaper.
2. It was special because…. it was my first phone. My father had told me to enter it and so I entered it on his advice. It was one of the best, and one of my first gifts. I value it more then any of the phone in the market.
3. I would share it with my family and close friends. The HP Mini 1000 would goto my Father for being all through with me. He always wanted to use a lappy in his life. The HP HDX 18 would goto my friends Chanyao and Anuj for being there always with me. The printer would be shared among all my friends. The HP Touchsmart would be used by me as you will soon see I don’t have a very nice PC. The other laptop would goto my sister for always being for me and it could be a nice birthday gift for her (Her birthday is on December 12).
I know my entry is not a sobby entry like other entries. But I hope I win.

Here is my current desktop layout: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lodschmod/3100913818/ I didn’t include the tower in the picture because including the floor would have made tge photo outright scary
Yaaay mess! hahaha.
Now for the questions.
It’s shaped so much of who I am. It got me into computer dolls, which got me into art as a more general thing–although I haven’t drawn much in the past few months, I still consider it an integral part of me. It’s made me an artist! XD But it’s also done more than that. Without that tablet, computer would have been for homework, and for internet. I think if I hadn’t gotten that tablet, I’d be yet another one of those “standard teen internet users” (yes, yes, at 19 I am still a teen, shh!) who chats lyk dis and spends her life on facebook. … ok, so maybe I do spend my life on facebook. But I also do more! I love drawing on the computer as much as on paper, and I love the community it’s associated with and the inspiration you can find online. And because I’m not a gamer, and before college I wasn’t into programming, art is what got me to be…a geek.
I made my first website at 12 so I could put my little computer dolls on the web! Hehe. And if you’ll check out the lower left corner of my desktop picture, you’ll see that very same tablet, still goign strong despite being used as a table instead of a tablet XDD Intuos 2s rock! (seriously. 7 years in my hands, + who knows how many in my dad’s office before that getting use for someone’s job…).
1. The best gift I have ever received from someone else would have to be the graphic tablet I got from my dad. I don’t think it was given for a birthday or anything like that–I somehow acquired it from him
2. What made the gift special… um… I think I already answered that. Sorry, hope combined answers are acceptable
3. Well, I guess I’d have to send off one of the laptops to my sister, who has apparently been whining about wanting one
I also am quite pleased with my desktop right now (I’m so in this just for the mini and for a high-qual laptop, haha), so I’d probably give it away to someone in my family–a studio only needs so many desktop computers! haha!
Thanks for the many contests, gear diary. I love winning your stuff
(but man! how hard must it be having all that and knowing you can’t even try to win it! sigh! I feel bad for you guys.)

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
I think the best gifts are the ones that you give to someone else. I think the best gifts I have received are the unexpected ones. (surprises)
2. What made the gift special?
There is nothing like the feeling you get by giving an unexpected surprise. It is the best!!!
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
There is no question that I would share it with my wife. She is the hardest working person I know and I am very lucky to have her.

Best gift?
My current mobile phone received from an uncle.
Why special?
Because I could have never afford such a phone (even now I can’t upgrade that 4-year old phone!)
Share?
I’ll be willing to share it with needy students at my Uni.
