Those of you that know me well, know that I have an insatiable thirst for Diet Coke; I generally buy it in cans, and I go through quite a few of them…to put it mildly. My solution has been to recycle, but some enterprising folks have come up with a better and creative option: turn those loose cans into the mother of all redneck Christmas trees.
While I don’t think that I will be creating one of my own this year (or likely ever), I thought it would be fun to show you the Mountain Dew Christmas tree that I discovered on Make…
The Mountain Dew Christmas tree site includes a lovely video of the tree – complete with glowing two-liter plastic bottle “angel”.
How many cans does it take to create one? Over 400…and let’s just say that I am confident that gathering them wouldn’t be a problem at my house. Of course a Diet Coke tree would be silver and red; still quite festive.
If you are intrigued but totally pressed for time, then there is always the Charlie Brown version…

Cristoph Büchel’s beer can Christmas tree
Jeff Foxworthy would approve.

Awesome! I could also build one of these out of Diet Pepsi in about 4 days. Wish I were lying.

I’m right there with you, and I wish I were lying, too.

Wow, that really is awesome! Think about it… If you drink “regular” DC, you’d have a nice silver tree w/ red. If you wanted to add some green to it, just drink DC w/ Lime. Me, I’m a CFDC (Caffeine-free Diet Coke) drinker so my tree would end up looking like it’d been infested w/ bark beetles. Not a pretty sight.

…And it was Leroy the Redneck Reindeer, hooked to the front of the sleigh
deliverin’ toys to all the good ol’ boys and girls along the way,
He’s just a down home party ani-mule, two-steppin’ across the sky
he mixed Jingle Bells with a rebel yell and made history that night..!
God, I love Joe Diffe… [sniff !]

This is almost as good as the ‘redneck wedding cake’. (Big stack of Twinkies with the plastic bride and groom dolls at the top.)
