According to web site Torrentfreak, the Electronic Arts game Spore was the most torrented (downloaded via file sharing which is widely associated with pirating) game with an estimated 1.7 million downloads. This is probably due to the large download protest over, ironically, the DRM features within Spore that initially limited the number of times the game could be reinstalled. It’s not hard to see why Electronic Arts would want some protection from piracy. Their 2004 game release “The Sims 2″ is the second most downloaded game with over 1.1 million downloads. That’s a serious amount of lost revenue!

Here’s the most torrented 2008 game list:

1. Spore (1,700,000)
2. The Sims 2 (1,150,000)
3. Assassins Creed (1,070,000)
4. Crysis (940,000)
5. Command & Conquer 3 (860,000)
6. Call of Duty 4 (830,000)
7. GTA San Andreas (740,000)
8. Fallout 3 (645,000)
9. Far Cry 2 (585,000)
10. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (470,000)
