Just in time for Santa’s big night, the Gear Diary team has gotten together and shared our favorite Holiday Music Favorites. Just so we don’t leave anyone out, this is for all winter holidays the team celebrates, which includes Hanukkah.
The list is after the jump!
Joel McLaughlin
1. Santa Claus and His Old Lady – Cheech and Chong (funny crap! Dr. Demento is awesome as it’s his Christmas CD this is on).
In High School, my dad got this Dr. Demento Tape and once CD’s hit I grabbed the CD that had this track on it. Why is it my top one? The Christmas we bought this tape, Mom, Dad and my Brother and I rode EVERYWHERE listening to it and cracked up each time this one and others in the tape came up. This is a memory I have as one of my best Christmas’s ever.
2. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey
Yeah you can take or leave her, but I like this song and every time it comes on I get the image of shoppers rushing through a store on Black Friday. Maybe it’s the up beat tempo it has? Not sure…
3. Mary Did you Know – Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd
Now we get to the reason for the season. I can just imagine Gabriel singing this to Mary instead of how it actually went down in the Bible. Kenny and Wynonna just do a beautiful job on this song. It’s not Christmas unless I hear this song at least once.
Doug Goldring
The dance song from Charlie Brown’s Christmas, titled Christmas is Coming.
That and the Muppets singing 12 days of Christmas with John Denver.
2. Leroy the Redneck Reindeer – Joe Diffe (funnier than…”stuff!” (rephrased due to Judie’s recent “Clean e-Mail Act of 2008…
))
3. Meli Kalliki Maka – Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters (It’s Hawaii’s way to say, Merry Christmas,” to you!)
4. Baby, its Cold Outside – Dinah Shore version (Have you BEEN to Chicago lately??)
David Goodspeed
David’s favorites are Happy Xmas(War is Over) by John Lennon and adds a vote for Grandma got Run Over by a Reindeer!
Judie Lipsett
OH! My three favorite holiday songs -
Merry Christmas from the Family – Robert Earl Keen
Writer’s Note: Found out that this version was sung by the Vienna Boys Choir.
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – U2
“Grown Up Christmas List” - There are many versions, but I like the version by Amy Grant. It’s a heartfelt break from all of the crass commercialism…
“So here’s my lifelong wish
My grown-up Christmas list
Not for myself, but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart….”
