[Editors note: People, please read! This is not the official Gear Diary contest thread; this is the synopsis of contest entry sites that I do daily. If you post your entry here, it will not be considered. Entries belong here.]
Today’s HP Magic Giveaway sites are Geeks to Go!, Gear Diary, and Geeks!. Bear in mind that each site will have their own requirements for the giveaway, and they may also have their own rules that will not apply on other sites.
Here’s a quick synopsis of today’s giveaway sites’ details…
The winner will be drawn from qualified comments posted between December 04, 2008, and December 10, 2008 12PM (noon) CST. Our announcement will be posted shortly after noon (CST) on December 10, 2008 (subscribe to our RSS feed). The winner will also be notified via the email address they used to comment. If 24 hours goes by without a reply, a new winner will be chosen.
Your reply in this thread’s comments section will be your entry, and the winner will be chosen at random from entrants who have answered the questions and fulfilled the tasks we set forth. For the sake of simplicity when judging, please put all of the requirements together in ONE entry / comment.
Ready? Let’s get started.
First, you must register so that you can leave a comment on this site. If this is the first comment you have ever left, it will be moderated. Don’t freak out if it doesn’t post right away, and don’t leave a second comment; I will approve your entry / comment ASAP.
In ONE comment, you must answer these three questions, and post links to prove that you have fulfilled the two required tasks:
1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
2. What made the gift special?
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Next, complete the following tasks and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.
- Twitter the following and include a link proving that you did it:
“I promise that I will make a difference in someone’s life if I win: http://tinyurl.com/6j2yml”
- Post a picture of your current desktop or laptop on Flickr (or your personal blog), and include a link back to that picture in your comment / entry. You do not need to be in the photo, but I’ll be even more impressed with your entry if you are.
That’s all there is to it.
Read the rest of Geeks! rules and enter, here.
As always, if you enter on another site we would appreciate you letting them know that we sent you. We would also love to hear back if you are the winner; we love “happy ending” stories! ![]()

1. The best gift I received was a $50 gift certificate for Fry’s Electronics.
2. The gift was special to me because the person who gave me the gift actually thought of me as a computer geek and didn’t give me something I may not like or even have use for.
3. I would give one computer to my mom, another to my close friend, and the other prizes I would give to my college, other friends, or an organization that could benefit from it.

1. The best gift I ever received was a camera from my grandma.
2. This started my love of photography that I have now. I hardly ever leave home without my camera, and am always looking for something interesting to shoot. I especially love capturing life in cities.
3. I would be sharing this package with a local charity or my church. I would keep the DV4 for me since my 4 year old Dell (see Flick photo) needs replacing. I might also keep the HDX or Touchsmart since my mom says the family needs a computer for us to all share. The printer, Mini 1000, Media Server, and DVDs would all go to charity or give to my church which in the past has given out items to needy families.

THe best gift I ever got was the thing I’m using right now, an Apple Macbook! My parents knew I wanted an iPhone, but they could never afford the plans for it. I was so disappointed, but then I opened my gift, and there it was! A brand new Macbook. What made it so special was that they didn’t have a lot of money, and I was determined to get one, but they used up a lot of money and finally bought it. I would give some of these computers to my parents to make them feel like I gave something back.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
My teacher getting me a job at my high school’s tech office
2. What made the gift special?
This allowed me to fully pursue my dream of working in the IT field and has gotten me on the fast track to working as a professional in the computer field
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
My Dad, he uses a 5 year old laptop right now that doesn’t even have a wireless card working and has to remote desktop to his work computer to pay his bills and get his work done. With a new laptop he could do this faster and have more time to do other stuff. He’s a small business owner and can’t afford to buy a new laptop. I would give another laptop to a friend of mine who can’t afford a computer. His family opened up a business that didn’t succeed and he can’t afford a laptop for school.

the best gift I have received is my current bike. Got it a couple years ago and ride it everyday in the summer, spring, fall and to my friends houses in the winter.
The gift was special because all throughout my life I got hammy-downs and never had anything new. Then for my birthday they got me a brand new bike that was well worth its money.
I would share the prize with my family.
The mini would go to my younger sister. One of the laptops to my brother who is in his last year at college and will be out of school next year. He has been looking around for laptops and he needss a good one so it’s going to cost him a load of his money. It would be a perfect gift. The other laptop would go to my other brother. He is going to enroll in a graphics design course next year in college and he needs a laptop for it. He only works part time so doesn’t make a lot of money to buy his own. On top of the laptop he is saving to go into res.

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
In 2007 my brother-in-law used his frequent flyer miles to get me a round-trip ticket to Minnesota.
2. What made the gift special?
I had not seen my daughter, her husband and my granddaughters since she was relocated to MN. At that time is had been over 3 years.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win?
Part of the package would be shared with my daughter’s family. My son-in-law’s 5 brothers and 1 sister are chipping in to pay the costs so my daughter and family can come home for Christmas this year. It will be their first trip home. Because my daughter has to take frequent business trips, having the HP Mini to take with her will make it easier to stay in contact with her family while traveling. The computer my 15 year old granddaughter was using broke so having a replacement would certainly help her in school.
Since our TV doesn’t have a digital converter, it will be unusable come February when the Congressional mandated change goes into effect. So, the touch smart and receiver would certainly come in handy.
The Rochester School for the Deaf would greatly benefit from the printer and some other extras.
(Pay it Forward: “3 people helped each day, “paid forward” by each person helps 4.7M people in two weeks.”)

The best gift I received was from my parents i.e. they let me come to the States for my education. This was clearly special because they trusted me & knew that I would not forget all I had been taught.I would share the largesse with several people:
Athens Area Homeless shelter (wireless printer, kungfu panda dvds and photo pack)
UGA Center for Teaching and Learning (touchsmart pc and corel software)
my parents in Nigeria- dv4 with Office 2007 licenses
Father-in-law – HP mini to get him connected.
Sister-in-law (teacher & new mom) – Windows Live subscriptions to help her with classrooom teaching.
Myself & husband – HDX laptop & mediasmart for personal and work use.
I’m not afraid to proclaim that I will do the above if I win.
I’ve tweeted it here: http://twitter.com/janetalkste.....1039429722 and here’s picture of my current laptop (which I’m rather fond of):

1. What is the best gift you have ever received from someone else.
It’s hard to remember gifts that I’ve gotten but I remember a card that my girlfriend made for me. It has a collage of photos of us together and writing from her on the back.
2. What made the gift special?
It was special because she took her time to make it. Anyone can buy someone else a present but it take some effort to make something meaningful. I don’t ever ask for stuff during the holidays or anything but I’m really happy about the card she made me. I also got some clothes but they didn’t mean nearly as much.
3. Who would you share a portion of this prize package with, if you were to win? I would share the touchsmart with my brother since we share our room and i will probably give my gf one of the laptops. what am i going to do with 3 of them?! besides, no one else in my family knows how to use a computer except me and my brother. I also plan on giving the dvds to my baby niece and nephew. they love watching cartoons.
