On the HTC S740 the 1000mah battery lasts 20hours with light usage, on my iPhone Battery lasted up to days with light usage.
When it comes to speaker quality, both the earspeaker and outside speaker are horrible. The dynamic range is aweful and there is a lot of crackling when listening to voices, no matter what volume level the phone is set to. I never ever used a mobile or DECT phone with such a outstandingly bad speaker quality. My old Sony Ericsson K850i was lightyears ahead in this repect. THE iPhone was whole galaxys ahead when it comes to speaker quality. It's an iPod with advanced sonic processors. I seriously doubt any HTC can live up to the IPods SQ.

Hi, I also had the iPhone 3GS and now have the HTC S740. This is likely the case with the G1 as well so the charger will likely stay at home.

I always have a miniB in the bag….never know when you’ll need it. I needed a miniUSB cable, and all I had was the S740's, which would work with the S740, but not with the camera I needed to transfer from. People who only want to carry one cable will need to make sure that they are carrying the right one. :-)

Ha! I have never used "standard" device, they always lacked something compared to "professional" devices. The S740 looks great and I guess it is an excellent device, but I don't think I could downgrade from my Diamond and it's VGA screen to qVGA.
But on the other hand it could be a great device for my wife.

You can use any mini USB cable to charge/sync HTC devices with ExtUSB, so I’m not sure why would that be a problem.

I have never used “standard” device, they always lacked something compared to “professional” devices.
