Hopefully this multi-player chess game for the iPhone will be just the tip of the iceberg with respect to future games that allow you to challenge other users via Wi-Fi or 3G. Dan (whatsoniphone) and Patrick (justanotheriphoneblog) have a dual review of Chess With Friends that highlights the application and their thoughts. To date I’ve only attempted multi-player Scrabble with mixed results (lots of crashes when I tried about a month ago). Hopefully this new chess app will result in many more multi-player games for the iPhone.

I suspect that it is just the tip of the iceberg. Some of the new EA titles, like Monopoly, for instance, offer over-the-air gameplay, so I’m sure there’s more to come.
