Toshiba has developed a 512 GB SSD (solid state drive). These tiny drives are typically used in notebooks, gaming computers and home entertainment systems. Specs on this drive: 3GB/s SATA with maximum read speed of 240 Mb/s. Expect to see production ramped up in the second quarter of 2009. No word on pricing or which devices may first incorporate this SSD drive. By comparison the Apple MacBook Air with SSD has a current maximum capacity of 128 GB.

If manufacturer continue to build higher and higher capacities in HD an SSD, are taking the risk of a higher price than the costumers are ready to pay, because actual applications does not needs. Now with world recession and US economy in crisis, how many buyers are in possition to bay a $4,000 laptop with $512 GB SSD, that can do the same work that a $1,000 one? Maybe 2010 when with high definition movies and tv and talking interface will be necesary to go up to 500 MB/seg Read and Write data, but not even so will necesary the recession is gone and the power of buyer comeback.
What happend with HDTV and Blue Ray format sells?
